Who Are We? Phoenix Bay school is a special, independent school, committed to helping young people who are struggling to successfully flourish in mainstream education. We are dedicated to creating opportunities that allow students to thrive beyond the classroom and into everyday life. Using a positive, therapeutic approach to learning, Phoenix Bay School specialises in areas such as trauma and abuse survival, negative behaviour patterns, helping students to overcome barriers to their learning and to guide them to achieve their true potential.
What We Do We believe in a tailored approach to education, that recognises and celebrates every student’s passion and interest. Small class sizes and a high staff-to- student ratio ensures that individuality is at the heart of everything we do. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their education with guidance to identify and develop their talents and skills. Phoenix Bay school offers exciting and engaging pathways with an alternative educational approach based on the young person’s needs, together with vocational routes to ensure our student’s feel inspired and motivated to invest in their individual futures. We want to give students a sense of autonomy which allows them to have a voice, to feel safe and to thrive within their educational setting. Working with dedicated and specially trained members of staff teachers, mentors, and pastoral support, encourages students to form differing and healthy relationships, helping guide our students through to the end of and beyond their educational journey.
Our Curriculum Phoenix Bay school offer an innovative curriculum to inspire and empower all our students. Providing individual pathways with an alternative educational approach based on the young person’s needs, together with vocational routes to ensure our student’s feel inspired and motivated to invest in their individual futures. Our curriculum design ensures that the needs of individual and small groups of students can be met by responsive, quality first teaching, supported by targeted academic and pastoral interventions to ensuring our students make progress, positive change, and achieve regardless of their start point.
Our Curriculum Our timetable is divided into six areas: CORE SUBJECT TOPIC READING (HALF TERM THEME) LEARNING RETRIEVAL STAND ALONE SEMH AND LESSON REFLECTION (PE)
INTERVENTIONS POSITIVE ART Every class at Phoenix Bay will have an allocated RELATIONSHIPS Well Being Mentor, who depending on the requirements of the individual, will deliver tailored therapeutic pastoral interventions such as: Positive Behaviour POSITIVE FOREST THERA - PLAY ANIMAL MENTORING Management BEHAVIOUR SCHOOL RESILIENCE EMOTIONAL COUNSELLING MUSIC LITERACY
