Summer Enrichment Programs July 5 - 29, 2022 Central Elementary School (Grades K-3) Wilmette Junior High School (Grades 4-7) O N L INE R E G I S T R A T I O N A ND PAYMENT Payment will be processed through RevTrak-- linked on our SEP website. A $5 fee will be assessed for a course change requested by a parent after registration has been processed. REGISTER Each class is 50-minutes long Classes begin at 8:30 at Central School (K-3) Classes begin at 8:40 at Wilmette Junior High School (4-7) Registration opens March 1, 2022 and closes April 1, 2022 Late registrations for available seats will be accepted between April 2, 2022 - May 1, 2022 with a $9 late fee per class. If space is available after the session has begun, late registrations will be accepted on July 6 and July 7 at each school site. A $9 late registration fee per class will be charged. Summer Enrichment Programs D I S TRI C T 3 9 S T U D E N T TRANSPORTATION Bus service to Central School and Wilmette Junior High School within District 39 boundaries will be provided to children for a $140 fee, if sufficient requests are received. The schedule and routes will be announced prior to the opening of school. Please complete the transportation portion of your registration form to apply. No additional stops will be added to the bus routes after May 1, 2022. Children registering after this date will be accommodated on existing routes. Busing is available before period 1 and after period 3 at each school site. Transportation will not run between periods. T R A NSP O R T A T I O N D37 AVOCA Avoca School District will provide bus transportation to Central School and Wilmette Junior High School for District 37 students. Bus transportation from a route within the District 37 boundaries to the Summer Enrichment Programs will be available for a $140 transportation fee. Busing is available before period 1 and after period 3 at each school site. Transportation will not run between periods. L I N K-U P S P R O G R A M S WILMETTE PARK DISTRICT Bus service from Central Elementary School and Wilmette Junior High School to Wilmette Park District camp will be available after third period classes. These camps include: Afternoon Adventures, Arts in the Park, Junior Day, Gilson, and Sports Camp. The service is included in the $140 transportation fee at the end of the SEP day. G R A D E S K - 3 A T C E N T R A L S C H O O L Period 1 Just Fun & Games (K-1) Instructor: Stefanos Apostolopoulos Maximum Participants: 16 Cost: $175 + $35 material fee Participate in fun non-competitive games and activities that emphasize teamwork, turn-taking, social skill development, interpersonal skills, and the foundational skills to play with friends! Fine Motor Fun (K-1) Instructor: Maeghan Deutsch Maximum Participants: 16 Cost: $175 + $25 material fee Improve your fine motor skills while having fun! Through hands-on activities, we will strengthen our fine motor skills through exciting games, creative crafts, and special activities. Dance Through Summer (1-3) Instructor: Jill Gontovnick Maximum Participants: 15 Cost: $175 + $25 material fee Spend the summer on stage! If you like to act, dance, and sing (to a recorded track), this is the class for you! Working together as a cast in this fun, confidence-building class, you'll learn to find your voice as a performer, understand stage directions, and improve collaboration skills. A live performance at the end of SEP will allow you to shine as a star on the stage! In the event we cannot have a live performance, a recorded or virtual performance will take place. Girls Run Club (2-3) Instructor: Kelli Lowry Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $10 material fee Girls can do anything they put their mind to! Gaining confidence and endurance is our JAM! Run Club will offer empowerment and important life skills and healthy habits through lessons and running. Lace up your shoes, grab your water bottle and let's hit the pavement for some fun! Students will have the continued experience and routine of attending school while maintaining identified goal areas. A student may still sign up for an enrichment class in lieu of a period of ESY. PreK students have an adjusted schedule-- 4 days per week (Tuesday - Friday) from 9::10 - 11:40 AM. Review & Reinforcement ELA (K-3) Class Size: 10 - 15 per class Cost: $50 -- code required Students review and strengthen foundational reading skills. Emphasis is placed on word recognition, vocabulary development, comprehension, and listening skills. A variety of hands-on activities, games, and fun experiences reinforce direct instruction. We will practice math skills such as capacity measurement, temperature, cooking times, and fractions in real time. At the end of the class, you will take home a special cookbook and apron so you can make delicious meals and treats for your family! Express Yourself (1-3) Instructor: Jill Gontovnick Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $25 material fee Let your inner star shine this summer! If you love to share your creativity and imagination, this is the class for you. Together we will work on an informal Variety- Show-style performance to be shared at the end of the program. Do you want to keep moving this summer? Come join us for some fun in the sun as we get ourselves moving. Lace up your shoes, grab your water bottle and let's hit the pavement for some fun! Shoulders start swaying when you hum a song? This is not a formal dance class, but we will have fun moving to different kinds of music. If you want to learn some basic combinations, make new friends while dancing, and choreograph a routine of your own, then this is the course for you! Join us and move your Feet to the Beat! Phonics Camp: Alphabet & letter Sounds (k-1) Instructor: Maeghan Deutsch Maximum Participants: 16 Cost: $175 + $25 material fee We will focus on the fundamental literacy skills of phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, phonics, and high frequency words. Students will enhance letter sound correspondence and target decoding and encoding skills. This will be a fun and engaging camp using games, songs and movement to improve early literacy skills! G R A D E S 4 - 7 A T W J H S Period 1 Introduction to Improv (4-5) Instructor: Mary Kate Lubowski Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $20 material fee Give your imagination a blast of spontaneity! Improvisation works to increase a child's observation and concentration skills while freeing their imaginations! Students will learn the basic rules of improvisation and then put them to use playing performance games. A fun, fast-paced, funny class! The Book Watchers (4-7) Instructor: Katlyn Culligan Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $25 material fee Each week we will read a different short story and practice our vocabulary, literary devices, themes, and real world connections skills. At the end of each week, we will watch a media adaptation of that short story to compare and contrast these versions. Games, Puzzles, & Paper in the Math Classroom (6-7) Instructor: Anne Jacobs Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $10 material fee Come play with math. In this camp, you will play math games, work on puzzles, make origami figures and draw designs with the protractor & compass. G R A D E S 4 - 7 A T W J H S Period 1 Creative Reading Club (4) Instructor: Meghan Flanigan Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $25 material fee Students will study an engaging young adult novel while creatively exploring an array of literary elements and techniques. We will READ, discuss, create, debate and more! Join us as we escape into this fun summer reading club! Running Camp (4-7) Instructor: Sarah Cortesi Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $10 material fee Do you like to run or want to become a better runner? Do you want to be able to run a 5K by the end of the summer with a group of motivated individuals just like you? Whether you're an advanced runner or a beginner, come join Ms. Cortesi at Running Camp where we will set running goals, work hard to achieve them, and celebrate our progress. Creative Cookery (4-5) Instructor: Wesley Needle & Lauren Amabile Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $35 material fee Enjoy the art of cooking! Create a variety of recipes from main dishes to desserts. Learn how to measure and follow directions as you prepare recipes that you can cook at home for your family. G R A D E S 4 - 7 A T W J H S Period 1 Engineering Design + 3D Modeling (6-7) Instructor: Paul Harper Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $35 material fee An Engineering Design course that allows students to use engineering processes to design and propose new devices, where they would also design and build prototypes using 3D or laser cutting processes. This is a higher level STEM course that is hands on and allows for group participation. Blast Off with Rockets (4-5) Instructor: Elizabeth Dubs & Bill Schaaf Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $70 material fee Learn how to build beginning Estes and Custom model rockets and launch them. Have fun while learning the basic concepts of physics, such as thrust, drag, and aerodynamics. Frequent launchings will be scheduled. Basketball Fun (4-5) Instructor: Mike Larsen Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $10 material fee Come shoot hoops with us! In this camp, we'll play a variety of playground basketball games, including Knock Out, H-O-R-S-E, free throw contests, three point competitions, and 3-on-3 games. G R A D E S 4 - 7 A T W J H S Period 1 Jewelry Making (4-7) Instructor: Linda Peritz Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $50 material fee Beading enthusiasts this class is for you! You will be busy with assorted beads and findings to create necklaces, bracelets and earrings. There are so many different types of beautiful beads and stings for great ideas. You will also learn macrame, enjoy lanyard and creating friendship bracelets. You will have you own plastic box to stash your goodies along with a handcrafted jewelry box. Net Sports (4-5) Instructor: Joe Taylor Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $5 material fee Students will learn how to play pickleball, badminton, and volleyball. This class will help students learn the skills and rules to play these fun games. All students are required to wear athletic shoes, bring a water bottle, and a positive attitude. Create items for your room, door, or even to give away. In this class you will paint and decorate, the opportunities are endless! While we personalize our crafts, we will improve your cursive skills through calligraphy! You will have the opportunity to practice and then craft beautiful handwritten cards, letters, or just about anything that involves beautiful hand writing. Create your own stationary, notepads and more to bring home. Net Sports (6-7) Instructor: Joe Taylor Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $5 material fee Students will learn how to play pickleball, badminton, and volleyball. G R A D E S 4 - 7 A T W J H S Period 3 Cross Country + Fall Sports Conditioning Instructor: Mary Kate Lubawski Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $10 material fee Get ready for fall sports and develop a love of running with this fun, challenging, and active class. We will run on the fields between WJHS and Highcrest, as well as the neighborhoods around the school. We will play games to increase speed and endurance, as well as learn the importance of stretching and active rest days. Best of all, we will have a lot of fun! The Book Watchers (4-5) Instructor: Katlyn Culligan Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $25 material fee Each week we will read a different short story and practice our vocabulary, literary devices, themes, and real world connections skills. At the end of each week, we will watch a media adaptation of that short story to compare and contrast these versions. Games, Puzzles, & Paper in the Math Classroom (4-7) Instructor: Anne Jacobs Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $10 material fee Come play with math. In this camp, you will play math games, work on puzzles, make origami figures and draw designs with the protractor & compass. Are you always looking for the next best seller? Well, we’ve got the camp for you! Come join Ms. Cortesi for a summer reading book club! Creative Cookery (4-5) Instructor: Wes Needle & Lauren Amabile Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $35 material fee Enjoy the art of cooking! Create a variety of recipes from main dishes to desserts. Learn how to measure and follow directions as you prepare recipes that you can cook at home for your family. G R A D E S 4 - 7 A T W J H S Period 3 Volleyball Skills Camp (5-7) Instructor: Paul Harper Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $10 material fee A volleyball skills camp that allows for skill development and learning of the game of volleyball in a relaxed environment. Blast Off with Rockets (4-7) Instructor: Elizabeth Dubs & Bill Schaaf Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $70 material fee Learn how to build beginning Estes and Custom model rockets and launch them. Have fun while learning the basic concepts of physics, such as thrust, drag, and aerodynamics. Frequent launchings will be scheduled. 30 for 30 & Other Sports Documentaries (4-7) Instructor: Mike Larsen Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $5 material fee Come join us to watch a new episode each day of 30-for 30, an ESPN documentary series highlighting interesting people and events in sports history. We will watch interesting movies about Michael Jordan's baseball career, the fastest man in the history of the world, and the craziest day in sports history, among other topics. G R A D E S 4 - 7 A T W J H S Period 3 Sculptures & Ceramic Fun (4-7) Instructor: Linda Peritz Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $50 material fee In this class you will use your imagination to create clay masterpieces. These pieces will be fired with glaze that makes them bright and shiny. You will create 5-10 items this summer and take them all home. You will also use your skills to build 3D sculptures out of assorted materials. Be ready to be busy and have a lot of fun. Strength + Conditioning (6-7) Instructor: Joe Taylor Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $20 material fee Students will work on strength, agility, and conditioning using exercise equipment and body weight. In addition, they will learn proper form, different types of equipment to use for a variety of exercises, and create their own exercise plan. All students are required to wear athletic shoes, bring a water bottle, and a positive attitude. Creative Reading Club (5) Instructor: Meghan Flanigan Maximum Participants: 20 Cost: $175 + $25 material fee Students will study an engaging young adult novel while creatively exploring an array of literary elements and techniques. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR YOUR CONFIRMATION LETTER You will receive a confirmation letter with class assignments and bus information, if applicable, approximately two weeks before classes start. S U M MER P R O G R A M REFUND PROCESS Tuition and fees are fully refundable for medical reasons or because of course cancellations. In addition, a fifty percent refund of tuition and fees will be given for withdrawals before April 1, 2022. No refunds will be given after April 2, 2022. This practice is strictly enforced to allow completion of the Summer Enrichment Programs hiring, and class supply purchasing. Your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
