WYPW 5th General Assembly Water Leaders of Tomorrow Making Waves of Change Today For this 5th edition, the International Secretariat for Water (ISW) and the WYPW decided to present a new and innovative format to maximize the potential impact of the event and youth engagement while ensuring the health and safety of all participants. While the first part of the 5th GA took place online in March 2021, the second part of the GA is planned to be held in the frame of the 9th World Water Forum (WWForum) from March 16th to March 25th, 2022 in Dakar, Senegal. 60 committed youth have been selected to represent their country during this 10 day event. *This event is officially recognized as a Road to Dakar 2022 event! Building a community of young change-makers committed to water across the globe 7
About the theme and objectives Under the umbrella of the Forum’s theme, Water Security for Peace and Development, you will have the opportunity to: Learn from peers and take part in interactive and engaging workshops. Discover Senegalese water issues and culture via field visits and activities with local communities. Connect with inspiring high-level experts and young water leaders. Influence the water governance by contributing to the 9th WWForum sessions. Develop a strong advocacy strategy and key messages. Present youth perspectives and priorities during several sessions and side events of the 9th WWForum. Strengthen the WYPW and Chapters synergies. Shape a strong and unified #WaterGeneration.
The Program is articulated around three pillars: The Organizers A team of intergenerational water passionates What is the International Secretariat for Water? The ISW, which is at the origin of the Youth Parliaments for Water, is a non- governmental organization based in Montreal, Canada. The ISW envisions a world in which water is equitably accessible to all, fostering the empowerment of local actors as well as cooperation between borders, generations, and institutions. ISW’s mission is to initiate and facilitate actions that contribute to positive systemic changes in the framework of water governance from the local to the global level and to the empowerment of actors involved in the water sector. One of the three main pillars of the ISW strategy is to empower the #WaterGeneration. ISW’s Youth Strategy 2017-2022’s vision is inspired by the idea of the youth movement for water; a movement that involves the large-scale, dynamic and connected mobilization of young people worldwide. Since 2002, ISW has been supporting and guiding WYPW in the development of new regional Parliaments, connecting youth to decision-making processes, and mobilizing youth to take action. www.sie-isw.org What is the World Youth Parliament for Water? The World Youth Parliament for Water (WYPW) is a global network of young leaders acting for water. We are active in more than 80 countries, advocating and acting from local to international levels for a strong youth water management. This movement of passionate young people generates positive change at all levels: from local communities, where they implement concrete actions, to the United Nations General Assembly, where they advocate for youth participation in the water sector. Over the years, the WYPW has become a recognized and powerful actor in the water sector and beyond. www.youthforwater.org 3
