FALL 2021 UPDATE Dear Audio-Reader Subscriber, October 11th marks a special anniversary for us: 50 years of serving blind, visually-impaired and print- disabled individuals across Kansas and Missouri! When our founder Petey Cerf started a partnership with the University of Kansas to purchase a full-power FM transmitter so KANU could broadcast Audio-Reader on its subcarrier, little did she know that 50 years later the same service would be reaching listeners via the same radio technology, as well as new-fangled means like podcasts, smart speakers and the internet. We are excited to mark this milestone with a celebration in Abe & Jake’s Landing in Lawrence on November 5th (keep reading for more info) as well as a special celebration on October 11th at our location in Lawrence, and over the airwaves from 11am – 12 noon. We count ourselves lucky to have many dedicated volunteers still working from home, with more people returning to our studios, to bring you the programming you depend on. Here’s to another 50 years! Stay safe, Audio-Reader Staff & Volunteers 4
