Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 Dear Prinect User The Prinect Team at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG is pleased to announce the availability of the new Prinect Version 2021 and to provide you with an overview of the key innovations in this document. For many years now, Prinect has been boosting workflow productivity and thus the efficiency of print shops through functional improvements - keyword Push to Stop. However, the top priority of every new Prinect version is to bring the system fundamentals up to date and troubleshoot errors to ensure production reliability and stability in the future. The software world is spinning faster and faster, and Prinect is spinning with it so that you can rely on your Prinect system. In this document you will find many links to in-depth information. You can decide whether the new features are so relevant that you want more information. We then forward to the "Prinect Newsroom", “Prinect Video Tutorials” or the "Prinect Online Help", where more in-depth information, be it videos, texts or Power Points are available. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 Automation 1 Prinect supports touch point reduction with automated plate logistics The Prinect Production Manager 2021 workflow in conjunction with the new generation of Speedmaster XL 106 presses, Suprasetter and a Nela plate sorting system gets artificial intelligence into print production. When a new generation Speedmaster XL 106 is equipped with the Plate-to-Unit option the number of manual touchpoints in this process can be reduced from 23 to 3, reaching a completely new level of automation in print production. Heidelberg has optimized the entire printing plate management process starting with optimized job sequence planning in Prinect with the Scheduler, through the plate imaging process, fully automated loading and unloading plates into and out of the printing units and disposal of old plates. The Prinect workflow provides the means to automatically sort, image and deliver the plates required for print based on the pressroom scheduling data with the Plate Pilot. The information required to identify the plates is present at all steps. Automatic planning routines optimize the print sequences to reduce make-ready time to the minimum and achieve saving in e.g. washing cycles/times. The plates needed are imaged by a Suprasetter with attached Nela system and delivered to the Speedmaster Plate to Unit accessory in time and sorted exactly as required for the planned press run. The Plate to Unit option of the new Speedmaster XL 106 press generation executes the plate change fully automated, without an operator touching the plates – removing physical strain from the operator, especially when it comes to frequent job changes due to declining run lengths. This should also lead to less plates scratched, bent or tilted by accident. The job status can be tracked at any of the positions – During the printing process, the old plates of the last print job are removed, and the new plates are supplied to the printing units for the next job. All fully automatic. After printing the sheets are transferred to the Stahlfolders, which as the next scheduled work step which now – as the presses – also work following the Heidelberg Push to Stop concept. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 Prinect supports automated plate logistics: → provides scheduling for optimal sequences that help saving washing cycles / press readjustments → Plate Pilot functionality with widget for plate output control → interacts with NELA for plate recognition and quality control → Perfectly sorted plates at Plate-to-Unit / Plate-to-Gallery on time 1.1 Improved Plate Pilot Widget for output control The Plate Pilot Widget was originally designed as a tool to monitor the automatic sorting of the plate output according to the press schedule. The first Plate Pilot implementations utilizing the Prinect 2020 Plate Pilot Widget showed that some parts could be improved. The area with the biggest demand for changes was the Platestack handling, where it is now possible to create a platestack before rendering remove print worksteps from a platestack abort a platestack in imaging Other improvements made to make working smoother were the possibility to display imagesetter names a better time/date stamp submission during TIFF output. These last two being beneficial especially for con- nections of 3rd party CtP devices. Another important change is the capability to manually sort unplanned print worksteps in plate stack for casen in which operations were not planned in advance. All these changes available in Prinect 2021 make the Plate Pilot Widget a tool that can not only be used for monitoring the automatic process but also for efficient interactions for plate output control in a print shop. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 2 Project offer: Gang automation considering postpress requirements (segmented ganging) Prinect 2021 incorporates new functionality that can be activated as part of a customer project for industrialized customers that want to get even better results out of our Automated Ganging functionality first introduced with Prinect 2018. The new “Ganging for segments with Finishing” functionality requires configuration efforts, as the worksteps to be effected in the postpress department influence the position of the single job on the ganged sheet. This is, why the functionality will only be activated in scope of a individual project The different jobs printed on the ganged sheet need to be separated depending on the necessary postpress steps. This can be quite time consuming when a number of jobs with varying requirements have been put onto the sheet. A correctly configured Prinect 2021 with active “Ganging for segments with Finishing” can automatically place the elements on the sheets sensibly – and thus save time, hassle and money. In order to do so, Prinect Prepress 2021 reads the product code coming from the web shop or MIS – and the Signa Station imposition component respects this information to place the elements into “cuttable” segments. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 3 Automatic Paper Stretch Compensation – now 3 clicks instead of 3 days Prinect APSC is a great software solution to solve paper stretch impacts on qual- ity and make ready. Up to now it was necessary to learn the paper’s behavior by measuring the deviations on the sheet and generating a compensation curve. This was a time-consuming process of up to 3 days. The new version 2021 provides some compensation curves as part of the soft- ware. These curves are ready to use! The user can start immediately. Only 3 clicks are necessary! 3.1 Standard curves – Ready for use In the Prinect prepress workflow simply assign the standard curve to your pre- ferred sequence. In hot folder workflows simply generate a new hot folder. Let your jobs be compensated automatically. Prinect APSC 2021 provides an easy to use button to do so: seeing the sheet contour you quickly click on the edges and draw the contour like it appears on your printed sheet. This will calculate the new curve. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 Push to Stop support 4 Prinect Press Center with Autofill Since Press Center XL 2 and XL 3 with Wallscreen XL there are different possibilities available to select and release jobs for the queue. Single operations could be selected, enhanced and released to be queued. Another variant is the quick release function, that could be initiated by right mouse click and the direct selection for the queue. For both ways the press operator needs to organize the job sequence according to the planning or the experience of how to produce the prints in the best way. Luckily Prinect Press Center with Autofill prevents the press operator from this kind of action. At the printing press, the automatic takeover of the operations into the machine queue require a pre-configuration, which is already available from the Prinect Press Center S19A software onwards. The planning results could come either from a Prinect Scheduler or the Prinect Portal (with operation sequence planning) or from an integrated MIS with scheduling functionality and online transfer of planning results. With activation of the Autofill functionality the first operations in the planned sequence are automatically released and transferred to the machine queue. Once an operation has been finished, the next operation is automatically released according to the planned sequence. The release algorithm offers the following transfer behavior: • At least 3 operations are released, if available. • These 3 operations are supplemented with additional operations to provide for a minimum of 15 minutes production. • A maximum of 10 operations are released in case they do not have a planned duration. Benefits → Reduction of necessary machine adjustments for setup at the press, saving time. → The operator does not need to select and transfer operations from the job list to the machine queue anymore. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 5 Plate trolley information Today a press operator already receives multiple information for choosing the next operation in the job list of a Prinect Press Center. With Prinect 2021 we provide the additional information of the plate trolley ID. At the press the plate trol- ley ID could be displayed in the job list of Prinect Press Center (from software version S20A onwards). By the way, Pri- nect Scheduler offers this parameter in the list of operations as well. The assignment of a plate trolley ID happens either automatically once a Nela plate sorter is in place or manually with our Plate Pilot (Prinect Portal Widget). The Prinect Press Center S20A offers two different possibilities: Sorting job list by column “plate trolley” in order to select the next workstep Filtering job list by plate trolley ID in order to select suitable worksteps Benefits → Fast and easy job selection at the press console reduces the make-ready times and is less error-prone. 6 Extended barcode functionalities Since several years Prinect supports the selection of operations at the press console via barcodes (job ID and plate ID). Therefore the presses used USB barcode scanner for scanning. In order to make use of the extended barcode functionalities it is essential to have the Push to Stop philosophy with scheduling and output via Plate Pilot in mind. The Prinect workflow knows the job ID, the plate ID of each plate, the plate trolley ID and the sequence of plates on each trolley. As of Prinect 2021 and Prinect Press Center software version coming later this year a barcode for the trolley ID allows the pre-selection of the operations as mentioned above, but now the barcode functionalities go much further. By the way, the new barcode scanner is an Ethernet scanner and requires an optional software license at the press. Here is an over- view on the new capabilities: ➔ Scanning of a plate ID lets you check if the plate belongs to the next plate set for the change over at Press Center or not and in which printing unit the plate should be mounted (no configuration necessary) ➔ Scanning of a plate ID could be used to filter all suitable worksteps in the job list of Prinect Press Center or to transfer the job(s) into the job queue at Prinect Press Center ➔ Scanning of any plate ID of a trolley could be used to filter all operations of the trolley from the job list or to transfer the result automatically into the job queue at Prinect Press Center ➔ Scanning of the plate trolley ID could be used to filter all operations of the trolley from the job list or to transfer the result automatically into the job queue at Prinect Press Center Of course, the last 3 capabilities will need to be pre-configured at the Prinect Press Center according to the workflow possibilities. Furthermore please keep in mind the necessary barcode pre-fixes for the job ID (J$), plate ID (N$) and trolley ID (B$). Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 7 Improved queue handling These days production needs to be increasingly flexible. Thus, a strong communication between the workflow and the different workplaces in a company is vital. In the past the operations that were released from the job list to the job queue of the Prinect Press Center were no longer in the hands of the workflow anymore. Once several jobs (up to 50) have been queued, this caused some trouble if jobs got deleted right before printing or the scheduled sequence changed. Now with Prinect 2021 and Prinect Press Center software S20A the communication is strengthened as follows : ➔ If a job gets deleted in Prinect workflow the operation in the queue shows a special eye-catching symbol. ➔ If a job was re-scheduled and needs to be placed on another position in the job queue of the press there is an- other eye-catching symbol. ➔ Worksteps that do not allow modifications will be locked accordingly. In general the symbols show the operator that action is required to clear-up the issues. Of course, all that supports Push to Stop in order to run a seamless production. To make use of this functionality the Prinect Press Center needs to be con- figured accordingly. 8 Cut Star Information In the past the Cut Star device of a printing press was set manually. The press operator had to switch the Cut Star on or off according the substrate used for the next job. As of Prinect 2021 the specification of substrates gets enhanced by fur- ther parameters. Thus, substrates can include the information if they are paper or foil and furthermore available on pile or on roll. The extended specification is then transferred to Prinect Press Center and will get used for automatic Cut Star presetting as of Press Center software version later this year. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 9 Preparation of further presetting capabilities In order to further support the Intellistart process at Prinect Press Center we are on the way to provide further relevant presetting data. This will lead to enormous time savings during the presetting process at the presses. Especially the color measurement device Prinect Inpress Control always requests the spectral values (LAB) for paper white, in order to run without separate measurement of the values right before each production run. With Prinect 2021 the system could handle spectral values inside the system, so that the one-time measurement of a substrate at the press could be stored. Available values are then transferred to all active operations in the Prinect system and are therefore as well available for all presses. This is just a pre-liminary notice, due to the currently missing integration testing with cor- responding Press Center software. As soon as these tests will be successful, we will inform you separately. Another important value could be set manually in the area “color” in Prinect Cockpit. Via the coating plate ID it will be possible to preset the coating unit of a press. Prinect Press Center Intellistart will make use of the transferred infor- mation and generate the job change program with advices for the operator accordingly. Also this feature is not finally tested at present. We will inform you once the corresponding Press Center software is tested and released. 9.1 Varnish Plate – visibilty in Cockpit The Prinect 2021 Cockpit got functionality improving the handling of varnish plates to further support the Push-to-Stop philosophy at the presses. Indicating the re-use of varnish plates is now supported in the Prinect Cockpit across jobs by means of the Plate ID. A “Plate ID” indicates what kind of varnish plate is required for the print run. The Prinect Cockpit Plate View shows all Plates, including • Varnish (Plate ID and Number) • Spot Varnish (Plate ID, no Plate Number) • Full Varnish (neither Plate ID nor Name) With Prinect 2021 the Plate ID definitions can be effected in the Prinect Cockpit, so that the indication if a plate change is required is present and visible for the operators. It is also possible to assign an already existing Plate ID to a plate to indicate its re-use. It is planned that in a future fully automatic workflow those Plate IDs are already defined in the Business Manager. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 Integration 10 API Enhancements 10.1 Spectral data of color quality measurings transferred Particularly companies in the packaging sector often are forced by their print buyers and brand owners to use 3rd party’s color quality evaluation tools such as Bodoni’s pressSIGN or Colorware’s MeasureColor. Their reports need measured spectral data. Up to now Prinect API only could be queried for measured color values like ∆E, TVI (tone value increase) and density after the job was completed. Prinect API now is enhanced to send measured spectral data in IT8/CGATS standard by the Heidelberg measuring devices Prinect Inpress Control 3, Prinect Axis Control and Prinect Easy Control as of Press Center software version S20B.* The data is available in real time. That allows the data evaluation already during make ready process and to use it for early process control during production. Benefits → Spectral data can be queried by 3rd party color evaluation software. → Real time subscription allows to use measured color data for immediate process evaluation. *Note : For Prinect Image Control NG and 3 IT8 data was already available via the software option Color Interface. Inpress Control 3 sends only data of solid tones and single color tone value increase (TVI) and is not suitable for evaluation in accordance to the IdeAlliance’s G7 process. All other data of quality measurings still can be queried as already known. 10.2 Sheet classification for waste management Optimizing production always means reducing waste. It is important to know how and why waste was produced in order to assess the reason for it. As of Press Center software version S20A this information can be set in the Device Assistant of the press console (Prinect Press Center 3 / XL 3) and then queried via Prinect API. The data (documentation for each single sheet) will be available for the last 15 days: Sheet type information like “printed”, “unprinted”, “startup sheet” in- cluding amounts Sheet class information like “good”, “waste” and “unprinted” Information about the final place of the sheet (“delivery pile”, “sample sheet table”, “waste collector”) Information delivered by CodeStar (individual sheet identification) Information delivered by Prinect Inspection Control about sheet quality Available for sheetfed presses as of S20A (precondition: configuration of waste classification in Press Center’s Device Assistant is done). Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 11 Waste management More and more printers want to have control on their waste. Especially the security printers need to know exactly what happened with each single sheet, that ran through the press. The new integrated Device Assistant that is included in the new Prinect Press Center 3/ XL 3 can link all machine signals and also inline measuring systems (Prinect Inpress Con- trol 3 and Prinect Inspection Control 3) with an acoustic signal, a lamp, the integrated InsertStar (tape inserter), fully automatic waste ejector or the sheet catcher in the delivery. It is also possible with the new CodeStar to mark each single sheet while the infeed process with a continues number to get clear marking and identification. Please see also previous chapter on Prinect API. To assess the information of each single sheets via the Prinect API the Device Assistant needs to be set according to spe- cial customer or job demands. Therefore the Device Assistant could be set with 10 individual profiles directly in the In- tellistart 3 at the press. Here some examples: Profile 1 - startup sheets should run into the waste colletor ejector. Profile 2 - switching on the good sheet counter should activate Insert Start to insert a tape. Profile 3 – different kind of detected errors by Prinect Inspection Control should run either to the delivery pile or in the waste ejector. Etc. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 12 Correction of workstep-related amounts Online connected presses deliver waste and good sheet amounts to Analyze Point. Sometimes, if the operator forgets to press the good sheet counter, all printed sheets are recorded as waste. This ends in wrong evaluations and reports in An- alyze Point, Smart BI and Prinect API. Therefore workstep-related amounts could be corrected within a 24 hours time- frame under the following pre-conditions: Amount values of an online connected printing device Specific value preview flag is enabled (one-time activation/ setting of Heidelberg service) Prinect operator has an employee ID and the user-right to correct the amounts Once corrections are made, … … the setup and production times are re-calculated according to the new amounts. … the reports and evaluations in Analyze Point apply to the new values. … Prinect API queries and Smart BI receive consistent information. … a notification (JMF) is sent out. Who are the target customers for this functionality? Customers, that work purely with Analyze Point or customers that have a MIS, that is capable to set up a project in order to process these kind of JMF notifications. If customers are interested in this functionality and have a corresponding workflow environment, the Heidelberg service department needs to be contacted in order to set the system flag for previewing and correcting the amounts accordingly. 13 New Prinect Portal widgets “Shift report” and “Approve shift report” Some customers work with a bonus payment model. They set targets for the performance of their press operators and pay them accordingly. Therefore it is essential to have tools to monitor the daily tasks and to approve and release the captured figures of printed sheets and production times. With Prinect 2021 we offer two new Prinect Portal widgets. Shift report (for press operators) By end of the shift the press op- erator (captain) could display the captured times and amounts. After checking the val- ues the operator could enter comments and release or reject them. The widget for the press operator provides an overview on the last 30 days. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 The shift report widget could run on the Wallscreen of a Speedmaster press or on a separate PC in the pressroom. Pre-requisites: The planned amounts and times need to be available in the Prinect system. Thus, they have to be trans- ferred from the MIS or manually set with Planning Assistant Approve shift report (for print shop managers) The shift reports of one or more presses can be displayed by the print shop manager. For each shift the captured values, comments and the reached targets could be ap- proved or rejected. The data are availalbe for the last 30 days. Pre-requisite : The user right for approving the shift report has to be applied for the print shop manager. The detailed operation manual could be found on the Prinect Help Portal (German / English (soon)). 14 Die-cutter integration of Masterwork Machinery The company Masterwork offers equipment for mainly packaging printers. In order to support the close co-operation with Heidelberg we are on the way to qualify the integration of their die-cutting devices. The integration depth will cer- tainly be closely dependent on the type and version of the individual machine. Next to the well-known manual shop floor data collection via Data Terminal (with or without counter box), we will offer a connection via “Generic Postpress Inter- face”. The design of a license for the Generic Postpress Interface is comparable to the license for Instant Gate of a Speedmaster press or Stahlfolder, i.e. a license is required for each machine connection. The license functions include: JDF/JMF interface to the machine / system (for transferring job and presetting data as well as feedback on produc- tion data such as machine status, counter readings or speed information) Dedicated Data Terminal on a separate PC (for capturing employee messages, the display and processing of the job list, manual production data and material messages, printing of pallet labels) Pre-requisites for an integration project are at least: Prinect Postpress Manager within one of the following scenarios: o Full integration of Prepress, Pressroom and Postpress Manager with or without MIS o Integration of Pressroom and Postpress Manager with MIS connection Masterwork device with corresponding integration possibilities Copyright © 2020 Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG. It is now possible to create a Prinect workflow gang job during creation of a gang job in Signa Station. The filters active in Signa Station now work a little different compared to 2020. This makes them capable of more exactly differentiating jobs created “the last day”: they now use the current day from 0-24 hours as a filter criterion, irrespective of when the filter is set. Is a filter set for "Hours", the time is calculated as before as of the present second. Is it set for "Days/Weeks/Months/Years", the time is calculated as of 00:00 of the current day. Another big improvement is the capability to configure Automarks as resources Until Prinect 2020 it was only possible to define which automarks are to be used when creating a new job in the Preferences. New tool : "Step and Repeat" This new function lets you repeat an object on the page with identical spacing. The object placed can contain / be a data record entry that is then automatically replaced, e.g names and prices of the flowers shown on the labels. The system then checks whether Western European, Eastern European, Cyrillic, Greek, Turkish or Baltic is the most suitable character set for each replacement. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 Prinect Versafire DFE 20 Prinect Versafire DFE News The 2021 version of Prinect Versafire DFE (Digital Frontend) controls the Versafire EV and EP presses, which can be operated either in standalone mode or integrated into the Prinect workflow. The new features in the 2021 version ensure easy and uncomplicated preparation of layouts and rapid processing of data, especially in automatic job distribution. Furthermore, Prinect 2021 version supports the new finishing devices of the most recent Versafire models. To ensure smooth production, we would like to emphasize again that no third-party (Non-Heidelberg) software should be installed on the Prinect DFE except Adobe Acrobat. It should be in the greatest interest of every user, to ensure the functionality of the Prinect DFE. Uncontrolled installation of additional software can lead to unforeseen incompatibilities or slowdowns and therefore, it is not recommended by Heidelberg. 20.1 Digital Cluster Prinect Digital Cluster is to cluster 2 or more Versafire devices to increase the workflow's optimization and productivity. All jobs can be planned and prepared for a cluster instead of a specific single digital device. Besides, jobs can be sent to a device cluster and distributed depending on device availability, which compensates for the failure of a machine if this happens. Prinect Digital Cluster offers a load balancing functionality. The jobs will be distributed to different digital printing devices of the cluster according to the number of pages and amount manually or automatically. So far, the folded sheets have always been distributed from left to right and from top to bottom. For certain further processing steps it is necessary to be able to determine other distributions. For example: Right to left and top to bottom. This is available dependent on microcode 3.11.xxx and higher. For the Versafire (K5), a sort order can be set in the DPM under the layout tab. There are two combo boxes. The first indicates the first direction of distribution with an arrow and the second combo box accordingly defines the second direction. Product Information | Prinect Production Commercial 2021 Important reminder! 22 Important information about the Prinect Press Center 3 / XL 3 22.1 Prinect Press Center 3 / XL 3 and Prinect Prepress Interface The Instant Gate software option will no longer support online connection to the Prinect Prepress Interface with the software version S20A. The change to Instant Gate only affects new machine deliveries with Prinect Press Center 3 / XL 3 as of April 2020. Nothing will change for machine control panels already in the market or machine software versions with the Instant Gate option. If a customer installing a new printing press wants to keep using the Prinect Prepress Interface, the calculated ink zone values can only be transferred via USB stick. Both Product Management Prinect and Product Management Sheetfed rec- ommend using the Prinect Production Manager in combination with Prinect Press Center 3 / XL 3 machines. Alterna- tively, a Prinect Pressroom Manager with existing maintenance agreement can also be upgraded to the current Prinect versions. 22.2 Prinect Press Center 3 / XL 3 with Easy, Axis, or Inpress Control Starting with software version S20A (April 2020), the local color database will no longer be available.
