INSTITUTE Creative Producer APPLICATION FORM WITH A PROJECT
Call for submissions is open from APPLICATION FORM November 12 2019 till January 31st 2020 or until when we receive 150 submissions. Please complete this form and send it together with other requested documents to Realness Institute: submissions@realness.institute Creative Producer Indaba is a year-long professional development program offered by Realness Institute, in partnership with EAVE, International Film Festival Rotterdam’s IFFR Pro and Sundance Institute. We are searching for applicants looking to hone their leadership and entrepreneurial ability and build their creative skills. We aim to select a well balanced group of 15 participants in total, including: Producers (with and without projects) from Africa; producers from North America and Europe with an interest in co-producing with Africa, as well as film professionals from other disciplines such as distribution, international sales, funding bodies, institutions, broadcasters and development executives with a stake in the African marketplace. This open call is for the African applicants, European and North American producers are selected by invitation only. European producers are asked to contact Kristina Trapp, EAVE Chief Executive (kristina@eave.org) or Marit van Elshout, Head of IFFR Pro (m.vandenelshout@iffr.com) and North American producers to contact Matthew Takata, Manager, Sundance Institute Feature Film Program (matthew_takata@sundance.org). Eligibility: Candidates are required to have produced at least one feature fiction, a series or documentary film; or a minimum of two short films as lead producer or co-producer (executive producer, associate or line producer does not qualify). Applicants may apply with a feature film, episodic or feature documentary project. For documentary projects, we will require a treatment as well as 5-10 minutes of rushes, character introduction tapes or a sizzle real. Documentary projects are eligible at all stages of development or production. Applicant must be the producer, not the director of the submitted project and must be available for CPI program dates below. Program Dates: Session 1: 9th to the 16th of September 2020, Session 2: 13th to the 20th of January 2021 Outcome: Creative Producer Indaba selected projects and respective producers will be matched with the most relevant African film market to present their incubated project. Choice of market will be determined after the Session 2. Costs: A 30 Euro application fee is required. Please send us an email before the deadline with ONE pdf document, which SUBMIT includes this completed application form as well as the following supporting documents to submissions@realness.institute All written documents, including the script, must be submitted in English. • 1/2 page Letter of motivation* • A Short Bio (300 words max.) • If relevant, a brief description of production company or professional activities (1 page max), and if applicable, a list of productions divided into development, pre-production, production and of those released. Please note the format of the work (I.E. short film, feature, or episodic; fiction or nonfiction, year, countries of production, festivals, awards) • A link to your previous work either on Vimeo or Youtube. A second link is optional. • Responses to essay questions (see below, maximum 2 pages for all 5 questions) • Letter of recommendation (1 page) • 1 photograph/portrait (.pdf) • The payment confirmation for the registration fee of 30 € (.pdf) Essay Questions: Your essay responses allow us to better understand your point of view as a producer. We would like to get a sense of your strengths as a producer, but also the areas where you seek to gain experience/knowledge. 1. How do you define the role of a creative producer? 2. What has drawn you to producing independent films? What skills and experiences do you bring to the task – from life, education and hands-on experience? Tell us something about your background and values as they relate to your desire to produce films independently. 3. What are the current challenges you are facing in moving your career forward and what are the specific areas of producing that you wish to further develop? 4. During the Indaba year, fellows work closely with staff to design opportunities for limited mentorship and networking based on goals set at the beginning of the year. If given the opportunity of participating in Indaba, what particular goals would you want to work towards in this year for your career? 5. What movie has had the most profound impact on your life and why? What is your projected timeline for completion? FUNDRAISING STRATEGY/FUNDING TO DATE: (300 word maximum) What are marketplace (ie. financing and distribution) challenges and opportunities for your project? ARTISTIC APPROACH: (500 words maximum) As a producer, how would you define success for this film?
