POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION OVERVIEW Brigidine College exists to inspire young women to be the difference. It is a place of educational expertise and exceptional learning procedures where individual differences and the potential of each student are respected. Young women are given the opportunity to pursue academic excellence and personal fulfilment in a culturally rich environment. They are encouraged to seek for wisdom and understanding enlightened by Christian values within Kildare Ministries / Brigidine College framework. The Director of Information Services (Tullow Centre) assists the Principal in providing quality Catholic education for the students in the care of the College. As a member of the Middle Leadership structure of the College, the Director of Information Services (Tullow Centre) is a member of the Curriculum Leaders’ Team led by the Deputy Principal Curriculum. In their role, the Director of Information Services (Tullow Centre) exercises delegated responsibility from the Principal. The Director of Information Services (Tullow Centre) accepts and exercises responsibility for educational activity to optimize student learning and enhance staff professionalism. Collaborating with the College Leadership Team, Curriculum Middle Leaders and staff, and the wider College community, to develop and articulate a vision for Information Services in the Tullow Centre. As a staff member of Brigidine College, the appointed Director of Information Services (Tullow Centre) will be expected to follow and support the Statement of Principles regarding Catholic Education. KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES Spiritual Leadership • Supports and willingly articulates the implications of the College Mission statement. • Actively demonstrates loyalty and support of the Brigidine College ethos, Principal and College Leadership Team. • Works collaboratively with College Leadership team members, teachers and other staff members. • Commits to achievement of personal and professional relationships with parents and the wider community. • Develops ideas gained from professional activities to enhance students’ learning and to promote organisational development. Learning and Teaching Leadership • Provides leadership within the Middle Leadership Team in relation to lifelong learning and pedagogy, for example, resource-based learning, authentic assessment and middle schooling. • Supports lifelong learning skills with teachers and students, providing instruction in information literacy, ensuring that students understand how to use information tools and their outputs ethically and effectively in knowledge understanding and comprehension. • Promotes thinking skills education with teachers and students. • Collaborates to develop contextual learning in a variety of formats, including team teaching, tutorials, online guides and personalised learning options. • Analyse data, information and research to determine areas of success and to review and reflect on areas for improved practice. POSITION DESCRIPTION • Promotes and fosters reading for understanding, enjoyment and discerning literacy development. • Models effective practice in teaching and learning and assists in the promotion of continuous professional growth and development. • Provide leadership, support and encouragement of teachers to develop and transform teaching practices, and learning strategies with Information Services. Information Access and Delivery Leadership • Applies information management practices and systems that are consistent with national standards. • Consults to develop budget proposals that enhance and expand access to resources in all formats for all users, within the needs of the community. • Liaises with relevant teaching staff to ensure that learning resources are considered in the context of the school’s mission statement, goals, policies and curriculum. • Plans to provide access infrastructure for current and future technology, facilitating a just-in-time delivery of information and resources. Tullow Centre Environment Leadership • Welcomes learners to be engaged and challenged according to learning styles, attitudes and aptitudes. • Designs and implements a foundation library program and services to inform professional practice. • Evaluates student learning and library programs, and services to inform professional practice. • Sponsors lectures, exhibits and informed dialogues in the Tullow Centre. Administrative Leadership • Assists staff and students to use the Information Services / Tullow Centre and its resources effectively. • Conducts Information Services / Tullow Centre information session for students and staff. • Works with classes and teachers at all year levels to develop strong information literacy skills during Information Services / Tullow Centre periods throughout the year. • Supervises the acquisition of a broad range of materials to be available for display from booksellers and suppliers to enable subject groups to select appropriate resources. • Leads the supervision of workflows within the Information Services / Tullow Centre staff. • Supervises and oversees the digital Information Services / Tullow Centre facilities. • Develops budget proposals for the Information Services / Tullow Centre as required by the WHS provisions. • Attends Curriculum Middle Leader meetings and works with the Curriculum Middle Leaders to ensure adequacy of resources for student assessment items and work units. • Supervises and keeps a register of students who use the Information Services / Tullow Centre for their learning. • Engages parents and volunteers to support the function of the Information Services / Tullow Centre. • Undertakes any other duties that emerge / are directed by the Principal that pertain to the role. Community Leadership • Develops and maintains a productive and supportive network of relationships with staff, students, parents and the wider College community. POSITION DESCRIPTION • Develops strong community based networks that promote the college’s engagement with Indooroopilly based service groups. • Builds substantive links with colleagues, professional associations and other educational institutions in response to College goals. • Leads curriculum development to foster an appreciation of the world outside the College by developing awareness of and involvement in local and global issues. • Promotes the College as a community of learning and excellence to the wider educational community through contribution at meetings of professional associations. OTHER KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Student Protection • Student protection is everyone’s responsibility. At Brigidine College all persons undertaking work for or on behalf of the College, have a shared responsibility for contributing to the safety and protection of children. All persons are required to be familiar with the content of our Student Protection documents, including but not limited to Policies, Procedures, Codes of Conduct and Guidelines and their legal obligations with respect to the reporting of child abuse. It is each individual’s responsibility to be aware of key risk indicators of child abuse, to be observant, and to raise any concerns they may have relating to child abuse. All individuals are required to fully participate in and understand the content of any training provided. Risk Management • Risk Management is the responsibility of all persons undertaking work for or on behalf of the College. Workers must comply with the risk management roles and responsibilities associated with their position and adhere to Brigidine College’s Risk Management Procedures. Workplace, Health and Safety • Effectively manage occupational health and safety in the business unit by: ensuring all health and safety hazards are effectively identified, assessed, controlled and reviewed; appropriately investigating all workplace incidents and identifying and implementing corrective actions on a timely basis; ensuring appropriate information, instruction and training on health and safety is provided to employees and contractors (where applicable); and ensuring the early identification of workplace injuries and illnesses to promote the effective and timely return to work of injured employees. POSITION DESCRIPTION KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Essential: • A demonstrated commitment to support and promote the philosophy, ethos, traditions and spiritual values of a Catholic school in the Brigidine tradition. • Demonstrated excellence in teaching. • Demonstrated understanding of teaching, learning and assessment, with particular reference to the Australian Curriculum, girls’ education, use of ICT to support teaching and learning and the Dimensions of Learning framework. • Demonstrated ability to drive pedagogical change in Information Management. • Demonstrated leadership for ongoing professional growth and development in Information Management. • A capacity to lead a broad vision of holistic educational practice, initiative, perseverance, acceptance of responsibility, effective organisational skill, ability to engage in professional discourse and to communicate appropriately, and ability to foster cooperation and collegiality. • Ability to research and analyse contemporary Information Services to enhance student learning. • Ability to network with professional associations to identify areas for development and strategic future operations. • Demonstrated excellence in the organisational responsibilities for Information Services. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated collaboration, consultation, negotiation and organisational skills. • Ability to relate professionally to other staff members to provide a role model of successful educational practice and to challenge inappropriate practice at all levels. • An appropriate level of professionalism qualification both formal and informal and/or relevant experience, particularly in the areas pertaining to the designated program. Desirable: • Experience at leadership level in a secondary school. • Previous experience in a similar role. TERM OF CONTRACT Initial appointment is for a period of four years. Re-appointment is subject to successful performance review at the conclusion of the fourth year. After the completion of the second four-year appointment the position will be re-advertised.
