M E M O R I A L H E R M A N N - T E X A S M E D I C A L C E N T E R Pharmacy Residency Class of 2021-2022 PGY1 Pharmacy Residents Kasaandra Ibañez, PharmD Kasaandra.Ibanez@memorialhermann.org Dr. Ibañez, born in Temple, Texas, and raised in Red Oak, Texas, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May of 2021 from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Her practice areas of interest include pediatrics, ambulatory care and pharmacy management. Additionally, Dr. Ibañez has an interest in teaching and plans to complete the Teaching and Scholarship in Academia Program through the University of Houston. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Ibañez is a member of the residency application review committee at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. Her research project is focused on time to blood culture positivity in the NICU. Upon completion of her PGY1 residency, Dr. Ibañez plans to complete a specialized PGY2 residency in pediatrics. Ultimately, she hopes to obtain a clinical position at a pediatric hospital where she can combine her passions for patient care, education and research. In her spare time, Dr. Ibañez likes to read novels, watch musical theater, and spend time with her family. Advisor: Weng Man Lam, PharmD, MS, BCPS, BCPPS Taylor Jaramillo, PharmD Taylor.Jaramillo@memorialhermann.org Dr. Jaramillo, raised in Houston, Texas, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May of 2021 from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Her practice areas of interest include infectious disease, cardiology and transplant. Additionally, Dr. Jaramillo has an interest in teaching and plans to complete the University of Houston teaching certificate. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Jaramillo is a member of the antimicrobial stewardship committee. Her research project is focused on the observation of atrial fibrillation in patients post- lung transplant. Upon completion of her PGY1 residency, Dr. Jaramillo plans to complete a specialized residency. Ultimately, she hopes to obtain a clinical position at a large academic medical center that is associated with a college of pharmacy where she can combine patient care, teaching and research. In her spare time, Dr. Jaramillo likes to spend time with her family, plan her next tropical vacation and watch her favorite TV shows (e.g., “Brooklyn 99,” “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation”). Dr. Jaramillo’s hobbies include painting, walking trails with her dog and strategic napping. Advisor: Melanie Madorsky, PharmD, BCPS, BCCP Carlton Menchaca, PharmD Carlton.Menchaca@memorialhermann.org Dr. Menchaca, born and raised in Houston, Texas, received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May of 2021 from University of Houston College of Pharmacy. His practice areas of interest include emergency medicine and critical care. Additionally, Dr. Menchaca has an interest in teaching and plans to complete the Teaching and Scholarship in Academia program through the University of Houston. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Menchaca is a member of the resident application review committee. His research project is focused on the timing of anticoagulation after recent traumatic and vascular brain injury in patients with DVT/PE and clinical outcomes. Upon completion of his PGY1 residency, Dr. Menchaca plans to pursue a PGY2 in either critical care or emergency medicine. Ultimately, he hopes to become a clinical pharmacist to provide patient care, serve as a preceptor and continue to be a proponent for the profession. PGY1 Pharmacy Residents continued Jonny Nguyen, PharmD Jonny.Nguyen@memorialhermann.org Dr. Nguyen, born and raised in Mounds View, Minn., received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May of 2021 from The University of Kentucky. His practice areas of interest include critical care and emergency medicine. Additionally, Dr. Nguyen has an interest in teaching and plans to complete the Teaching and Scholarship in Academia program through the University of Houston. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Nguyen is a member of the pharmacy social committee. His research project is focused on repeat BAL usage in trauma patients. Upon completion of his PGY1 residency, Dr. Nguyen plans to pursue a PGY2 in one of his clinical interest areas. Ultimately, he hopes to obtain a clinical position at a large academic medical center. In his spare time, Dr. Nguyen likes to play video games and play with his dog, Klio. Advisor: Karen Williams, PharmD, BCPPS Jessica Pham, PharmD Jessica.Pham@memorialhermann.org Dr. Pham, born and raised in Orange County (Anaheim), Calif., received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May of 2021 from the University of California, San Francisco. Her practice areas of interest include emergency med- icine and critical care. Additionally, Dr. Pham has an interest in teaching and plans to complete the Teaching and Scholarship and Academia program with the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Pham is a member of the Opioid Stewardship Committee. Her research project is focused on appropriate time to blood pressure control in patients with hypertensive emergency. Upon comple- tion of her PGY-1 residency, Dr. Pham, plans to complete a PGY2 residency specializing in one of her fields of interest. Ultimately, she hopes to serve as a clinical pharmacist at a large academic medical center where she can combine her passions for patient care, teaching and research. In her spare time (that is, when she isn’t fast sleep), Dr. Pham likes to cook, rock climb and try new foods. Her practice areas of interest include critical care, oncology and internal medicine. Additionally, Dr. Underbrink has an interest in teaching and plans to complete the Teaching and Scholarship in Academia Program at the University of Houston. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Underbrink is a member of the social committee. Her research project is focused on treatment outcomes of ICU patients with Stenotrophomonas maltophilia pneumonia. Upon completion of her PGY1 residency, Dr. Underbrink plans to complete a PGY2 in critical care or oncology. Ultimately, she hopes to obtain a clinical position at a large academic medical center that is associated with a college of pharmacy where she can combine patient care, teaching and research. PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Resident Kelly Walsh, PharmD Kelly.Walsh@memorialhermann.org Dr. Walsh, born and raised in Portland, Maine, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May of 2020 from University of New England College of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 residency at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center and is currently a PGY2 resident in cardiology. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Walsh is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Her research project is focused on vasoactive medication requirements following initiation of veno-arterial ECMO and associated outcomes. Dr. Walsh completed the Enhanced Teaching and Learning Seminar at Northeastern University. Upon completion of her training, Dr. Walsh plans to pursue a clinical position as a CICU pharmacist at a large academic medical center. In her spare time, Dr. Walsh likes to try new food in the Houston area, go to breweries and listen to true-crime podcasts. She completed her PGY1 residency at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and is currently a PGY2 resident in Critical Care. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Brinson is a member of the hospital’s Variance Review Committee, Resident Advisory Committee, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Brinson completed the Teaching and Scholarship in Academia Program through the University of Houston. Upon completion of her training, Dr. Brinson plans to pursue a critical care clinical pharmacist position at a large academic medical center combining patient care, teaching and research. In her spare time, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, cooking and playing video games. She completed her PGY1 residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich., and is currently a PGY2 resident in Critical Care. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. To is a member of Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Clinical Pharmacy and American Society of Hospital Pharmacy. Her research project is focused on unfractionated heparin compared to enoxaparin for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis and mortality. Upon completion of her training, Dr. To plans to pursue a position as a critical care clinical pharmacy specialist at a large academic medical center with opportunities for patient care, teaching and research. PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Resident Allen Kang, PharmD, BCPS Allen.Kang@memorialhermann.org Dr. Kang, raised in Charlotte, N.C., received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May of 2019 from Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his PGY1 residency at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and is currently a PGY2 resident in Emergency Medicine. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Kang is a member of the Emergency Department Nursing Quality Review and The University of Texas Emergency Medicine Quality Assurance committees. His research project is focused on the inappropriate treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria in the emergency department. Dr. Kang completed the Teaching and Scholarship in Academia Program through the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Kang plans to pursue a clinical position at a large academic medical center with opportunities for patient care, teaching and research. In his spare time, Dr. Kang likes to travel, play his guitar and eat great food. Advisor: Heather Hartman, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Resident Satwinder (Sony) Kaur, PharmD Satwinder.Kaur@memorialhermann.org Dr. Kaur, raised in Galveston, Texas, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May of 2020 from University of the Incarnate Word-Feik School of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 residency at TTUHSC Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy, Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth and is currently a PGY2 resident in Infectious Diseases. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Kaur is a member of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee at Memorial Hermann, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. Dr. Kaur completed the teaching certificate program at the TTUHSC Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy. Upon completion of her training, Dr. Kaur plans to obtain an infectious diseases clinical pharmacist position at a large academic medical center combining patient care, stewardship, precepting and research. In her free time, Dr. Kaur likes to try new food options in the Houston area, listen to true-crime podcasts, collect chakra stones, travel and spend quality time with her family and friends. Babic, Pharm.D, BCPS, BCIDP PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Resident Hamsah Saif, PharmD Hamsah.Saif@memorialhermann.org Dr. Saif, born and raised in New York City, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May of 2020 from Long Island University. She completed her PGY1 residency at NYU Langone—Long Island and is currently a PGY2 resident in Pediatrics. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Saif is a member of Pediatric Pharmacy Association (PPA) and Kappa Psi. Her research project is focused on the safety and efficacy of low-dose heparin infusion (10 unit/kg/hr) for thromboprophylaxis in post-cardiac surgery pediatric patients. Dr. Saif completed the teaching certificate program at the St. John’s University College of Pharmacy. Upon completion of her training, Dr. Saif plans to pursue a pediatric pharmacist clinical position in a large academic medical center with oppor- tunities for patient care, teaching and research. In her spare time, Dr. Saif likes to go on hikes and long walks; spend time with her family, friends and two dogs; watch movies; and play volleyball and box. Advisor: Shannan K.
