Keyn tes News for the team members of Cross Keys Village -The Brethren Home Community 9/21/2018 Pastoral Care continues to pray for you. Our As of September 13, there have been focus the next two weeks will be the Sandwich Generation 0 days since our last lost-time injury. on September 24 and Physical Therapists on October 1. International Day of Peace: September 21, 2018 Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme for the International Day of Peace in 2018 is “The Right to Peace – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70.” The theme celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone document in the history of human rights. The Universal Declaration states in Article 3, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.” However, the Universal Declaration does not include a separate article on “Right to Peace.” What does the “Right to Peace” mean to you? How does a Right to Peace relate to God’s dream shown in scripture? It is time all nations and all people live up to the words of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which recognizes the inherent dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human race. What can you do? You can seek peaceful resolution of conflict when disagreements arise around you. You can be part of the solution by taking small steps. You can prevent an injustice in your workplace or in your community by adopting a non-violent approach to problem solving and reporting potential crimes. You can speak up when others are at risk and stand with others’ human rights at work, in the community, and around the dinner table. You can reflect on how each of us can stand up for rights, every day. Human rights ARE everyone’s rights! “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS, FOR THEY WILL BE CALLED CHILDREN OF GOD.” (Matthew 5:9) Beginning in mid-September, there is a hand-out printed on yellow paper located near most timeclocks in the Mission Point building (health care and personal care). The hand-out is also available on the literature cart in the hall outside the Nicarry Meetinghouse and in the Pastoral Care office. It is a two-sided document with “The Right To Peace” poster on one side and a typed document with Bible verses, quotes, and a prayer on the other. Please take a copy and participate in the September 21 International Day of Peace; and please pray for peace every day. Let there be peace on Earth, Lord, and let it begin with me. - Pastor Linda

K 12. Have fun and celebrate successes! THE CROSS KEYS VILLAGE PROMISE in action Today we pay tribute to our Personal Care team in celebration of National Assisted Living week! This annual observance provides a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, team members, volunteers, and local communities to celebrate the individuals served in assisted living and learn more about this sector of long term care. Personal Care Administrator Chucki Long-Emerson, along with members of her leadership team, helped plan and coordinate a week-long series of events and activities for both team members and residents. Pictured are Pam Blount and Barbara Robbins enjoying a delicious lunch during which they gathered to celebrate with other team members and residents. In such moments, we are reminded of the importance of celebrating those who make-up and serve our community. Let us know how you and your teammates keep the Cross Keys Village Promise in action! Value-Added Award Winners! Deb Speelman, Foundation Values: Show Compassion, Celebrate Life, Be Innovative, Work Together Deb was nominated for her outstanding efforts to plan and coordinate a fun resident activity on our Sun Valley neighborhood. Her husband, Greg, accompanied her during the activity and helped by assisting residents prepare corn for canning. Deb and her husband brought the corn and supplies, explained the process and assisted the residents to husk and brush the corn. Residents enjoyed it very much with some mentioning that it brought back memories of when they were younger and would can corn with their families. Thank you Deb and Greg for leading by example and sharing your compassion and hospitality with our residents! Don Wilkinson, Foundation Values: Show Compassion, Work Together When Don heard that a fellow team member was moving to a new home, he immediately offered to assist, knowing that her help would be limited. He and his grandson spent an entire Saturday loading and unloading boxes from one house to the next. He even offered to lend her his truck in the future when she needed to purchase furniture for her new home. Don’s ability to anticipate the needs and well-being of others before his own did not go unnoticed. We are blessed to have such caring and compassionate team members like him at CKV!
K Health Risk Assessments: FAQs What are the Health Risk Assessments? Health Risk Assessments, or more commonly known as the “HRAs,” are health screenings that are conducted annually. These screenings are conducted by Health Fitness, a third party company that provides health testing and consultations. These screens include but are not limited to blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, individually printed results, and personal review and consultation. No need to travel—these screenings are done right on CKV’s campus. How does this impact me? If you participate with CKV’s benefits plan, you have the opportunity to receive $200 in return for signing up through Relias and completing the screenings. If your spouse is on your benefits plan, they can also receive $50 just for attending the screening and completing the testing. Please note your spouse will be considered a “walk-in” so there is no need to sign them up on Relias. You can still sign up for these free screens without the monetary incentive even if you are not on CKV’s benefits plan. Free money?! How do I sign up? Schedule your appointment through Relias.
