WELCOME FROM THE IFOS 2022 CONGRESS PRESIDENT T he Canadian Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is thrilled to host IFOS 2022 in Vancouver, Canada, June 18-22, 2022, promoting the coming together of otolaryngologists and allied health workers to share knowledge and understanding of global OHNS diseases and their treatment in a relaxed and festive environment. “Globalization of Healthcare”, the prospective theme, was envisioned prior to the pandemic and has only increased in relevancy. As we enter the post-pandemic period, we will ensure the meeting’s relevancy to delegates attending from all over the world with educational updates in all areas of our specialty, improving access to care worldwide, plenary sessions on artificial intelligence and machine learning, equity, diversity and inclusion, and the global impact of climate change with personal lived experiences from Canada’s North. With the support of Tourism Vancouver, the Vancouver Convention Centre, MCI Group Canada and many other Vancouver partners, our international guests will experience firsthand all of the incredible facilities, hotels and the beauty that Vancouver has to offer as a sustainable destination. After being isolated for the past few years, attendees will welcome the opportunity to reconnect with friends and colleagues in such a beautiful venue. Canada, for the first time ever, is host to the World Congress of Otolaryngology. Please join us to make IFOS 2022 Vancouver congress a success. Dr. Brian Westerberg Dr. Frederick Kozak IFOS 2022 Vancouver IFOS 2022 Vancouver Congress President Vice President & Scientific Committee Chair Canada ABOUT IFOS The International Federation of ORL Societies (IFOS), was founded in 1965 and it is a non-political organization representing over 61,000 Otolaryngologists belonging to about 118 member nations. IFOS was founded during the Tokyo World Congress of Otolaryngology to provide continuity between World Congresses. “There is a huge global discrepancy in available resources and manpower and this greatly modulates our activity. IFOS grew in response to the need for a single body to collate information about national ORL societies.” https://www.ifosworld.org/ 5
IFOS 2022 PLANS W e are pleased to invite you to support the IFOS 2022 Vancouver, Canada, ENT WORLD CONGRESS, to be held as a hybrid (virtual and in-person) meeting on June 18-22, 2022. While it’s been a long road to get here, the last IFOS event attracted over 8,000 in-person delegates. During this hybrid event, the IFOS 2022 Vancouver edition will also offer the opportunity and resources to network with more than 61,000 members from 124 societies from 118 countries. We have created a flexible and easily transferable offer to help you adapt to your needs. All packages include hybrid participation, allowing you to pick what is more convenient for you. We invite you to participate in the hybrid and on-demand program, which will remain accessible for all participants and sponsors for months following the main meeting dates. By adding the virtual layer to the in-person congress, here are some extra benefits to the hybrid model: • Greater reach: Hybrid events allow companies to reach more of their target audience at once. • Better engagement: Online attendees can network with other online attendees, online attendees can connect with in-person attendees, and in-person attendees can also find and sync with other in-person attendees. • Higher ROI: This will allow sponsors to use comprehensive statistics and optimize the cost/contact ratio, one of the driving forces behind participation in a congress, accessing more accurate data of attendee demographics and session attendance. • Early access to attendee list: Sponsors can typically see who is attending the meeting three days in advance (cannot do this in a face-to-face meeting). • Legacy: Scientific and sponsored content is available on-demand via the virtual platform for up to a year following the event. • Sustainability: Reaching to IFOS network of 61,000+ members from 118 countries without the environmental impact of their travel. WHY ATTEND IFOS 2022 World-class scientific program ensuring relevancy to a global audience Recognition awards and scholarships for young physicians Networking opportunities and outstanding social program Travel grant opportunities Commitment to be part of a sustainable event in Canada’s greenest city 6

Exhibition dates: June 19, 20, 21. MESSAGE FROM IFOS 2022 SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM CHAIR J ust prior to the pandemic in late 2019, we were on our way to organizing IFOS Vancouver 2021. Careful selection of both the Canadian and IFOS/International Chairs and Co-Chairs had taken place. For the subspecialty areas, many committee members had been chosen, along with topics and speakers. Of course, COVID-19 brought everything to a halt and out of respect for the safety and concern of the otolaryngology community across the world, it was inappropriate to proceed. We recognize that we are still not on our way back to normalcy and that many places throughout the world are still struggling to a very significant degree. However, we had to begin to plan again, and we are well on our way for IFOS Vancouver 2022. The logistics in planning an international meeting when there are still unknowns are challenging, and we hope to be able to have a hybrid meeting (combination of an in-person and virtual program) if allowed. Contingency plans are in order to deal with any issues that may arise due to the ongoing pandemic. 10
Subspecialty Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Chairs and Co-Chairs as well as many of their committee members (listed above) from Canada and Internationally from around the world, are back working on topics and speakers to present at IFOS Vancouver 2022. The areas that key leaders in their field will be presenting on include Audiology, Education, Otology/ Neurotology, Head and Neck Surgery, Sleep Medicine and Surgery, Pediatric Otolaryngology, Global Health, Laryngology/Phoniatry, Salivary Disease and Surgery, Vestibular Medicine, Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, Physician Wellness/Health/Diversity, General Otolaryngology and Rhinology/Skull Base/Allergy. The Three Main Plenary Session topics are: • A Planetary Panel on Climate Change; Moderator: Dr. Courtney Howard, Emergency Physician, Community Research Fellow, Planetary Health, Dahdaaleh Institute for Global Health Research, York University • Diversity and its Role in Health Care; Dr. Jocalyn Clark, Executive Editor, The Lancet • Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Otolaryngology; Confirmation of speakers pending. Regardless of their area of focus, every type of otolaryngologist will undoubtedly enjoy these diverse areas that pertain to us all. Many of the subspecialty areas in our field will also have the opportunity to showcase major topics of interest for attendees in Focused Plenary Sessions. Two examples that keep in mind the theme of IFOS Vancouver 2022 “Globalization of Healthcare” are: • “Cochlear Implantation and Other Assistive Listening Devices: Reaching out to all parts of the world so they too can listen.” • “Rhinology and Skullbase Disease: The tried, the true and the new! Where best to be most effective, economical and safe.” Building on past IFOS meetings and the experience of the many members of the scientific program committee, there will be ample opportunity to present in a variety of formats beyond the two types of plenary sessions mentioned above. These include Concurrent Sessions (Lectures, Instructional Courses/How I do it Workshops, Round Table/Panel Symposia, Great Debates/Controversies, International Consensus Conferences, Paper Sessions and Posters.) As Scientific Program Chair, I look forward to presenting a tremendous program for my colleagues around the world, either in person or virtually. Dr. Frederick Kozak IFOS 2022 Vancouver Vice President & Scientific Committee Chair Canada 11
