Doug Brumley was awarded a string of scholarships during his University of Melbourne studies and believes success breeds success. Doug won several awards during his Bachelor of Science honours degree, including support from Newman College. These paved the way to the prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholarship that supported him through his PhD overseas — and helped him land his dream job as a lecturer in applied mathematics back at Melbourne! Doug can now show his students that accumulating awards is a great boost for your confidence and your CV. “Scholarships like these encouraged me to push even further. Working hard for a string of scholarships from the University of Melbourne can help you present yourself well.” Doug’s Melbourne awards include: • Melbourne National Scholarship • Dean’s Prize (Faculty of Science) • Dwight Prize in Physics • Department of Mathematics and Statistics Summer Vacation Scholarship • Professor Nanson Prize (Mathematics and Statistics) 5
