        A Pilgrimage to the Holy Land
                       28th October - 6th November 2019

    I

    the perceptions we had gleaned from

    Our first encounter with Israeli

    Early on the first morning (and we
    were generally up by 6am) we met
    our guide, Nael, a Christian from
    Nazareth, who proved to be very
    knowledgeable, not only of the

  All Saints’ 50th Anniversary

           All Saints’ Church
                           Pointout Road, SO16 7DL

    Sunday 23rd February 2020 @ 10:00am

      Put this date down on your diary, come and celebrate with us!

A
       ll Saints’ building will be turning 50 in February!
        The parish has used a number of different buildings as mission halls
        and churches in the Pointout area of Winchester road since the 1880s
but the building that we now know as All Saints’ Church Centre was
dedicated on 24th February 1970, which means that this February it will
celebrate its 50th birthday. We’re holding a special celebration service on
Sunday 23rd February at 10:00am at which Bishop Debbie, the Bishop of
Southampton will preach and preside; there will also be displays about the
history of All Saints’ Church. In the summer, we hope to hold Community
celebrations too.
Some improvements and updating to the building will be undertaken in
January before the birthday celebrations take place which means that some
groups and some services will not be able to take place while the
redecoration is ongoing. Keep an eye on the news sheet in January for up to
date information!

        Poetry Corner
       The Donkey *
                 by
      Gilbert Keith Chesterton
            1874—1936
When fishes flew and forests walked
And figs grew upon thorn,
Some moment when the moon was blood
Then surely I was born;
   With monstrous head and sickening cry
   And ears like errant wings,
   The devil's walking parody
   On all four-footed things.
                                                 * This poem is shared by Joy Owlett
The tattered outlaw of the earth,
Of ancient crooked will;
Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb,
I keep my secret still.
  Fools! For I also had my hour; Annunciation **
  One far fierce hour and sweet: by
                                                              John Donne
  There was a shout about my ears,
                                                              1572—1631
  And palms before my feet.
                                                 Salvation to all that will is nigh;
                                      That All, which always is all everywhere,
                                 Which cannot sin, and yet all sins must bear,
                                Which cannot die, yet cannot choose but die,
                                         Lo! faithful Virgin, yields Himself to lie
                                 In prison, in thy womb; and though He there
                                Can take no sin, nor thou give, yet He’ll wear,
                        Taken from thence, flesh, which death’s force may try.
                                    Ere by the spheres time was created thou
                              Wast in His mind, who is thy Son, and Brother;
                        Whom thou conceivest, conceived; yea, thou art now
                                 Thy Maker’s maker, and thy Father’s mother,
                            Thou hast light in dark, and shutt’st in little room
                                       Immensity, cloister’d in thy dear womb.
