GENERAL ELECTION Bloom in your new home The May 2nd General Election for the City of Selma has been cancelled. Candidates for the positions of Mayor, City Council Place 2, and City Council Place 3 are unopposed on the ballot. The follow- ing candidates have filed applications, met the require- ments for a place on the ballot, and are declared elected to office: MAYOR: TOM DALY CITY COUNCIL PLACE 2: NOAH WASHINGTON, JR. CITY COUNCIL PLACE 3: BECKY HARRIS SPECIAL ELECTION In response to COVID-19, Governor Greg Abbott issued a proclamation on March 18th allowing local polit- ical subdivisions to postpone elections scheduled for May 2, 2020 to November 3, 2020. Due to concerns over public health, safety, and a shortage of volunteers to work elections on May 2nd, the Selma City Council passed Ordinance Number 040920 at the April 9th City Council Meeting. This ordinance postpones the City of Selma’s Special Election on the reauthorization of a local sales and use tax to provide revenue for maintenance and repair of city streets until November 3, 2020.
