PREMISE
The region of Lombardy organizes the third edition of the Regional Forum
on Sustainable Development, the annual event that gathers the voices
of the Lombard territories and society on sustainability. This edition will

RD allow to account for the work that was done during the legislature, to

involve the several companies which contribute to the achievement of the
2030Agenda goals on the territory and to take inspiration for the work and
vision of the coming years, also thanks to the dialogue with high-profile
DEVELOPMENT institutional figures.
FORUM The social and economic actors will be engaged alongside the different
levels of government, whose collaboration is a key factor with a view to
the sustainable development, as well as the public and private actors
Lombardy, engaged in territorial governance.
the Engine of The Forum is held from 19th to 22nd October, and the day 18th October
Sustainability is dedicated to environmental education. Several related events will take
place in the days before the Forum (Pre-Forum), partly by the Region’s
partners and especially by the signatories of the Regional Protocol for
Sustainable Development.

An initiative promoted by
PREFORUM
Development, which from 28th September to the eve of the Forum will deal with many of the key themes by
dedicating space to focused meetings and discussions.

THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS
Young people, school, university, and research institutions bring their vision and commitment made by
experiences, projects and partnerships, in order to achieve the Agenda2030 goals. Indeed, it is through
training that the challenges of sustainability can become opportunities, according to a principle of
empowerment for the younger generations and workers who will have to update their skills. Through
the exchange of good practices, the places used for education and training activities can increase their
potential to forge innovation and awareness, and to support the creative solutions needed for the future.

PROPSPERITY
The ecosystem of Lombard enterprises has already shown an increasing sensitivity to Sustainable
Development issues, both because they are aware that these are now essential factors for competitiveness in
the markets and because they assumed responsibility for the natural , social and economic ecosystem hosting
them. The sustainability practices adopted in some key supply chains will be the main thread of this session.

The third sector plays a major role in the sustainable development, and it is already indispensable in
providing essential services and for a high quality of life, as well as being a laboratory for the new prosperity

The institutions have the task of guiding the change and giving people the trust and motivation for the
courageous choices that the present time urgently requires. They can do this through a systemic vision

Lombard Forum for Sustainable Development will call on leading institutional figures in the international and

2022 NEW MODELS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND NEW ECONOMIC PARADIGMS
The question of economic models that include factors of sustainability, quality of life, and natural capital in
determining development and well-being, economic and political analysis of a country or region has been
debated for many years.
Recent boost from the evolution of the geopolitical and economic scenario has brought sustainability of
development topic back to the attention of governments and the scientific world.
The topic that we want to address at the final event of the third Regional Sustainable Development Forum is
how this ecological transition can be governed and which models should inspire those who govern it.

As Pope Francis writes: “Economic growth tends to produce automatism and to homogenize. This requires an
RD economic ecology that is capable of leading to a broader view of reality. Environmental protection must be an
integral part of the development process and cannot be considered in isolation.” We believe that His speech
