Pat Becker’s 40 Years of Service Honored at Pineapple Gala The Pineapple Committee and the Faulkner Family acknowledged Pat Becker for her 40-years of active volunteer involvement with the Pineapple Gala. Since turning the event into a dinner/auction 30+ years ago, Pat has taken charge of coordinating the 500+ auction items donated each year. Once gala items are obtained by many wonderful volunteers, Pat records them, labels them, describes them for the evening’s program, and on and on. For many years, Pat’s #1 assistant was Cathy Faulkner. Cathy passed away nearly five years ago, after an 11-year battle with cancer. Cathy's passing was tough on everyone, particularly Pat, who worked along side Cathy for decades. Hogan-Hansen Awarded Trailblazer Award for 40 years of Dedication to Camp Hogan-Hansen was honored at the 2019 Pineapple Gala with this year’s Trailblazer Award. They truly have been trail blazers, from turning Camp’s finances around in 1980 to taking Camp Courageous to the highest level of integrity and good stewardship today. It speaks volumes when the outside agency that knows more about Camp Courageous and its finances than anyone on the outside, and the vast majority on the inside, are also individually, and as a company, some of Camp Courageous’ largest donors. In 1980 a 25-year-old high school teacher came to Camp Courageous to become its director. With virtually no experience he walked into a camp that owed the Monticello State Bank $35,000; money raised to build a new $100,000 indoor pool was spent to make ends meet, it had been without a director for nearly 6-months, and a vendor was in the process of suing the camp for non-payment of bills. Fortunately teachers continue to be paid a salary through the summer. There was an immediate need to professionally audit the camp’s finances, that were composed of camp accounts and special accounts. Camp Board Member, Merle Hennessy, recommended the services of John Botkin, a CPA the Hennessy Construction firm had used for years. Thus was born a relationship that is now into its 40th year. In 1986, Kevin Ballard joined the Hogan - Hansen staff, which would begin the Chair of the Camp Courageous Board of Directors, Jim next chapter to this ongoing relationship between Hogan-Hansen and Camp Foels, presents Jennifer Decker and Kevin Ballard with the Courageous. Now the torch has been passed to Jennifer Decker, who has camp’s Trailblazer Award for 40-years of dedicated service succeeded Kevin as partner following his retirement this year. Camp looks forward above and beyond expectations. to the continued relationship with Hogan-Hansen as we continue to grow. 4 e October 2019 • @campcourageous • www.campcourageous.org

A big thank you to Carter Kramer and Chris Wiese, owners of CELLSITE SOLUTIONS, LLC, for providing a very large crane and staff needed to take down Camp Courageous' 170’+ tower. Also a big thank you to Jason Joens for being the climber who took apart the tower to be brought to the ground. Camp Courageous has used this tower for over 30 years to provide two-way communication and internet service via a dish. With the advent of cell phones, exceptionally good, inexpensive two-way radios, and fiber internet service, there was no longer a need for the tower, but a huge need for the space. Also thank you to the Jones County Ametuer Radio Club for helping throughout this project. Pictured (L-R) Jason Joens and Chris Wiese. K ES OUS Order online!
