What do the both of you have in common?
L. Maurice: Energy. Having it is one thing, but being
able to share it, to convey it to people, to mobilize
the troops, Paul is great at that. After watching him
for many years, I think I’ve managed to tap into
some of this energy, as well.
P. Tellier: Behind my house, there’s a 175-year-

I feared would fall on the roof. Luc said, “We’ll cut
it down, don’t worry. And we’ll get it done before

Out of solidarity for the participants of the Défi Groupe Maurice,
which took place on September 7 in Shawinigan as part of
the Défis du parc, the walking clubs of the Le Groupe Maurice
residences organized several initiatives around the theme of
“healthy aging.” But, their main motivation was the En marche
vers les défis event on August 25, at which all of the Groupe’s
residences walked together. There’s never been so much
buzz surrounding the cause of exercise and the elderly!

SEVERAL INITIATIVES AT THE RESIDENCES
En marche vers les défis rallied the troops by
encouraging the walking clubs to find original ways
to train for the event. The initiative even exceeded
its scope as a recreational event by involving other
professionals from the various sectors, such as the
chefs from some of the residences!

At Le Notre-Dame, for example, cooking workshops
were given on the best snacks to eat for an energy
boost while exercising. For its part, the Station-

Society’s Trottibus initiative, which allows kids to LE NOTRE-DAME | REPENTIGNY

Mr. Toupin, how did you first get into
business with Mr. Maurice?
It all started with a call from a friend, asking me if I’d
meet with someone named Luc Maurice. Investors
are often approached to help people. The ones I
always agree to meet with are people who have
just lost their job or are changing careers, or young
entrepreneurs. In other words, people with drive.

And that was the case with Mr. Maurice?
That’s right. The first thing I asked him was, “But
why do you want to open up a seniors’ home?
There’s nothing exciting about that. And certainly
nothing glamorous!” He answered, “Because I
like seniors.” And for the next two hours, I listened
to him tell me why. I wanted him to prove how
much he liked them. Anyone can say, “I love retired
people.” But I knew he was sincere. He wanted to
make a career of it, and his approach was different.
He wasn’t coming at it from a business angle. He
was thinking like a human being. That’s what made
him different.

For example, in the early days at Les Résidences
du Marché, we realized that the dining room wasn’t
profitable. But, we said, “We don’t care. Would we What do you think makes
