Welcome back! As we return from such a long lockdown you will see on the previous pages that, after twenty hard years spent lovingly creating this hotel and her unique and beautiful theatre, Celia has decided to take much deserved retirement. Please be assured I will continue to own and be involved in the business on a daily basis. You may be assured that myself and the same Kilworth hotel and theatre team, led by our General Manager Elizabeth Payne, who has been with us since the day we opened in 2003, will continue to maintain the same standards and attention to detail at both the hotel and the theatre that you have become accustomed to and deserve. We are all very conscious that Kilworth in all its aspects has become a special place in the hearts of so many and we will continue to do justice to that in every we can. 25 TH MAY - 4 TH J U L Y 2 0 21 CAROUSEL A giant of the musical stage, multi-award winning ‘Carousel’ is a vibrant and timeless story of passion, loss and redemption with some of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most beautiful and enduring songs of all time. Set in 19th Century New England, the poignant story of the faithful Julie and her robust but charming carnival barker husband Billy Bigelow, includes such much-loved classics as ‘Mister Snow’, ‘If I Loved You’, ‘June Is Bustin’ Out All Over’, ‘When The Children Are Asleep’ and the immortal ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. When New York-born Billy Bigelow arrives in the small town on the New England coast, he brings with him chaos and charisma! The carousel is the centre of excitement and romance – matched only by the annual clambake that signifies the arrival of summer – and Billy is quickly hired as a carousel barker at the town fair. Billy’s boss, the mercenary Mrs. Mullin, is irritated when local girl Julie Jordan is attracted to Billy. Detached and footloose, trying to catch Billy is like trying to catch a cloud, but Julie is determined – and willing to sacrifice everything for her man. From the enigmatic love story and the enchanting, energetic clambake, to the heart-warming vow from Billy to restore pride to his family, ‘Carousel’ – voted the greatest musical of the 20th Century – promises to delight and uplift audiences. Arthur Kipps, an orphan and over-worked draper’s assistant at the turn of the last century, is a charming but ordinary young man who, along with his fellow apprentices, dreams of a better and more fulfilling world. When Kipps unexpectedly inherits a fortune that propels him into high society, it confuses everything he thought he knew about life. His childhood companion, Ann Pornick, watches with dismay as Arthur is made over in a new image by the beautiful and classy Helen Walsingham. Helen is always there with helpful hints on how Arthur could improve himself and make his life richer and more meaningful, if only he would believe in himself, and listen to her.
