little vegetables - these bags can be used
for vegetable shopping.

Fire at Chettiar Hall in
Alwarpet: case of sabotage?
Was the fire that burnt a section of Chettiar Hall
on TTK Road in Alwarpet early last Sunday a case of
sabotage?
Local police seem to have arrived at this motive
after they picked up a man who was seen setting the
fire after the police looked at images of a CCTV camera
fitted in this place.
This man seems to have a motive – he was running
a store on the ground floor of the Hall and was asked
by the owner of the Hall to move to the first floor to
make way for another business and he was irked,
fearing loss in his business.
Police say the man may have assumed the fire
would affect only a small section of the Hall but it
engulfed much of it.
Fire tenders had rushed to the spot which is along-
side the flyover near Narada Gana Sabha auditorium
and put out the fire.
People have raised questions on building regula-
tions at this spot, saying it does not have a fire escape
and it flouts many other rules.
MUSIC FESTIVAL
As a part of its 53rd anniversary celebrations,
Mylapore Arts Academy is organising its 23rd music
festival from Oct 21 to 28 at P. S. School, Mylapore.
Dr. Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti will inaugurate the
festival on Oct 21.
The guest of honour is T. Natarajan, vice president,
Carlisle Brakes and Friction. Several artistes
including Abhishek Raghuram, Bhavana Iyer,
Jayanthi Kumaresh (veena) and Damal Perundevi
(upanyasam) will be performing at this event. 6 p.m.

Bhajans and special poojas were held at Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore
on Oct 18 to mark Durga Pooja. The image of the deity was beautifully
decorated with ornaments and huge garlands. Several hundred devotees
gathered in the evening to participate in the aarti held there. Prasadam was
later distributed to all.
On Thursday, a few girls from Lady Sivaswami Girls School, Mylapore
gathered at the school premises to celebrate Ayudha Pooja. R. Vasuki, the
physical education director at the school says, “The ball badminton team
has about 36 players, a few girls decided to drop into the school in the
morning to finish their pooja. Girls from other sports teams completed their
pooja a day before”.
