Wanaka experiences WILD WIRE Experience the highest waterfall climb in the world! You’ll be picked up in Wanaka and driven to the base of Twin Falls Waterfall where you’ll be taught everything you need to know before starting your climb on the Via Ferrata with your guide. You’ll be secured by cable and climb using iron rungs, pegs, bridges and ladders, so you’ll be able to climb routes that may not be accessible otherwise! The best thing is, you need no climbing experience to enjoy a Via Ferrata walkway. Anyone older than 12 years old and who has some level of basic fitness, will love Wild Wire Wanaka. A sample of Wanaka’s BEST activities S TA R G A Z I N G Nestled in the heart of the Southern Alps, the Cardrona Valley offers some of the best conditions on Earth for stargazing. Not only does it have a dark sky with minimal light pollution, but it’s far enough south to have a great vantage point to view the famous Southern sky, and you may even see the Southern Lights! The first part of the tour is a naked eye astronomy tour where your guide will talk about the Southern sky, constellations, movements of planets, and celestial navigation. In the second half of the tour, using their top of the line telescope, you’ll get a chance to see (weather depending): star clusters and nebulae, craters of our Moon, the moons of Jupiter (on the first tour of the night), rings of Saturn, binary stars and other galaxies. Winter fun DOG SLEDDING Let Arctic-bred huskies take you on a thrilling ride along the stunning alpine trails provided by Snow Farm conveniently located between Queenstown and Wanaka. You have the option of simply sitting back and enjoying the sled ride or you can take the reins and drive your own sled! Bookings are essential during the peak periods and pizzas may be ordered to take away. Also at Millbrook Resort is The Millhouse, a fine dining restaurant overlooking the Millpond. The Millhouse is open daily from 6pm and has won awards for both its wine list and dishes. We love visiting The Millhouse for its dessert menu alone! Millbrook also has a modern Japanese restaurant called Kobe. Kobe is open over the July school holiday season, but is closed for winter and re-opens for summer in October. PROVISIONS CAFÉ Brunch and lunch 65 Buckingham Street | +64 3 442 0714 Don’t get us started on how good the caramel and almond sticky buns are – they are an institution in this area. So good in fact that celebrity chefs visit Provisions just to sample them! Seriously good coffee, amazing counter food and hot menu. Provisions is set in a quaint, Arrowtown miner’s cottage with gorgeous garden seating for warmer months. Preserves are a specialty that you will want to take home to your villa. Akarua winery has bought Lake Hayes’ Walnut Cottage which was originally built in 1870.
