Within each category the scholarships are listed alphabetically. • Deadline dates may change so students MUST check the deadline for accuracy. Apply early and keep a copy for your files, in case, you apply for several awards. • To receive updated scholarship & volunteer information please see Ms. Mann-Simpson to add your email onto the Scholarship contact list. Page 4 Group A Descriptions- Selected by School ARBY’S- $500 • prefer student enrolling in field of food science ARTHUR F. KLINGBELL MATHEMATICS SCHOLARSHIP - $500 The Arthur F. Klingbell Scholarships are intended to recognize 2 graduating students from the community of Transcona who have the highest standing in Mathematics. One student from TCI and one from MMCI will be annually selected and awarded this scholarship. • be a resident of Transcona, at least in his/her Grade 12 year • possesses leadership qualities; involvement in community and/or school activities, i.e. a “friend of youth” • highest standing in Math Pre-Calculus • must provide proof of registration in a university program leading to a degree of his/her choice BIRCHWOOD COLLISION CENTRE AWARD- $500 • automotive student attending post-secondary BOB LAND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $750 • a student who through determination and a positive work ethic has overcome personal and educational difficulties, achieved success, turned his/her life around, and will be continuing in a related career • student will be applying to be an apprentice or attending post-secondary CAMBRIAN LEARNING FOR LIFE SCHOLARSHIP – $1000 (rotates amongst RETSD high schools) • academic merit, demonstration of leadership and community involvement, extra-curricular activities, and financial need CAN WEST SUPPLY - $500 • Prefer student enrolling in business post-secondary CUPE LOCAL 4587 RETSD CLERICAL SCHOLARSHIP - $100 • A graduate who will be pursuing studies in a business related field at university or college DAL’S RESTAURANT SCHOLARSHIP - $500 (rotational) • Pursuing a career in culinary or hospitality management; DR. & MRS. MURDOCH MACKAY ENGLISH AWARD - $600 • highest standing in English 40S/AP by a graduating student DR. MURDOCH MACKAY AWARD – 2 @ $1000 • demonstrated good character, and excellent work ethic • leadership qualities through involvement with community and / or school activities • financial need EDDIE SILVER FASHION AWARD - $1000 • for a student who excels in fashion technology EMERGENT BIO SOLUTIONS SCHOLARSHIP- $400
Page 5 ENTERPRISE CENTRAL CANADA - $500 • female or diverse student enrolling in post-secondary FRANCIS AND PETER GLACKEN FAMILY- $1000 • financial need, has overcome challenges, obstacles and barriers FRANCES KUSNER (SHANDRUK) 3 @ $2000 • strong academic achievement - minimum of six Grade 12 courses; evidence of citizenship • must be attending a university in Manitoba FRED & MARY CORNISH AWARD - $750 • Grade 12 student from the four high schools who scores the highest grade in English 40S Course • Pursuing his/her education at the post-secondary level FRIESEN’S YEARBOOK AWARD- $300 • Involved in the production of the school’s yearbook GEOFF & REGAN ARCHAMBAULT CENTURY 21 AWARD- $500 • no specific criteria GOVERNOR GENERAL’S BRONZE MEDAL • Presented to the graduating student with the highest academic standing in a minimum of 5 Grade 12 courses, at least 4 of which must be at the University entrance 40S/AP level • Nominees selected by School Administration JOSEPH ROMEO SCHOLARSHIP- $500 • Financial need • Must be pursuing post-secondary studies • Sole financial award given to student KONRAD SHANDRUK FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP- 2X $4000, paid over 4 years • No specific criteria LIFETOUCH – 2 @ $150 + gift • Recognition of effort taken by a student, with barriers to their learning, to graduate LINDA ELKE MEMORIAL STAFF AWARD- $500 • Hardworking student who has faced learning difficulties • Someone who may otherwise go unrecognized at Convocation • Going onto post-secondary education LINDON BARRETT LITERARY AWARD – 2 @ $750 • Financial need • Good attitude; helpful relationships with students & staff • Good academic record; ideally studying English, Arts or Journalism with a love of literary works MARY ANDREE MEMORIAL AWARD - $1000 • Rotates between the 3 high schools in Transcona • Excellence in academics, strong work ethic • Financial need

TANDY MEMORIAL AWARD - $500 (rotational) • Worked hard to overcome challenges; persevered to graduate MURDOCH MACKAY SILVER CELEBRATION AWARD - $500 • be a graduate of Murdoch MacKay Collegiate Institute • complete one full year of study at a post-secondary institute of learning on his/her first attempt • accepted for a second year of study at a post-secondary institute of learning, award payable to institute • Applicant’s history of involvement in school, community and work activities will be a major consideration of the Selection Committee. • Deadline: applications mailed to previous year graduates and/or are available at Murdoch and should be submitted by May 31st in year of eligibility MURDOCH MOTORPORTS SCHOLARSHIP - $1000 • High scholastic achievement throughout 4 years in Automotive Technology Program • Attainment of the Manitoba Education and Training 1st level Motor Vehicle Mechanic Apprenticeship • Participation in the Murdoch Motorsports club NAN SHIPLEY AWARD WRITING AWARD - $150 • student must have demonstrated an interest and talent in writing proficiency in the English language, through composition, literature, poetry, drama PETER & IRENE TYCHONICK MEMORIAL AWARD - $500 • Deserving graduate who will be pursuing a post-secondary education • Student demonstrates hard work and initiative • Satisfactory academic achievement • Financial need is a consideration PRAXAIR AWARD – gift • Grade 12 student with the highest mark in welding; must be completing a vocational or dual diploma RETSD- GEORGE MARSHALL CITIZENSHIP AWARD -$750 • Demonstrated contributions to the school in a citizenship capacity (socially responsible activities and/or organization) • Assistance with school-based activities; School behavior and attendance are exemplary • Contributions in community as a volunteer RETSD- MOST IMPROVED STUDENT AWARD- $750 • Student has made significant improvements (in comparison to previous years) in at least 2 of the following areas: o Attendance o Academic performance o General behaviour & cooperation with school expectations o Contributions to the school’s extracurricular program
Page 7 RETSD- MARY ANDREE HUMANITARIAN AWARD- $750 • Displayed outstanding contributions to improving the lot of those less fortunate both in the school & community setting - such contributions to be exhibited in a formally organized activity or evident in consistent compassionate and responsible behaviour • Has exhibited a pattern of selfless contribution without necessarily seeking adulation or attention RETSD- ROBERT FRASER LEADERSHIP AWARD- $750 • Demonstrated successful leadership of school-based organizations and/or activities • Has exhibited self-reliance and has initiated steps leading to successful school activities and/or committee work • Has demonstrated successful leadership in out-of-school volunteer endeavors RIVER EAST TRANSCONA SCHOOL DIVISION MEDALS A. Gold Medal and cash award of $2500 Presented to the top graduating RETSD student, as determined through interviews of the top candidate selected from each high school. Winner has excelled primarily on academics, leadership and character; and secondly, on involvement in school and community activities and relationship with staff and students. B. Silver Medal 5 @ $1500 Presented to the runner-ups to the Gold Medalist RIVER EAST TRANSCONA TEACHERS ASSOCIATION- $1250 • Sole financial award given to student; above average standing • Exhibit exemplary character; demonstrate leadership skills; financial need • Registered for full time studies in a post-secondary institution ROTARY CLUB OF TRANSCONA - $500 • Good student, public service & volunteer activities in Grade 12 year-no other scholarships SANT & JAMIAT KHANUJA - $200 • High academic standing; • School or community involvement STEINBACH CREDIT UNION - $500 • Pursuing post-secondary studies STELLA WUJEK (nee SHANDRUK) SCHOLARSHIP FUND - 2 @ $2500 • Graduating Murdoch MacKay student who is pursuing post-secondary education in Manitoba • Reasonable academic standing and financial need TRANSCONA JAYCETTES ORATORICAL - $200 • Public speaking award UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA CHOWN CENTENNIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1000 • academic excellence (minimum average of 80%) • attendance at U of M in September
