WELCOME ADDRESS
Assalamualaikum and Greetings from the Malaysian Paediatric Association
(MPA).
On behalf of the MPA & the organising committee, it gives me great pleasure to
invite you to our 40th MPA Annual Congress from 5th - 8th September 2018 at the
Ipoh Convention Centre, Perak.
The congress theme is “Marginalised Children - Addressing The Needs. Leaving
No Child Behind Towards SDG.”
Our focus on hard core paediatrics has not infrequently sidelined our attention
to the needs of marginalised children. As advocates for the rights and welfare of
every child we must rectify this imbalance. Thus the choice of this year congress
theme on our 40th anniversary.
Gen-J paediatricians, Datuks Zulkifli, Amar and their committee of Gen-Y
paediatricians will make sure that both the Millennial MOs, trainees, nurses and
Jurassic paediatricians would be dumbstruck by the multiple issues besetting
the marginalised child. And part of the failures, I am afraid lies within our
fraternity! It is time we address the needs of the marginalised child promptly
and equitably and leave no child behind in our march towards the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDG). Experts from international health agencies, key
NGOs, academia and community paediatricians will share their insights into the
issues of marginalised children and strategise the way forward.
Notwithstanding, there will be hard core paediatrics discussing endocrinology,
immunology, vaccinology, palliative paediatrics, pain management, neurology
and developmental paediatrics!
Since its our 40th year, you can look forward to both a scintillating scientific
programme and a most exhilarating social programme. And to make it even
more enjoyable and celebratory, DYMM Raja Permaisuri Perak has consented to
grace our opening ceremony.
Our MPA Congress Dinner promises to be like last year’s fun affair at Shangri La
- even better our Ipoh-mari guys promise!
And don’t forget to find time, to explore the beautiful city of Ipoh and her
surroundings.
