CLUSTER ENGAGEMENT “A PILOT PROJECT” Kumarin Chellakooty (PMP, Prince2, AgilePM) Acting VP Cluster Engagement VPCluster_Engagement@PMI.Org.za Cluster Engagement – Member Benefits 6 JUNE 2021 11
Introduction Kumarin Chellakooty Acting VP Cluster Engagement (recently appointed) Newly Formed Portfolio – Complete a Pilot Project Presentation Purpose: to answer the question “What is the Cluster Engagement Portfolio about and How will the Portfolio Benefit Members ??” Agenda –> Background –> Structure –> Benefits –> Pilot Project Cluster Engagement – Member Benefits 6 JUNE 2021 12
Background – Why? - Pandemic resulted in new ways of working - Could not hold Monthly Meeting that enabled o Networking – In Person o Knowledge dissemination o Chapter event and activity announcements - Virtual monthly webinars replaced benefits 2 and 3 above, - Networking became a gap Transformation Process led to the idea that PMI could facilitate small groups of members to interact / network whilst complying with restrictions on group gatherings Cluster Engagement – Member Benefits 6 JUNE 2021 13

Expected Cluster Activities Meetups – virtual / in-person • Discussions around PM topics e.g latest webinar reviewed, much like a book club; synopsis of a resource • Share personal work challenges • Discuss PMI related business • Share resources • Engage with PM / Topical Expert – can be another PMI Member (expert / test talk) • CSR Projects Cluster Engagement – Member Benefits 6 JUNE 2021 16
Benefits Desired • Networking – more significant as few people are getting to know each other – more intimate setting / interactions hence better-quality networking and engagement • Group can drive interactions / engagements / activities that suit and interest that small group i.e. big groups require many to fit in with the general consensus (the average man) • Members input energy / drive into process rather than PMI leadership (bottom-up vs top-down process) • CSR projects (social responsibility initiatives) can be undertaken very relevant to that group’s locality e.g. a bridge restoration program; community support after an event e.g. squatter camp fire - making the CSR projects more meaningful to the member cluster as it is “close to home” so to speak Cluster Engagement – Member Benefits 6 JUNE 2021 17
Benefits Desired • Use clusters to support each other e.g. spouse’s employer moves spouse to Durban Office therefore family moves - Durban clusters can help me find opportunity, relocation services etc - Members in different areas can support each other as communications can be more direct; or my company is starting a project in Durban and we are looking for a contract PM • Solution to create more personal interactions e.g. monthly meeting has 100 attendees, cannot meet all in melee’ of people, but cluster is 10 people that meet on several occasions can get to know each other well • Create Membership Culture of Engagement + Networking + Self Driven Create a “NEW” Dimension that creates new value to membership Cluster Engagement – Member Benefits 6 JUNE 2021 18

Nelson Mandela CHILDREN’S FUND
