5,000 years of Ayurvedic treatment has proven Garcinia Cambogia to be an "All Star" performer
in the weightloss arena. Garcinia Cambogia can be truly stated as a “miracle diet pill” with little to
no side effects if used within guidelines.

Garcinia Cambogia

Garcinia Cambogia originated in Ayurvedic medicine in India. Garcinia
cambogia works to reduce the accumulation of liquid in fat cells. It can also
inhibit cravings and curb appetite. Garcinia cambogia has the ability to
lower lipid levels. Lipid is the hormone that regulates hunger by signaling
your body when you feel full. If lipid levels are too high, your body feels
hungry and you eat. By taking Garcinia Cambogia, your body retains the
"I'm full" message longer. Garcinia Cambogia is sold as a tea, in a tincture or
as a capsule.

History of Ayurvedic Treatment
For the past few decades, the field of medicine has been largely influenced by the medical philosophy of the Western world.
The emphasis of Western medicine has been predominately curative, relying on chemical preparations and invasive surgery
as means of treatment.

In contrast, Eastern medical and therapeutic philosophy focuses on the more metaphysical side of human illness and
treatment. Its practice is hinged on the use of a variety of methods ranging from the use of medicinal plants and herbs,
massage, acupuncture, aromatherapy, pulse reading, and other alternative healing methods. These methods are now
gaining acceptance in modern societies due to the increased awareness of the healing arts of China and India. There are
volumes of literature on traditional Chinese medicine. But another deserving of wide recognition are the folk remedies and
traditional practices of India which are also ancient and effective.

Ayurveda, a healing system native to India, is a centuries-old practice that has recently been given attention by Western
science. Ayurveda is a traditional holistic healing. Translated from Sanskrit, Ayurveda means ‘the science of life’. ayur means
“life” and veda means “science.

Like traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda practitioners adhere to a particular medical philosophy that regards illness as
an imbalance in the body and influenced by internal and external factors, similar to the Chinese principles of yin and yang.
Ayurveda also takes into consideration a patient’s emotions and state of mind alongside the study of infections that make
the body sick. It places a high importance on the patient’s sense of taste and diet.

In Ayurveda, it is believed that the healing of a person must take into consideration three elements found in nature: air,
water, and fire. Each of these elements has a deep philosophical background. These elements also govern the major
functions of the body. Ayurvedic theory rests on the belief that the balance of the three elements is the basis of health. Any
imbalance, blockage, or weakening in these elements causes illness. It is the task of the Ayurveda practitioner to determine
and restore the patient’s elemental harmony. In other words, an infection or ailment is the result of an imbalance in the

patient’s natural internal or elemental harmony. These imbalances can be caused by internal or external factors, and may
be aggravated or alleviated by the patient’s emotional state and, in some cases, mental health.

The primary concept of Ayurveda is that the restoration of imbalances in the body requires a very personalized concept.
Treatment can involve the use of natural oils, minerals, herbs, metals, and even animal ingredients. Similar to how herbal
medications are administered in traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda medications are given base formulas that are
modified by the physician according to the patient’s needs. This process makes getting a treatment for an infection different
from Western medicine, where the formulas are constant and only the dose is altered based on the patient’s metabolism
and constitution. As mentioned earlier, diet and taste play a central role in Ayurveda. However, unlike Chinese medicinal
doctrine, the taste and quality of the food plays a much larger role in traditional Indian healing arts. Different tastes
correspond to different conditions in the body. These tastes are taken into account by an Ayurveda physician before
prescribing an appropriate treatment. For example, food with a bitter taste is generally considered to cool the body, dry out
moisture, and work to remove toxins. This concept also extends to the herbal and animal ingredients that are used in
Ayurveda medication.

Ayurveda also prescribes a particular form of massage known as “Panchakarma” for the treatment of emotional distress.
This practice is highly similar to acupuncture except that no needles are used. The strokes, presses, and body manipulations
used in Panchakarma supposedly stimulates energy flow throughout the body, a process that is necessary to ensure good
health. Problems arise when the energy flow is disrupted, clogged, or stalled. Massage is often prescribed in conjunction
with a diet plan and herbal remedies to relieve problems such as sinusitis, conditions associated with stress and anxiety, and
other problems that Ayurveda practitioners see as symptoms of emotional disharmony rather than just purely physical
ailments.

Ayurveda Principles and Theory
Ayurveda system is the prominent user of herbs and its basic theory revolves round imbalance and vitiation of three humors
(Doshas).

Ether (Akash), Air (Vayu), Fire (Agni), Water (Jal) and Earth (Prithvi) are the great five elements which underline all living
systems. These elements are constantly changing and interacting and can be simplified into three Vitiations (Doshas). When
these doshas remain in harmony and balance, the health of the body does not get disturbed but, when the balance gets out
of whack, a diseased state sets in.

The three doshas are vata (Wind), Pitta (Bile) and Kapha (Phlegm) and due to predominance of the one dosha, a person’s
personality is determined that is ‘ Vata-Prakriti’, ‘Pitta- Prakriti’ or ‘Kapha Prakriti’

Vata formed from ether and air, governs all movement in the mind and body and must be kept in good balance.

Pitta formed from fire and water, governs “all heat, metabolism and transformation in the mind and body

Kapha formed from earth and water, cements the elements in the body, providing the material for physical structure

Each person has an individual blend of the three doshas, with one or sometimes two doshas predominating.

Common Herbs used in Ayurvedic Medicines
Vrikshamla (Garcinia cambogia or indica)

A combination of calorie dense food and sedentary lifestyle is
fueling the obesity epidemic. Billions of dollars are spent each
year on dieting and consuming anti-obesity supplements.
However, only a handful of nutritional supplements deliver result
without producing any adverse side effect. Vrikshamla or Garcinia
cambogia supplement is one of those few effective herbal anti-
obesity supplements that support weight loss without harming
your health.

Garcinia’s effect is to promote the body’s ability to turn over-supply of carbohydrates into fat and augment calorie-burning.
It is well known since ancient times to be able to subdue the appetite, slowing down the process of converting excess
carbohydrates into fat. In this process, it will build additional stores of body energy (glucose).

*Researchers have found Garcinia to be helpful by inhibiting fat storage and being active as an appetite suppressant,
burning fat via a process called as thermo-genesis.

See special section below - Weight Loss Through Thermogenesis

Amalaki (Amla or Indian Gooseberry or Emblica officinalis) – The fruit is reputed to have the highest content of vitamin C
of any natural occuring substance in nature. It maintains balance amongst three doshas and effectively controls digestive
problems, strengthens heart, normalises cholesterol, prevents cancer, builds up and sustains defense mechanisms,
improves eye-sight and detoxifies the body.

Amla is said to have 20 times more vitamin C than orange. The vitamin C content of amla is between 625mg – 1814mg per
100gms. Other studies show that amla increases red blood cell count and hemoglobin. A research tem discovered that
when Amla is taken regularly as a dietary supplement, it counteracts the toxic effects of prolonged exposure to
environmental heavy metals, such as lead, aluminium and nickel.

Ashwagandha (Winter Cherry or Withania Somnifera)- Ashwagandha is one of the main herbs for promoting ojas and
rejuvenating the body in Ayurveda. It is a well known semen promoter and it treats impotency and infertility.

Clinical studies show that Ashwagandha has antibacterial, antitumor, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating properties.
The strong anti-stress actions, increases memory and learning capabilities. It has also found to be useful in Rheumatic and
Arthritic disorders like pain, swelling etc.

Summing up, it is a strong Aphrodisiac and has Immunomodulating, anti- inflammatory, anti tumor and anti stress
properties which clearly shows why Ayurveda has such a high opinion of this herb as a general tonic.

Arjuna (Terminalia Arjuna) – It is a cardiac tonic of high quality. Terminalia arjuna, is known to be beneficial for the
treatment of heart ailments since 500 BC. Clinical research has indicated its usefulness in relieving anginal pain, and in the
treatment of coronary artery disease, heart failure, and possibly hypercholesterolemia.

Brahmi (Bacopa, Gotu Kola) – Brahmi is known as “the food for brain”. Traditionally Brahmi is used as a mental tonic, to
rejuvenate the body, as a promoter of memory and as a nerve tonic. It promotes a calm, clear mind, and improves mental
function.

Modern Research claims that Brahmi improves memory and helps overcome the negative effects of stress. Brahmi is
especially suitable for students as it enhances the minds ability to learn and to focus and for an elderly person hoping to
regain their memory. It is unique in its ability to invigorate mental processes whilst reducing the effects of stress and
nervous anxiety.

As a nerve tonic, Brahmi has been used to help those affected by stroke, nervous breakdown or exhaustion and Attention
Deficit Disorder. The best Ayurvedic brain and memory formulas contain Brahmi, as do many of the long life promoting
compounds.

Guggulu (Shuddha Guggulu, Guggul, Commiphora Mukul) – Modern Research shows that it is the prime Ayurvedic herb for
treating obesity and high cholesterol. Studies show that guggulu lowers serum cholesterol and phospholipids, and that it
also protects against cholesterol- induced atherosclerosis. Guggulu were seen to lower body weight in these clinical studies.

Guggulu also as anti-inflammatory properties and is effective in treating arthritis and other joint pains.

Karela (Bitter Melon, Bitter Gourd, Momordica Charantia) – At least three different groups of constituents have been
reported to have blood sugar lowering actions in bitter Mellon. These include a mixture of steroidal saponins known as
charantin, insulin-like peptides, and alkaloids. Scientific studies have consistently shown that bitter melon lowers blood
sugar level of Type 2 Diabetes.

It could probably reduce the patient’s intake of anti-diabetic drugs. Also Bitter Melon has two proteins which are thought to
repress the AIDS virus.

Recently, the Department of Health in the Philippines has recommended bitter melon as one of the best herbal medicines
for diabetic management.

Neem (Azadirachta Indica) – Neem is an extraordinary blood purifier, good for all skin diseases like acne, eczema, psoriasis
and teeth and gums. Neem is included in most Ayurvedic Skin products because it is as effective on an external application
as through internal indigestion.

In Ayurveda it has been safely used for over five thousand years and provides a good immunity booster to prevent colds,
fevers, infections and various skin diseases.

Shilajit (Mineral Pitch, Asphaltum) – Shilajit is one of the prime Ayurvedic compounds for rejuvenating the body. it is an
aphrodisiac, anti-aging herb and is also used to treat diabetes and debilitating urinary problems.

The Charaka Samhita states that a person must use shilajit for a minimum of one month before starting to realize the
regenerating effects. It is also used to treat impotency and infertility. it is well known that Shilajit can return the libido of
people to the level of teenagers.

There is a folk saying by the indigenous people who live in the Himalayan region that Shilajit makes the body strong as a
rock. It is an adaptogen, (Rasayna), that helps to combat immune disorders, urinary tract disorders, nervous disorders and
sexual dissatisfaction.

Shallaki (Boswellia Serrata, Salai Guggul) – Modern Research indicate that the Boswellia herb may assist in treating joint
mobility, pain, and may be a useful remedy for a variety of inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and
osteoarthritis. A recent clinical trial suggests positive effects of Boswellia serrata extract in knee osteoarthritis.

Boswellia has also been found to be useful for a number of other disorders and best for treating Back Pain, Knee Pain, Joint
Pain and Arthritis. This herb has also been proposed as a possible therapy for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Triphala (Amalaki, Bibhitaki, Haritaki) – Triphala has the properties of three famous nutrients: amla, haritaki and bibhitaki.
The advantage of this formula is that it is milder in action and more balanced than any of the three alone.

It has cleansing and detoxifying action. Used regularly it is good for gentle, slow detoxification of the digestive tract and
then the deep tissues. It also has the ability to normalize all three humors with continued use.

As a daily supplement triphala is hard to beat - that’s why in India they say “even if your mother leaves you, everything will
be fine if you have triphala”.

Tulsi (Holy Basil, Ocimum Sanctum) – Its very name - Holy Basil - certifies to its sacred nature. It is a sacred plant
worshipped in many Indian homes and is a must in every Hindu’s house.

                           *Weight Loss Through Thermogenesis*
Thermogenesis simply means the creation of heat. When we create heat, we burn calories (Kilojoules) and this
can actually decrease our weight. Any substance that stimulates the resting or basal metabolic rate (BMR) and
raises the bodies temperature is called a thermogenic agent. After centuries of use, we now know that
thermogenesis stimulates of brown fat to burn off white fat and this can directly stimulated by certain herbs.

A substance known as norepinephrine (noradrenaline) is produced by the body in response to signals carried by
the sympathetic nervous system. When the norepinephrine enters the brown fat, it activates thermogenesis (the
fat furnace) to begin burning off thousands of calories. But if only a tiny amount of norepinephrine is released,
the corresponding brown fat burned off is also tiny.

The Chinese found the herb Ma Huang to be a source of ephedra (ephedrine). Ma Huang excites the sympathetic
nervous system, which causes vaso-constriction of the nasal mucosa, bronchodilation and cardiac stimulation.

Other herbs or herbal extracts have the ability to excite the sympathetic nervous system and stimulate fat
burning. These act by stimulating both alpha and beta adrenergic receptors (in simple terms switching the right
chemical switches inside your body). This then increases the metabolic rate and fat is burned. Brown fat is
reluctant to burn protein for fuel so 90% of the fuel you burn from that moment on is pure, ugly fat.

Nature has supplied an even better chemical switch, that is
natural and found in a fruit.

The fruit of Citrus Aurantium (bitter orange) is that chemical
switch and it has the potential to induce weight loss, increase
physical performance, and improve lean muscle mass. Only
recently, Dr Dennis Jones, MA., Ph.D., discovered that, in
certain stages of maturity of bitter orange a rare combination
of five adrenergic amines (natural plant substances)~
Synephrine, N-methyltyramine, Hordenine, Octopamine, and
Tyramine are present in the fruit.

These function not only to stimulate weight loss, but also to
increase physical performance.
In a recent study (Carpene et al , April 1999) it was shown that Octopamine is a specific activator of the beta3-
andronergic receptor. So what does this mean to thermogenesis?

The first select natural plant chemical switch that stimulates the loss of fat!

So what else can you take to speed up weight loss or help a sports person reach their ideal muscle to fat ratio.
Well, gurana (Paullina cupana) is a well known stimulant that is known to enhance fat breakdown and also
increase metabolism. This in combination with Garcina cambogia, the best natural source of Hydroxy Citric acid
(HCA) will greatly enhance the weight loss properties of a thermogenic supplement. HCA converts carbohydrates
into glycogen rather than fat, this in turn enhances stamina and eventually acts on the brain center where
appetite is controlled leading to appetite suppression, which helps with over eating and unnecessary weight gain.
Clinical trials have also demonstrated the ability of HCA to decrease body fat without losing protein or lean body
mass, two features that are of prime importance to sports people.

As we’ve already seen, Ayurveda is the essence of old Hindu
medical techniques, which are based on the curing of the
diseases from the roots.

Allopathic techniques (western) are based on the concept of
sudden and instantaneous relief, so often the patient gets
rid of his problem for a short period, but the origin of
disease is not eliminated, leading to the probability that, in
future, the original problem can return – perhaps more
actively than before. Allopathic techniques uses antigen that
introduces a chemical, having the opposite effect of what
the body is desiring. So there is always a risk with the power
and supplied quantity of the drug.

On the other hand, Ayurvedic Medicare is based on natural
and herbal techniques and supplements, which are mostly
side effect free. Ayurveda does not believe in antidotes and
antigens and very rarely those techniques are used.
Ayurveda works not to suppress the body’s system, but to
go to the origin and cure the basic disturbing element. In
such treatments there are very low chances of side effect
and the benefit to the body is long-lasting. It gives you a
complete health treatment, which works on the entire body
system making you feel better in all areas.

Most of the supplements of Ayurveda are essence of fruits, vegetables and jadi-booties, which are nature’s gift to
humans. Jadi-booties are some of the rarely found wild plants and fruits, which are very effective in some
diseases. In ancient times, students of Ayurveda were taught the classification of every single kind of plant that
existed. They used to spend endless time looking for those jadi-booties in jungles, rocks and mountains.

In the modern age of globalization some companies and groups are doing that work collectively, so now it is
much easier and cheaper for us to use those techniques which were once very costly, even for the kings.
Ayurvedic techniques are developed in ashramas of Hindu saints and researchers. This medicare is the result of
long time, generation-to-generation research work. It is well tested and well proven in the history of India - one
of the world’s oldest cultures.

In our modern age, where pollution and the effects of toxic poisons are disturbing the body systems and people
are getting weaker due to our more sedentary lifestyle - Ayurveda, along with yoga and exercise is the way to
have a healthy body and a sound mind.

Taking into account all the benefits of Ayurveda and the many patients having received positive results from
Ayurvedic treatment, we can expect a large rise in the popularity of Ayurvedic medicines in the forthcoming years
with particular attention placed on the beneficial fruits such as Garcinia Cambogia.

                                            And so – to finalise.
I realise this has been rather long-winded but I believe it’s important to understand the long history of the
ancient Ayurveda treatment system and the magical part played by HCA - the Garcinia Cambogia fruit extract.
