1.- A FEW HANDY THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE MIBA

A unique project

The miba is the Barcelona Ideas and Inventions Museum. It is the first museum
of its kind in the world.

Visiting the miba is a stimulating experience that awakens creativity and gets
the visitors thinking. Everyone that walks through the door will feel the need to
put their ideas into practice.

Created by the prestigious inventor and writer Pep Torres, the miba is a solid,
coherent and long-standing project.

An exceptional setting

A project of this calibre required an exceptional location. The miba is located in
the heart of Barcelonaʼs main tourist district: calle Ciutat 7, a few metres from
Plaza Sant Jaume.

We are convinced that the miba will be an icon of a new creative and innovative
Barcelona that believes in the culture of entrepreneurship.

A completely renovated, historical building

The miba is housed in one of Barcelonaʼs historical 19th century buildings. It
covers 600m2 and has two floors (upper and lower). The space has been
completely renovated over the last few months and used to be the headquarters
of the PSUC (Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia) and the Iniciativa per
Catalunya Verds (Initiative for Catalonia Greens) political parties.

The lower floor has impressive stone arches and vaulted ceilings measuring
over five metres in height.

The renovation work has incorporated the original architecture, whilst converting
the premises into a modern, high-tech and avant-garde space which is sure to
impress anyone who steps through the door.

The miba is an entirely private enterprise

Pep Torres has turned his dream into a reality: to open a space in Barcelona
dedicated entirely to inventions and ideas.

The miba is an entirely private enterprise. The project would not have been
possible without the participation and collaboration of its sponsors.

No public subsidy has been sought at any time for the project, and nor will it be
in the future.

The miba is a project by and for entrepreneurs

The Museum is the result of the efforts and enthusiasm of one entrepreneur.
Pep Torres is convinced that this spirit can and will be passed on to other
entrepreneurs.

The miba hopes to receive 50,000 visitors in 2011, although the aim is to triple
this number over the coming years. The initial investment has been 350,000
euros, a modest sum for a project of this magnitude, but which has been
carefully managed to create a modern, original and competitive museum

2.- INFILTRATED IDEAS (the interior decor of the miba)

The unique nature of the Museum also needs to be conveyed in its set up. It
was an essential requirement that the facilities had lots of character. Prestigious
architects and designers have been involved in the renovation of the premises.

The miba, which is an invention in itself, contains unique architectural elements
that transmit messages. These are the infiltrated ideas. The Museum always
communicates with the visitor using metaphors related to team work, creativity,
zero fear, and innovation.

The following are some of the infiltrated ideas:

Giant slide
An essential element of the mibaʼs interior decor is the giant metal slide located
on the ground floor, which is used to access the lower floor. The metaphor is
clear: sometimes in life, you just have to jump on.

The periscope

There will always be sceptical people who will wonder if it is worth visiting the
museum. The periscope is the answer. This tool can be used to see some of the
secrets housed in the miba before purchasing an entry ticket.

Video screens in the toilets

The toilet facilities in the miba detect the presence of people and play an
unusual video (made with the very special collaboration of El Tricicle).

Voice amplifier zones

Thanks to the stone arches incorporated into the ceiling on the lower floor, there
are specific points at which an impressive acoustic effect makes our voices ring
out in a very special way. These points are marked on the floor so the visitors
can try it out for themselves. There are five voice amplifier zones.

The museum contains other infiltrated ideas that the visitor will uncover during
their visit.

Mini miba

The relaxation zone at the miba has been specially designed with children in
mind. This zone is where the mini miba competition will be held, which involves
drawing and describing an invention. Kids bewteen 5 and 12 years old will
imagine and draw an inventions. The entries will be collected at the end of the
month and we will select 3 winners who will be awarded with a free patent. A
professional team will build a prototype of each winner. At the end of the year
we will exhibit the winners prototypes around the world.

3.- THE MOST ORIGINAL AND UP-TO-DATE COLLECTIONS

Inventions to make you think, inventions to make you laugh, revolutionary
inventions, absurd inventions, inventions from Barcelona and inventions from all
over the world. The miba is a must for anyone who wants to be up-to-date on all
the latest trends, inventions and creations. For questions of coherence and
conviction, the Museum will not exhibit historic inventions. The first light bulb
and the first mobile telephone deserve our respect and admiration, but they will
not be found at the miba.

The Museum has 5 spaces which all play a specific role.

1.The Futour collection

Awarded the prestigious City of Barcelona prize in 2006, Futour looks at the
imaginary everyday objects that we will be using in 2300. All the items have
been created and built by Pep Torres and look so realistic that people often
think that they actually work.

The exhibition was opened at the FAD in Barcelona and toured all over Spain.
The press attention was phenomenal (please see www.fu-tour.com). The writer
Quim Monzó wrote an article about the exhibition entitled ʻViva Pep Torresʼ

                                                               Pep Torresʼs speech at
                                                               the Barcelona City

Some of the Futour inventions:

Just In Case Suitcase. Thanks to its three
atmospheres of pressure system it can
hold… 90% of the clothes in your

                                         Plant ʻoʼ matic. This ingenious
plant pot moves around on its own
                                         in search of the sun.

Mumless clinics. The Mumless
clinics will provide parents with
perfectly healthy babies after
nine months. Pregnancy will be
a thing of the past.

2. Corner of the Absurd (the fun side of inventions)

This is a selection of fun, yet useless and absurd inventions. The aim of this
space is to provoke a smile, or two.

The Corner of the Absurd brings together one of the most entertaining aspects
of contemporary inventions: useless and absurd articles. Stemming from a
widespread tradition present in popular culture around the world, the Corner of
the Absurd displays everything from the classic Japanese Chindogu to the
inventions that Pep Torres has presented on numerous television programmes
over the years.

The Corner of the Absurd has drawn media attention every time that it has been
shown in Spain.

Some of the Corner of the Absurd inventions:

Taxibrella (taxi-umbrella).
The first taxi-umbrella service.
The green light on top indicates
availability.

ID socks. The ideal way to
keep your socks in pairs after
                                               the wash.

of food on the plate.

                                    Fluocan (fluorescent
                                    dog food). Food that will
                                    make dog excrement
                                    clearly visible.

Mop Star (mop with built-in
microphone). Enjoy crooning all
your favourite hits while mopping
the floor.

3. Limitless Society

This is an exhibition of inventions by individuals, companies and technological
centres. The space will continually be filled up with new ideas and proposals.
This is a fantastic showcase for creators.

Some of the Limitless Society inventions:

Xtable: Multitouch interactive tables for collaborative environments created by a
catalan small company Digalix. This tables are able to play XTable

The miba shop

The miba shop will offer a selection of the museumʼs top inventions as well as
unique items and limited pieces found at invention fairs all over the world or
sourced directly from the inventors themselves. At the miba, inventors are a
fundamental part of the museum.

Also, for all those who have a professional interest in the world of inventions
and creativity, the miba shop will stock items for experienced and budding
inventors alike.

4.- THE MIBA IS ALSO A TRAINING CENTRE

Not only is the miba Barcelonaʼs newest museum, it has also been conceived
as a meeting point and training centre for inventors and entrepreneurs who
want to learn more and find out about the latest trends. The miba will organise
seminars, conferences and workshops throughout the year.

In order to promote this educational drive, the miba has put together a series of
exclusive courses that will hopefully become a point of reference in the world of
teaching.

The miba will also offer attractive package for schools and training centres.

All of the educational activities will be carried out in the miba Educational Area,
a large, comfortable space equipped with all the necessary technological
requirements.

Miba courses

RENAISSANCE

This course, which can be adapted to suit adults or children, explains in an
entirely pragmatic and new way how we can be self sufficient with regard to
communication, music, technology, trends, psychology and other areas of
                     knowledge.

                      MEDIA HYPE

This is an innovative course about how to achieve media
fame. Inspired by the book “El arte del ruido” (The art of
                      hype) by Pep Torres.

                     TWENTYONE

This course is aimed at developing childrenʼs creative spirit. The pupils work in
groups and prepare inventions during a series of twenty-one sessions.

Educational offer for schools

Through its Educational Service, the miba has designed a specific plan for
schools and training centres. Pupils that visit the museum will enjoy a dual
experience: a guided tour of the various spaces and the talk/workshop “Hi, Iʼm
and inventor” during which they will be able to handle and try out some
inventions.

The talk will reflect on a variety of themes:

-how to lose the fear of thinking, saying and doing new things

- how not to be embarrassed about an idea

-ideas come alive when they become reality

-without new ideas we would still be living in pre-historic times

-ideas donʼt have to be kept locked up in a box

- Is there such a thing as a good or a bad idea?

-we have to make use of all materials (recycling). Everything can be used again.

-team work is essential and it is important to know how to choose the right
person for each task

5.- PEP TORRES AND THE MIBA MANAGEMENT TEAM

The miba is led and managed by Pep Torres, an inventor and creator with more
                                                 than twenty years experience.

In 2005, he set up the well known
                                                 creative studio Stereonoise. He is
also a member of the prestigious
                                                 International Invention Network.
                                                 His work and campaigns have
                                                 appeared in worldwide
                                                 publications: The Wall Street
                                                 Journal, Time Magazine and The
New York Times, to name just a
few.

He has written a number of books relating to the
world of inventions, thought and creativity.

One of his most brilliant ideas was the pedal-
powered vending machine. It consists of an
exercise bike attached to a vending machine.
Instead of using money to pay for the required
product, the client pedals and pays in calories. It
was voted one of the best inventions of 2009 by
the prestigious Time Magazine.

Another of Pep Torresʼs famous inventions is the
joint washing machine (the news reverberated around the world and was
reported by three thousand media sources). To bring the idea to fruition, Pep
Torres only needed simple finger print detection software, a household washing
machine and a great headline: “A revolutionary washing machine that forces the
man to put on one in every two washes”.

Some of the books written by Pep Torres:

-El arte del ruido (The art of hype). His first book describing techniques and
tricks to achieve media fame.

-Indeseables (Undesirables). How to deal with incompetent and nasty people
without losing your cool.

-Si no lo veo no lo creo (Seeing is believing). A book about unusual
contraptions.

-In-correct (Incorrect). Advice about how to be politically incorrect. The ʻsay and
do what you likeʼ revolution is born.

-El manual del inventor (The inventorʼs manual). A reference guide for industrial
design and innovation.

To get the miba off the ground, Pep Torres has collaborated with and received
help from many companies, friends and personalities from the worlds of culture
and communication. As such, a plaque has been installed at the miba:

The
miba is a dream come true.

Like many dreams, this one has only been made possible thanks to the help
and kindness of the individuals and companies that have freely dedicated their
time, resources and talent to the project. Without their help it would have been
difficult to bring the museum to fruition. We would like to say an enormous thank
you to everyone for their support and believing in us 100%.
