CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE Greetings fellow RRPT’s! The National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) continues to grow and after the February 2022 exam stands at 5,776 registrants strong. As I enter in what will be my last year as Chairman I want to say what an honor and privilege it has been to work with all the Board and Panel members who work so very hard to represent you and make the Registry the very best it can be. What an amazing group of people we have! This handbook is provided as a tool for members to access information relevant to your NRRPT membership. In this handbook, you will find: • a listing of registered practitioner, supporter and retired members, • our corporate sponsors, • award recipients, • members of the NRRPT organization, and • the Bylaws. For membership contact information and to view the membership handbook on-line, please visit our website at www.NRRPT.org. The membership handbook is a communication tool that can be used to network; research products and services provided by our corporate sponsors or to just look up an old friend. I hope that you find this handbook to be a useful tool. The Registry belongs to you and I would like to challenge each one of you to get involved as much as you can. Become a mentor to a less experienced technician. Get them interested in taking the exam, share your experience while helping them develop a plan to prepare for the exam and celebrate with them when they pass the exam. I would be willing to bet that both you and the technician you mentor will be better for it. If you have been reading the newsletter you will have seen the extremely long list of RRPTs that have been RRPTs for at least twenty-five years. That means that many of us are nearing retirement and now is the time to make sure the next generation of RRPTs are ready to take over. If you are interested in attending a meeting to see how the business of our Registry is conducted or would like to become more involved with the Board or Panel, please contact me or another board member. Everyone is welcome and I really enjoy meeting fellow RRPTs! If you have any questions, comments or suggestions on how the Registry can better serve the registrants, please feel free to contact me or any other board member Warmest Regards, Rick Rasmussen, CHP, RRPT NRRPT, Chairman of the Board 3
GENERAL INFORMATION OBJECTIVE The objective of the Registry is to encourage and promote the education and training of Radiation Protection Technologists and, by doing so, promote and advance the science of Health Physics. MEMBERSHIP Registered Practitioners are persons who have satisfied their registration maintenance requirements or who have not yet come to the conclusion of their first cycle. Practitioners actively support the NRRPT by paying an annual sustaining fee. Registered Supporters are members that pay annual dues but do not maintain registration requirements; supporters are also Fellow, Emeritus and/or Retired members. Retired are members who have retired from employment. Fellow is a status that has been awarded to certain registered individuals in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Registry. Member Emeritus are retired members who have applied for emeritus status and been accepted by the NRRPT Board of Directors. REGISTRATION MAINTENANCE PROGRAM The NRRPT Registration Maintenance Program is designed to help assure that Registered Radiation Protection Technologists (RRPTs) continue to maintain their professional qualification. The program requires RRPTs to participate in professional development activities after their initial registration, and it monitors those activities on a periodic basis. Meeting the requirements of the program is mandatory to maintain active registration. In addition, the RRPT must maintain membership in the Registry for the entire maintenance cycle. The Registration Maintenance Program began January 1, 1999 and requires 20 points to be earned in each five-year cycle. The cycle begins and ends on a calendar year basis, i.e., begins January 1 of the first year of the cycle and ends December 31 of the last year of the cycle. All points must be earned within the cycle to which they apply. For RRPTs registered on or before January 1, 1999, the first cycle will begin on that date. The first cycle for those registered after January 1, 1999, will begin on January 1 of the year following registration. If you have comments or questions please contact Mark Bayless, Continuing Education Committee Chairman at mbayless@lanl.gov. COLLEGE CREDITS The American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated and recommended college credit for 1 of the NRRPT courses. The American Council on Education, the major coordinating body for all the nation's higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives. ACE CREDIT connects workplace learning with colleges and universities by helping adults gain access to academic credit at colleges and universities for formal courses and examinations taken in the workplace or other settings outside traditional higher education. For more than 30 years, colleges and universities have trusted ACE CREDIT to provide reliable course equivalency information to facilitate their decisions to award academic credit. For more information, visit the ACE CREDIT website http://www.acenet.edu/acecredit. For more information, contact the Executive Secretary, 401-637-4811 or nrrpt@nrrpt.org. 5
