CONTENTS 1 Team welcome Welcome to the latest edition of our Industry 2 Steering group update Update where we bring you news from 3 Raising funds for Force Cancer South West Building Greater Exeter and our partners. 4 Construction training / Exeter Works In February we welcomed Jennie Linzell to the Building Greater Exeter team on a graduate internship. Jennie graduated last year with a degree in Graphic Design and has already co-ordinated two filming projects to Career Support for schools / Apprenticeships 5 Incentives produce resources for schools, updated the website, attended an event to promote careers in construction and helped to design and deliver the new Construction Training Directory. 6 Chartered Institue of Building events In March we teamed up with Building Plymouth, to deliver a ‘Careers in Construction’ event for service leavers and in April we promoted the sector Low Carbon Off Site Dynamic Purchasing 7 System / Raising funds for the Starfish Appeal at the ‘Which Way’ Careers Fair aimed at schools across the south west. In May we will be attending an event for Career Leads at secondary schools across the south west to promote the numerous Building Greater Exeter Morgan Sindall - Inspiring the future workforce 8/9 on their local projects resources available to them, in order to help them to promote careers in construction and the built environment. We have been working closely with planning teams across the local authorities 10 Q&A with Carla Wilkinson - Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure Ltd in the project, to ensure that Employment and Skills plans are included in applications for all major developments, and we are happy to provide advice and support as required. Construction Training Directory We have been busy working on the ‘Construction Training Directory’ which provides information on courses in construction and the built environment in Greater Exeter, connecting directly to training providers. The aim of the resource is to make it as easy as possible for employers to find apprentices/ trainees or courses to upskill their workforce, and of course for individuals looking for courses in the local area. Here I am today after progressing my way up through the company to running the Marketing and Business Development department within the south west. Tell us about the project of which you are most proud Did you always want to work in construction?
