6 | 5TH SUNDAY OF LENT | MARCH 21, 2021 WHAT’S THIS? Lent – February 17 – April 1 The Feast of the Annunciation The Feast of the Annunciation marks the visit of the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary, during which he told her that she would be the mother of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It is celebrated on March 25th each year. More importantly, since it occurs 9 months before the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day, the Annunciation marks the actual incarnation of Jesus Christ - the moment that Jesus was conceived and that the Son of God became the son of the Virgin. The feast has been celebrated since the 5th century AD. The feast celebrates two things: · God's action in entering the human world as Jesus in order to save humanity. · Also being celebrated during this feast was Mary's fiat, which means "let it be" in Latin—her willing acceptance of the news. ST. And, Jesus tells us, it is through His death on the cross that He will draw all men to Himself. It is the wonderful paradox of the cross. But Jesus doesn’t stop there. He is not just telling the disciples of what will happen to Him. He gives them responsibility as His disciples; He tells them of their role in it all. “Whoever loves His life loses it and whoever hates His life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Thanks to the generous support of SJV parish leadership, we have the opportunity to double the impact of your gift to offertory and the school annual fund. All that’s needed is for you to increase your giving for 2021 over what you provided last year. Matching funds are only available until May 31, 2021 so please act as soon as you can. You can give online at www.stjohnv.org/parish/challenge-match, during weekly offertory, or one-time gift. LOW GLUTEN HOST POLICY Effective March 20, 2021, our low-gluten host policy will change. A generous donor has come forward and purchased a gift ciborium which attaches to the paten that the priest uses when distributing communion. The new procedure is: 1. Check the sacristy drawer where the low-gluten hosts are stored to see if the gift ciborium is present. If so, place a low-gluten host (stored in the same drawer) inside and clip it on the gold paten (see Fig. A) on the credence table by the altar. The gift ciborium has a plastic protector under the metal clip (see Fig. B) so it won’t scratch the paten. Fig. A Fig. B 2. The next person who wants to add a low-gluten host would then get one from the sacristy drawer and add it to the gift ciborium which is already located on the credence table. 3. There are 4 medallions located on the side of the cabinet in the sacristy to the left of the windows. Please wear one when you go to communion. That indicates to the presider that you need a low-gluten host. If there are several distributing communion, please know that only the presider will distribute low-gluten hosts. The medallion should be returned after Mass is over.
