Page 1 With many thanks and congratulations to everyone who has played a part in MCML's PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE great success in 2019, I send my best wishes As we celebrate our achievements from 2019 for continued growth and success of the and shift our view to 2020, I want to thank Manitoba Craft Museum and Library. our dedicated staff, volunteers, membership, and visitors. The growth and continued Heather Meiklejohn success of MCML is due to all of you. President If 2017 was a year of location change and 2018 was a year of settlement in our new location, then 2019 was a year of financial sourcing. As with all not-for-profit organizations, MCML is always in need of financial assistance. To assist with our operating costs, since the end of 2019, MCML established a Manitoba Heritage Trust Fund at the Winnipeg Foundation, which will result in matching dollars for all donations until March 31, 2021. Further successful fundraising efforts in 2019 include the Made in The Middle Maker’s Market and the Puzzle Night. The former is BOBBIN LACE WORKSHOP – MARCH 2019 an artisan craft fair hosted by MCML, wherein the vendors rent tables from MCML. Our first ever Puzzle Night was a sold-out success, with another night of puzzling planned for later in 2020. Not an organization to sit idle, MCML is planning a unique pet/animal themed fundraiser for later 2020. Stay tuned for further information. After six eventful years on MCML's board, with the last two years as President, it is now time for me to step away. I cannot express how satisfying it has been to be a part of the governance of MCML. I've seen MCML go from a cramped space on Kennedy Street into a beautiful refurbished space within the C2 Centre for Craft. Now my term is coming to an end and I will pass the gavel to MCML's next president. I leave the post in the very capable hands of my successors, knowing MCML will continue to grow, to thrive, to prosper. Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library | Year End Report | 2019

PUBLICITY MCML participated in Doors Open, Culture Days/Nuit Blanche and Manitoba Fibre Festival, all excellent venues for promoting MCML and the C2 Centre for Craft. We anticipate participating again in 2020 to continue with expanding awareness in the community. Social media was used heavily to promote MCML, and followers have increased significantly in the past year. The C2 Craft Blast now reaches over 2,000 people with a monthly updated about activities in the C2 Centre for Craft. MCML will continue with regular and Manitoba 150 public programming, while continuing to offer the newly revised school programs. In terms of museum collections, MCML is still part of a working group of Manitoba museums, planning for a new Manitoba-wide database for all museum collections. We are in the final stages of development and expect that we will be using the new database as of the summer. We also hope to make substantial improvements to the storage and documentation of the large textile collection, and will proceed once grants for this are confirmed. MCML will hold the Made in the Middle Craft Market again in November, and a second puzzle night in late October / early November. We are also hosting a new Craft and Critters fundraiser auction, also in October.
