Lent 2020 LENTEN BOOK is Wesley Hill’s The Lord’s Prayer: A Guide to Praying to Our Father from the Christian Essentials series is our Rector’s selection for our parish’s Lenten book study in our small groups, support groups, and private study. Read it slowly. Savor with others. THE RECTOR’S FORUM: LOVE THY NEIGHBOR A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, people knew their neighbors. They talked to each other; shared their porches; they cooked out, and some even went to church with their neighbors. Whether or not you grew up in Orlando or moved here fifteen minutes ago, in our age of unprecedented mobility and increasing isolationism, it's kinda hard to make lasting connections with those who live right outside our front door. We might have hundreds of "friends" through online social networking, but we often don't even know the full name of the person who lives right next door. During the five Sundays in Lent, discover biblical counsel and simple wisdom about becoming a good neighbor — long before hurricane season or a presidential election put such strength to the test. SMALL GROUPS This Lent at All Saints we are meeting as friends and neighbors in each other’s homes for an easy, lite meal, and to nurture friendship, to read Scripture and pray together. There are two (2) ways to sign up for Small Groups Lent 2020. First, you can sign up to host. We need at least ten (10) hosts this Lent. Last year, over 100 people gathered in our ten (10) Small Groups. Some hosts decided to host for five consecutive weeks of Lent. Some hosts kicked off the series and let the group share responsibility for the next several weeks. All of our hosts let us know which night of the week worked for them. We need at least ten (10) hosts this Lent, maybe more. Second, you can sign up to join a Small Group. Unless you make a specific request, we will do our best to keep you in your neighborhood or close by. Sign up today to host or join a small group this Lent at All Saints by registering online, or contact Liz Stewart at 407-599-4304 or liz@allsaintswinterpark.org. .

SHROVE TUESDAY: PANCAKE SUPPER will be on Tuesday, February 25 in the Thomas Center. Why do we eat pancakes on the last day before Lent? During Lent food items like meats, fats, eggs, milk, and fish were regarded as restricted. To keep such food from being wasted, many families would have big feasts on Shrove Tuesday in order to consume those items that would inevitably become spoiled during the next forty days. The English tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday came about as a way to use as much milk, fats, and eggs as possible before Ash Wednesday began.
