Magnet Schools with Additional Updates and Specific Recommendations for SY 2023-24 • EE Waddell • Lincoln Heights • CPCC Early College (Central Campus)
EE Waddell – CTE Academy Recommendation Recommend opening in 2023-24 SY with grades 9 and 10, with a target enrollment of 250 students Potential CTE Pathways Aviation (Fly) Avionics (Fix) Aerospace (Build) BUILD Customer Relations Management (CRM)/Sales Force Admin Certification Software Development Graphic & Digital Design PACE students will be able to access all pathways FIX Next Steps Continue meetings with Aviation Institute of Maintenance, American Airlines, Piedmont Air related to Aviation/Avionics program requirements FLY
EE Waddell – Virtual Academy Recommendation • Charlotte-Mecklenburg Virtual Academy Grades 5-12 Currently +/- 1400 students Recommend redesigning the virtual academy model for Gr. 6-12 based on current best national models • PLC Recommend closing PLC in its current form and giving current families a guaranteed seat at the Virtual Academy or priority choice for other magnet options Recommend reusing the existing school code (Cooperative Innovative High School- CIHS) to establish the new Early College on Central Piedmont's main campus Next Steps Following adoption, the family communication process will begin; and the school code waiver will be submitted
EE Waddell – PACE Academy Recommendation Program Definition - The PACE Global HS will allow multilingual learners in grades 9-12 a transformative HS experience with customized pathways to ensure they graduate on time and are prepared for college and careers Focus on novice-level English learners and those in the United States for 24 months or fewer Open with grades 9 and 10, with a projection for SY 2023-24 of 250 students (1:15 ratio = 15-17 classrooms) Next Steps Following adoption, communicate program parameters with: LC staff, principals, families and students, community partners Determine methodology for student selection for PACE given level of interest
EE Waddell – Athletics Athletics will be hosted at each student's home school; extracurricular offerings to be determined and developed in concert with school leadership Interscholastic Athletic Participation would be consistent with our current policy for Students Enrolled in Magnets or Non-Magnet School Options: For high school magnet or non-magnet school option programs that do not provide athletics onsite, the student may participate in athletics at his or her home school. Under no other circumstances may a high school student participate in athletics at a school in which the student is not enrolled (Policy Code: S-SPTR/R)
Lincoln Heights – Recommendation Recommend relocating Trillium Springs Montessori staff and students to Lincoln Heights This move is permanent, but does not foreclose on another Montessori opportunity in north Mecklenburg County The school at Lincoln Heights will expand by 3 classrooms in both primary (Pre-K-K) and lower elementary (grade 1-2); this allows for natural growth in upper elementary in subsequent years
CPCC Early College at CP Central Campus Recommendation Recommend repurposing existing PLC school code, and submitting update to the State 100 students/grade level Open with grades 9-11 Access to all Central Piedmont pathways Transportation is district provided Location: Worrell Building on Elizabeth Street
