At this event, you will have the opportunity to attend an inspiring and very practical talk that will be given by Kieran Donaghy, a very experienced speaker, teacher trainer and one of the authors of the new Macmillan English Hub course for adults. You will go away from this workshop with very relevant and motivating ideas for using video with adult learners in the classroom that you will be able to put to immediate use in your classes. Moreover, you will have the chance to meet and talk to Kieran at the book stand during the break before his talk. The certificates awarded for these courses will be incorporated into the training record of the teacher (XTEC) and can be used as accreditation for taking part in the different competitions or call for papers by the Department for Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya, according to the terms of each.
Workshop Speaker Kieran Donaghy is a freelance award-winning writer, speaker and trainer. His website Film English www.film-english.com/ has won a British Council ELTons Award for Innovation in Teacher Resources. His publications include Film in Action (Delta Publishing), Writing Activities for Film (ELT Teacher2Writer) and Video, and The Image in ELT (ELT Council). He is one of the authors of video material for Macmillan English Hub. Workshops Adults Kieran Donaghy. Social shorts: using short films and videos to raise awareness of social issues. In this practical session, we will examine how short authentic videos can be used to raise awareness of social issues and values in the language classroom. We’ll explore a number of practical, generic activities which foster both oral and written communication as well as vocabulary acquisition. Teachers will go away from the session with a better understanding of how to use short videos to promote social justice and a number of tried and tested activities to use with short videos.
