   Late Work
Late work is not accepted. If a student will miss more than 2 regular assignments for documentable
medical, emergency, or work reasons, please contact the instructor. Else, the two lowest
assignments will be dropped as indicated below.

   Major Assessment Activities
There are five major component requirements for the successful completion of this course:

Assignments [A] (30%) - During the course, there will be numerous assignments to allow you to
interact with the material. Assignments may include calculations, discussion threads, topic
outlines, etc. All assignments will be submitted through Canvas unless otherwise stated.
Submit all assignments by the due date to receive credit, due to the fast paced nature of this
online summer course, late assignments cannot be accepted. I do understand that issues may
arise that may require you to miss a submittal; therefore, the lowest 2 assignment grades will be
dropped at the end of the semester. The dropped grades can be used in the event of an illness,
death, or important appointment; or if you just didn't do well on a particular assignment. I
automatically drop the two lowest grades at the end of the semester when I calculate your
assignment average. If you have extenuating circumstances that require you to miss more than
two assignments this summer, please contact me via Email ogle@clemson.edu
(mailto:ogle@clemson.edu) as soon as you are aware. Should you have any questions regarding
the grading of a particular assignment, please contact the TA within three days receipt of the
graded assignment. The grading assistant will review the questions and consult with me if
necessary. I will make the final decision to retain or change the grade on the assignment.
Highway Design Project, [D] (10%) - During the roadway design portion of the class, students
can work individually, or in groups of two, to complete a simple roadway design project. These will
be graded on a standard rubric.
Spark Page Project, [P] (10%) - This project is intended to allow students to research a
transportation topic of their choice to a deeper level of detail. Students will have the majority of
the semester to complete the project and post it on online. The Spark Page project will be
primarily peer-graded using a standard rubric. A competition will be held to identify the top
projects in the class - these will be judged by the class. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top 2
projects. In addition, a award award will be given as the teacher’s choice award. The best Spark
Page will receive a $50 award, second place $25, and teacher's choice $25.
Weekly Quizzes, [Q] (40%) - Four closed-book quizzes will be given during the term. The
tentative dates for the quizzes are given on the course schedule. The instructor reserves the right

to change quiz date, subject to at least three days notice. In general, make-up quizzes will not
be given. Students having potentially valid conflicts, such as travel for university business, with
exam dates must arrange an alternate prior date for the exam with the instructor as soon as the
conflict is known. Make-up exams will be considered after the exam date only if you
have documentable evidence of an extraordinary event beyond your control that prevented you
from taking the exam at the scheduled date and time - such as a car crash or emergency room
        visit.
Final Exam [F] (10%) - The closed book final exam will be comprehensive. The tentative date
for the exam follows the university schedule.

Any exam that was scheduled at the time of a class cancellation due to inclement weather will be
given at the next class meeting unless contacted by the instructor. Any assignments due at the time
of a class cancellation due to inclement weather will be due at the next class meeting unless
contacted by the instructor. Any extension or postponement of assignments or exams must be
granted by the instructor via email or Canvas within 24 hours of the weather-related cancellation.

   Attendance
While this course is being offered in-person, the entirety of the content is provided asynchronously to
accommodate summer schedules for co-ops, internships, and remote residence. Synchronous
   sessions will be recorded.

Because privacy regulations stipulate that faculty and staff communicate with students through
authorized University channels, use your University email account or Canvas's messaging system to
   contact me.

Canvas allows you as a student to quickly notify instructors of an absence from class and provides
set categories (e.g. court attendance, illness, family illness or death, military duty, hospitalization,
university function, religious observance). This does not serve as an excuse from class but allows
students to communicate with instructors (all or some, of their choice). Consult with instructors when
discussing absences. The Dean of Students' office can also be of assistance.

   Student Accessibility Services
Clemson University values the diversity of our student body as a strength and a critical component of
our dynamic community. Students with disabilities or temporary injuries/conditions may require
accommodations due to barriers in the structure of facilities, course design, technology used for
curricular purposes, or other campus resources. Students who experience a barrier to full access to
this class should let the professor know, and make an appointment to meet with a staff member in
Student Accessibility Services as soon as possible. You can make an appointment by calling 864-
   656-6848, by emailing studentaccess@lists.clemson.edu
(mailto:studentaccess@lists.clemson.edu) , or by visiting Suite 239 in the Academic Success Center
building. Appointments are strongly encouraged – drop-ins will be seen if at all possible, but there
could be a significant wait due to scheduled appointments. Students who receive Academic Access
Letters are strongly encouraged to request, obtain and present these to their professors as early in
the semester as possible so that accommodations can be made in a timely manner. It is the student’s

   Academic Integrity
As members of the Clemson University community, we have inherited Thomas Green Clemson's
vision of this institution as a "high seminary of learning." Fundamental to this vision is a mutual
commitment to truthfulness, honor, and responsibility, without which we cannot earn the trust and
respect of others. Furthermore, we recognize that academic dishonesty detracts from the value of a
Clemson degree. Therefore, we shall not tolerate lying, cheating, or stealing in any form.

A simple definition of plagiarism is when someone presents another person's words, visuals, or ideas
as his or her own. The instructor will deal with plagiarism on a case-by-case basis. I will use, at my
discretion, the Plagiarism Resolution Form. All infractions of academic dishonesty will be reported to
Undergraduate Studies for resolution through that office.

See the Undergraduate Academic Integrity Policy
   (https://www.clemson.edu/studentaffairs/student-handbook/universitypolicies/academic_integrity.html)
website for additional information about academic integrity at Clemson.

   Academic Grievances
Students are advised to visit the Ombuds' Office
(http://www.clemson.edu/administration/ombudsman/index.html) prior to filing a grievance. After
discussion with the undergraduate academic ombudsman, students should contact Undergraduate
Studies (656-3022) for assistance filing official paperwork.

   Non-Discrimination
Clemson University is committed to providing a higher education environment that is free from sexual
discrimination. Therefore, if you believe you or someone else that is part of the Clemson University
community has been discriminated against based on sex, or if you have questions about Title IX,
please contact the Title IX Coordinator, Alesia Smith, who also serves as the Executive Director of
Equity Compliance, at 110 Holtzendorff Hall, 864-656-3181 (voice) or 864-656-0899 (TDD). The Title
IX Coordinator is the person designated by Clemson University to oversee its Title IX compliance
efforts. Please consult the University's Title IX policy (http://www.clemson.edu/campus-
   life/campus-services/access/title-ix/) for full details.
