Welcome from the Director All About OLLI Dear OLLI Members and Friends, I hope you had a wonderful and safe holiday season. It is no secret that 2020 was a very challenging year, but it also presented new opportunities, such as adapting classes to be offered virtually. Since the pandemic, our focus has continued to be on offering high quality classes and activities, in a safe and comfortable environment, for all to enjoy. Last fall, we successfully did this with strict safety guidelines for in person activities and an improved platform for attending classes virtually from the safety of Josh Raney Director, Osher Lifelong Learning your home. Teach a Class! WHY TEACH AN OLLI UA COURSE? “ The classes are simple, fun, and comfortable. The settings are informal, friendly and exciting. To me, it’s the ideal learning experience, and once you’ve taught one, you want to teach more and more classes.” - Dr. Tom Paradise, University of Arkansas Professor of Geosciences in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences Share your knowledge and experience with an audience that is hungry for learning and lively discussion. Current and retired university faculty, distinguished community members, business leaders, hobbyists and others are invited to share their knowledge on a wide variety of thought provoking topics guided by member interest. Whether it be a multi-session course, hands on workshop, ongoing study group, or a one-time lecture, hike or walking tour, the OLLI Curriculum Committee is seeking knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging individuals to offer classes. Currently OLLI is offering classes in three formats: In person, virtually via Zoom, and a Hybrid combination to accommodate both in person and online participants simultaneously. Training and resources for all formats are offered and available on our website. Teaching a class with OLLI is a great way to share your expertise, highlight training.uark.edu your business or industry, or share your love for a topic with other like-minded individuals. Activities may include, greeting participants, introducing instructors, making program announcements and cleaning/sanitizing before and after the class. OLLI in person classes will have limited attendees and safety guidelines. ZOOM MODERATORS: To enhance the quality of OLLI’s virtual classes, Zoom moderators are needed to support the instructor and participants. Activities on Zoom may include admitting participants, introducing the instructor, monitoring chat or providing general support. HYBRID CLASS MODERATORS: Hybrid classes allow OLLI to provide an in person and virtual experience for participants simultaneously.
