Calmo Fredericia has a long tradition of creating high quality classic sofas and innovative design sofas, but the Fredericia collection has lacked a modern contemporary sofa series for the home. With the Calmo collection Fredericia has created an elegant and extremely comfortable sofa for modern homes.

Jens Risom New designer at Fredericia
Hans Wegner, Børge Mogensen and Jens Risom at the Danish Art & Crafts School, 1938
Jens Risom was a student of the golden generation in Danish Design who designed in the 1940’s to 1960’s. Before doing so Risom went to school with Wegner and Mogensen the same class at the Arts and Crafts School in Copenhagen. He is however special in that he immigrated to America and made it as one of the country’s most influential designers. Mogensen and Wegners designs laid the foundation for Fredericia, now the three old classmates are united again under one roof. Risom introduced Scandinavian design to America and influenced the world design scene while doing so. His designs has the Scandinavian functionality and focus on material, but added a New York sense of confidence and style.
The A-Chair Jens Risom 1961
The A Chair A low, upholstered, round-back arm chair of distinctive design. A sculptured base of full- thickness solid oak, walnut or steel. Styled with an A frame type back, cradles the entire seating unit and gives added visible support. The gracefully curved lines of the two piece back and loose seat cushion accentuate the comfort and softness of this foam filled chair An extremely comfortable chair, with a crisp design edge.

Risom 65 Sofa Exciting and distinctive, the ”Risom 65 Sofa” is a group of sofas that bespeaks dignity and prestige at a glance. The design accentuates the bold, clean lines of 20th century architecture. A recessed base design gives the sofas their ”floating” appearance. The plush luxury of this deeply comfortable seating is enhanced by loose seat and back cushions that with compartmented down-top filling.

Magazine Table One of Risoms earliest designs, which clearly speaks the sense of style and bold design language which Risom championed. The table can be used to accentuate any interior and the integrated shelf for a book or magazine makes the table perfect for homes as well as hospitality. Fredericia has, in corporation with the Risom family scaled down the original proportions slightly to better suit modern magazines and papers.
