mmi- pro-file 6.14.21 cubby CURRENT POSITION: Bryant MORNINGS WLTW NEW YORK iHEART Let’s get right down to the nitty gritty: Do you miss Whoopie? The show we were apart of, not so much, but Whoopi herself, absolutely. I’m honored to call her a friend still and she sent my wife and I a cake of diapers when our Naomi was born last year. It looked like a wedding cake but it was all diapers and it sure did come in handy. You’ve touched every corner the iHeart Pop triangle; from Z100 to WKTU and now WLTW. You have interacted with the fans of all three stations. Describe the difference in the listeners of each. In my eyes they are the same listeners because they all graduated with me every time I went up to a different demo. The KTU listeners for me were a mix of KTU P1’s and former Z100 P1’s that graduated to KTU from Z100 and then the same for KTU listeners that got a little older and then went to Lite FM like me. It feels like we’re all on the same journey. You have to row a boat upstream along the Mississippi River starting at New Orleans and ending in La Crosse. You have 17 bologna sandwiches and a 12 Pack of White Claws. Your rowing companions are a recording artist, a program director and a label rep. Who are they and why? I would choose, Lisa Loeb, Tom Poleman and Skip Bishop because we did something very much like this in 1994 when I was working in Houston except, we had Zima’s, not White Claws You have interviewed thousands of guests. What is the one interview that went horrible wrong? And who was your favorite person to have on your show? I had the worst and best interview all at once and my buddy Dave Dyer can back me up because we has there. Pharell was rather new at doing radio interviews and in 2003 was promoting “Frontin’” I was warned by the label that he was very soft spoken but he’s a great guy and it should be fun. Well, the first half of the interview was dreadful, he was giving me nothing, quiet on the mic and pretty much just one word answers. Since we were live I went
to commercial break and said “After these spots let’s talk about “Frontin” play it and we’ll be done. During the five minute commercial break Pharrell and I started talking about our hometowns of Virginia Beach, our rival highs schools and all things Virginia Beach, before you know it we were laughing and having a good ole time and when we came back from commercials we had the most incredible interview and he left in the best mode and so did I Congrats to you and Koko for being parents to Naomi Rose. Has fatherhood effected your show at all? Have your prep habits, content and outlook changed? Thank You, I love fatherhood and wish I did it sooner but it’s the hardest job you’ll ever love. My morning show with Christine Nage and Producer Jamie thrive on our real-life stories and let’s just say that having a baby brings a lot of great stories to the airwaves. Sooooo much to talk about and I even get good tips from our listeners. mmi- intelescope 6.14.21 LIL NAS X EXPLAINS “SUN GOES DOWN” No one can explain a story like the person who wrote it. In this case, it’s the writer who lived the narrative of a troubled and confused youth. Lil Nas X has emerged as a mega-star not just because of his catchy hooks and crafty vision. It’s also about that he is a real creative force who draws from a deep well of emotion and experience and knows how to paint it onto tracks. In a time that many artist in our beloved pop world come and go, MMI bets Lil Nas is here to stay for decades and beyond. To hear it from the man himself, click here:
intelevision mmi- 6.14.21 Check out these videos hand-picked by our staff! TAI VERDES - “A-O-K” MMI note to self: Avoid flying on Air Verdes. This amazingly infectious sing-along has the potential of becoming a classic in the lane of “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” and the cinematic offering of “A-O-K” is a way fun bumpy ride to Hitsville. Tai takes to the skies with a track that should land squarely on summer playlists and should ascend rapidly. Seat belts on and click here: LIL NAS X - “SUN GOES DOWN” The X-man gets seriously introspective and goes blonde in the new clip of “Sun Goes Down”. All the fun and games stop momentarily to bring us a deep dive into the anxiety of teenager life. Lil Nas X captures it sweetly by a metaphorical tip of the hat as the “grown up’ tells the troubled young entity that everything is going to be cool. This nostalgic journey has a lot to say about loving yourself and 86ing self-doubt. Click here: BLACKBEAR - “U LOVE U” Dear Tate. Yo, blackbear here. I got my heart all broke and snarled up like barbed wire and it’s twisted like a lemon peel on the side of a gin martini. I feel like I’m in a swimming pool with no water. No wait. That’s exactly where I am in this video of “U Love U”. Plus, I’ve been the “featuring” guy more times than Trump went all Pinocchio nose so maybe this time I can be the singer and you can be the feature-ette? Yo, Tate, Please? Click here: AREA21 - “LA LA LA” Wow, these animated aliens sure can dance. Area21 is a couple of way hip Dutch-dudes from Amsterdam. They totally smoke up the place with their signature electro-alt-hip-hop-orama. These fellas write em, spin em, rap em, produce, vocalize and market their own flying saucers. Turn it on, press play and get you some” La La La”. Click here: BAD BUNNY - “YONAGUNI” At MMI, we’re Uber-mega fans of Bad Bunny. The music is so consistently intriguing and captivating. The innovation in the tracks captures the thrilling essence of the Latino Pop movement yet remains in a lane by itself. If you’ve only lived with the singles, take a deeper dive into the bunny hole catalog and find out why the fandom multiplies so quickly. To see and hear “Yonaguni”, click here:
methodology UNDERSTANDING EACH OF THE 6 KEY COMPONENTS CHARTS/POWERS: 1 AIRPLAY is calculated by Trailing 14 Days of radio airplay on the Key Influencer radio stations – Top 157 radio stations by Average Quarter Hour. Charts are weighted using currently assigned points in Mediabase…100% point value for Morning Drive, 90% for Afternoon Drive, 80% for Mid-days, 70% for nights, 50% for Overnights. 2 RETENTION is calculated by listener Tune-In and Tune-Out using trailing 6 weeks, weighting the most recent week double, and the five weeks prior equally. 3 NATIONAL CALLOUT contemplates more than 1,000 respondents weekly in four regions geographically equivalent over the trailing 14 days of calls. 4 STREAMING, AUDIO contemplates trailing 14 days of all streaming. Songs with insufficient data are designated with an “x”. These songs do not affect the Total Performance Score in any way. 5 STREAMING, VIDEO contemplates trailing 14 days of all streaming. Songs with insufficient data are designated with an “x”. These songs do not affect the Total Performance Score in any way. 6 SALES is base on 14 days trailing results. Songs with insufficient data are designated as PENDING. Pending songs do not affect Total Performance Score in any way. HOT ZONE / DEVELOPING All five components listed above are contemplated. Songs moving up and increasing significantly in TWO or more categories are designated in the Hot Zone. Other new releases are designated as Developing. RECURRENTS Recurrents are a simple calculation of songs that have trended downward and no longer qualify for Current status. Trailing 14 days are contemplated, along with 6 weeks of Retention Data, and are computed on a 50/50 level of importance. ACTION Songs that are testing either in Callout or in Retention significantly higher than current Airplay rank. These songs are considered UNDEREXPOSED and deserving generally of greater airplay.
