Words for The Ballad of Noah: It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark. No rushing for the door until it got dark. Don’t wait too late to give God your heart. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark. The LORD told Noah to build a boat, so when the floods came in, they could float. The people teased him, they would jeer and gloat. There is no water here so who needs a boat? Then God told Noah, what he must do gather every creature in “two by two.” To save them from the storm that was about to brew and help restore creation as when it was new. The ark had no rudder with which it could steer that, to any sailor would have surely been clear. Adrift on the water was something to fear but Noah knew that God would guide and He would be near. It started raining and it just wouldn’t stop the water rising up with each and every drop. It filled the valleys then covered the mountain tops, and the rain just wouldn’t stop. For 40 days and nights the rain came down springs of flowing water gushed up through the ground. The floods swept in no land could be found, and the rain kept pouring down. The rain had finally ended, Noah sent a dove to see if there was any land exposed, a mountain or a tree. With nowhere else to land, the dove came back quickly and so they continued to pray on bended knee. After seven days, Noah sent again the dove to see if there was any land which was now above. And then he saw an olive leaf, brought back by the dove. A sign that God is always faithful in His love. The water had receded, the ark was now on land, carrying mankind and nature in His loving hand. It was clear to all that God had surely planned to show His love is faithful, so we’d all understand. The clouds then suddenly parted and light filled up the skies, breaking into colors that shone before their eyes. The rainbow is a promise our loving God is wise, a covenant to remember with every new sunrise. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark. No rushing for the door until it got dark. Don’t wait too late to give God your heart. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark. Don’t wait too late to give God your heart! 7
CHURCH LIFE June 12, 2022 “Retold: Sunday School Stories You Thought You Knew” Part 1 This summer series takes a closer look at the Sunday school stories we are most familiar with, either from teaching them or being taught them when we were kids. As we zoom in for a closer examination of these stories, we will see how they fit into God’s overall story in the Bible and how they inform our understanding of the gospel. Today – Genesis 6:9-22 Sanctuary and Livestream at 10:30 firstpreswheaton.org/livestream
Pastor’s Bible Study Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in Stewart Hall The letter to the Romans stands as the clearest and most comprehensive presentation of Christian doctrine in all the Scriptures. When Paul wrote this magnificent letter, Rome was the cultural center of the world, boasting advancements like sturdy roads and a common language. Roman citizens were able to travel and communicate like never before. To this audience, Paul delivered the most extensive expression of the gospel ever given in Scripture. Romans walks us through the origin of sin and guilt, the impossibility of saving ourselves, and our ultimate deliverance in Christ. Join us weekly for this summer study as we explore the theology and life application of Romans.
