SULAM Beth El - Seek. Understand. Learn. Act. Marvel. Our primary grades learned about the Festival of Lights in a round-robin created by our awesome educators. Learners traveled from station to station, coloring chanukiot, learning the music and blessings for lighting the candles, playing dreidel and hearing the Chanukah story. December was all about Chanukah for our SULAM learners! Sixth and seventh graders learned about Hillel and Shammai’s candle debate and constructed torn paper midrashim to reflect their understanding and preference. Most opted for Hillel’s take, lighting one candle on the first night Singing along to our (and increasing through the holiday), as favorite Chanukah songs opposed to Shammai’s position that we with music educator Sawyer Harrington-Verb should start with eight candles the first night (and decrease each night).
