NEWPORT BEACH (USA) FLEET STEVE BENDER WAS IN PANAMA ON A ROTARY SERVICE PROJECT WHEN COVID-19 PREVENTED HIM FROM RETURNING HOME. HE PURCHASED THIS BOAT TO DELIVER FOOD AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO ISOLATED COMMUNITIES.

ROTARY CONNECTS THE WORLD INTERNATIONAL SIGNAL FLAGS
THIS VIRTUAL REGATTA WAS INSPIRED BY THE PACIFIC INTER-CLUB YACHT ASSOCIATION (PICYA) OF WHICH THE SF FLEET COMMODORE IS A DIRECTOR. THE PICYA HOLDS A DECORATED BOAT PARADE EVERY YEAR ON SAN FRANCISCO BAY. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER 100 YEARS, THE PARADE WAS CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19. IN ITS PLACE A VIRTUAL BOAT PARADE WAS HELD FEATURING DECORATED MODEL BOATS. THE LAST TWO SLIDES SHOW THE SF FLEET ENTRY.
THIS WAS THE IYFR SF FLEET ENTRY IN THE PICYA VIRTUAL BOAT PARADE. IT IS MODELED AFTER A WORLD WAR II U.S. NAVY LANDING CRAFT AS A SALUTE TO VETERANS ON THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE END OF THE WAR. THE FLAGS INCLUDE: THE UNITED STATES, THE UNITED NATIONS (IT IS ALSO THE UN’S 75TH ANNIVERSARY), ROTARY INTERNATIONAL, THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, THE U.S. NAVY, AND THE COMMODORE’S FLAG OF THE SF FLEET.
