Language list English Language of Material French, English, German Context Historical Note International Working Men's Association (IWMA); founded in Berlin 1922, based on anarcho- syndicalist principles; important members were the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), Unione Sindicale Italiana (USI), Federación Obrera Regiónal Argentina (FORA), Confederação Geral dos Trabalhadores Portugueses (CGTP), Freie Arbeiter-Union Deutschlands (FAUD) and the Sveriges Arbetares Centralorganisation (SAC); fascism, dictatorships and the Second World War weakened or destroyed most of the sections; after 1945 the IWMA consisted with the exception of the SAC mostly of exiled or small propaganda sections; in 1956 the Swedish and Dutch sections left the organization considering it too dogmatic; the Spanish CNT is today the most important section. Content and Structure Content Documents on congresses 1922, 1925, 1933, 1937, 1951, 1953, 1961, including agenda, circulars, statements and reports; annual reports, statutes; leaflets, manifestos and circulars issued by the secretariat; some documents of the sections of the IWMA on Germany, Russia, Spain and South America; resolution and reports on the meeting of the subsecretariat of the IWMA in Western Europe on 12-13 February 1949 and some other documents. NB. IWMA documents can also be found in the papers of the Dutch anarchist Albert de Jong at the IISH. Accrual 2014: some documents on the situation in Germany, especially on the International Conference of the IWMA in Amsterdam from 22 to 24 April 1933. Arrangement The "Collection I.W.M.A." consist of documents issuing from various origins. It covers the period 1922-1961. The size is 0.15. The collection is not complete, as there are for instance no documents on the congress in Liège (1928), Madrid (1931) and Paris (1938); on several other subjects there are only few documents. Additional information can be found in the archives of Rudolf Rocker, Albert de Jong and D. Abad de Santillan.
