Morning Need to Know Getting you ready for your investing day October 9, 2018 Written & compiled by Mark Bunting, Publisher, Capital Ideas Media CANADIAN ANALYSTS' CALLS INITIATIONS Fortis (TSX:FTS) Bank of America Merrill Lynch rates a "buy" with a price target of $45 (Canadian). ** Boralex (TSX;BLX) IA Securities upgrades to "strong buy" from buy and lowers the target to $22 from $26 partly on the company's potential to raise the dividend. Suncor (TSX:SU) Macquarie upgrades to "outperform" and hikes the target to $58 from $53.
BRP (TSX:DOO) RBC Dominion Securities raises the rating to "outperform" and keeps the target at $70. Canadian National Railway (TSX:CNR) Morgan Stanley moves the target to $119 from $116, saying the company's earnings could sharply accelerate in the fourth quarter. Desjardins boosts the target to $127 from $121 and maintains a "buy". Canadian Pacific Railway (TSX:CP) Morgan Stanley hikes the target to $310 from $300. Desjardins moves the target to $311 from $274. U.S. ANALYSTS' CALLS INITIATIONS Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA). Macquarie starts at "outperform" with a $430 (U.S.) price target. ** Baker Hughes (NYSE:BHGE) Jefferies lifts the target to $38 (U.S.) from $34 on the company controlled by General Electric.
STOCKS THAT MAY MOVE Aurora Cannabis (TSX:ACB) has applied to list its shares on the New York Stock Exchange under the same ticker symbol as on the TSX. The company hopes to have its shares trading on the big board by the end of the month. TerrAscend (CSE:TER) plans to pursue growth opportunities in the U.S. To that end, the company will reorganize with the help of Canopy Growth (TSX:WEED;NYSE:CGC), and its subsidiary Canopy Rivers (TSXV:RIV). D.R. Horton (NYSE:DHI) is down slightly in pre-market trading after the homebuilder's forecast for home sales and orders was modestly below estimates. However, DHI is still expecting sales growth this year of 13%. Tata Motors (NYSE:TTM) fell 13% trading in India after its Jaguar Land Rover division said it would shutter its UK plant for two weeks due to weak demand out of China. Papa John's (NASDAQ:PZZA) may get a buyout offer from Trian Fund Management, run by Nelson Peltz. With files from The Globe and Mail, Reuters and Bloomberg News. MARKETS TSX and U.S. equity futures are lower after the
International Monetary Fund reduced its global growth forecasts for this year and next to 3.7% from 3.9% due to the tariff battle between the U.S. and China, and strains in emerging markets. European stock indices are down for a fourth day and Asian stock indices finished overnight at a 17-month low. The 10-year Treasury yield hit its highest level since 2011 as concerns among stock investors continue that higher rates will lead to a slower economy. CURRENCIES The Canadian dollar is up 0.2% at $0.7696 U.S. Bitcoin is down 0.7 at $6,568. COMMODITIES West Texas Intermediate is up 0.7% at $74.79 a barrel (U.S.) as exports from Iran fell and about 20% of oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut in ahead of Hurricane Michael.
