2 Democracy.doc Theatre: Open Forum Margo Elena, Arman Bekenov PhD, Molly Flynn Democracy Doc is a research project and performance at the same time, where we explore how people in Russia feel about Democracy, what democracy means to them, and how it reveals itself in their life. From 2006 to 2014, it was performed more than thirty times in Russia and Switzerland. It will be performed in a psychological community for the first time, exploring how people in different countries feel about democracy. Everyone who attends will be an actor and director at the same time. And you will have a chance to contemplate whether it is theatre or Worldwork or both. [Main Hall, open to the public, time to be confirmed]. Day 2: Creative Approaches to dealing with Personal and Systemic Experiences of Trauma The path of the spirits: healing as initiation in Morocco Stephan Müller My own search for healing of a chronic disease led me on a long path to Process Work and into the world of Gnawa – Healers in Morocco. During a nightly healing ritual, seven different spirit entities are invited with music and rhythm to express themselves through the dance of the adepts present. So they are honoured in the body of the dancers and in the body of the community. I will approach the rich world of the Gnawa through personal report, music, poetry, photography, film and essayistic reflections and show how they transform the difficulties of life into virtue and joy. Key Words: Transformation, healing as initiation, ally, music and dance. [Room 2, 12.00- 13.00] Life Myth and the Creative Force Within: Residential workshops on life-myth as a way to work out trauma and long-term edges Hanna Wieloch Dip. POP and Bogna Szymkiewicz-Kowalska PhD Based on 6 years’ experience leading “Vacations with Life Myth” week-long residential workshops in nature, using Process Work techniques, as well as art-therapy tools, group work tasks, vision quests and other ways of raising awareness and deepening self-awareness. The workshop includes exercises to give participants an experiential example of our work. [Main Hall-A, 14.30-16.00] Conflict as One Timeless Pattern Four Phases of Conflict: Art and Creative Processing Methods Kara Wilde MA and Suzette Payne In this workshop, we will define and explore Arny Mindell’s Four Phases for processing conflict with creative methods, using simple art making tools. We will be using art to explore an experience of each phase, possible edges to the phases and discover that Conflict is “one timeless process pattern” of movement and meaning. No art experience necessary. Join us in this fun and creative way of exploring how art making with phases can bring ease, insight and fun to processing conflict on our planet. [Room 1, 14.30-16.00] Genuine Reactions: a Dialogue on Homophobia and Transphobia Lena Aslanidou, Vera Lardi, Alexandra Vassiliou PhD. Lena, Vera and Alexandra designed a community project which included a theater performance (based on true stories of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and trans people, as well as parents and educators), followed by an open forum discussion with the audience. The goal was to ponder questions relating to homophobia and transphobia using theater and dialogue. We will present a video of the theater play (55 min) and will discuss with workshop participants the design, creation and implementation of this community project. [Room 3, 14.30-16.00] A transformative journey of healing from a Traumatic Brain Injury through Cathy’s NOT ART Cathy Bernatt On August 9, 2015, I was hit by an 18-wheel commercial drunk truck driver, en route to a 3-week wilderness solo of long distance swimming and kayaking to dive deep into the dreaming of what was next in my life. In the near- death experience, I suffered a traumatic brain injury, lumbar spine and neck injuries. I was catapulted to an
3 internal wilderness solo that lasted 2 years plus. Unable to watch TV, read, verbalize much or “DO”, I learned how to “BE”. I began a practice upon waking each morning and going to sleep each evening of doing Cathy’s NOT ART Art. This practice helped me express what was moving deep inside of me. About 5 months in, I began adding haikus to each of the pieces. I will let Cathy’s NOT ART Art tell a story of the multiple layers and stages of my healing journey! [Room 3, 16.30-17.30] Special Event: Day 1 & 2 Encounters in the War Zone: photo and video installation Yeşim Özben, MA Dipl. PW. Encounters in the War Zone is a contemplation on war and an attempt at Process Oriented photography and video installation. It is an exploration of the different aspects of the experience of war through the experience of toy soldiers. Finally, it is a search for meaning and a nod to something bigger that holds the totality of the experience together. The video installation intends to create an atmosphere of war as well as creating an intimate encounter for the viewer. Inspired by the artist’s experience in a war zone and recurring nightmares as a child, Process Work is used both in the unfolding and making of the art, as well as the creation of meaning and evoking feeling through the art itself. [Rathdown Suite] Day 3: Process Work Innovation in Organisational Development: applying Process Work across the political and social spectrum The Life Myth Adventure: Combining Process Work, Role-Playing Games and Nature Sylwia Kiro Zabinska McIntyre Research was conducted during Life Myth workshops, where the participants travelled between the realms of a mythological RPG scenario, Process Work exercises and an outdoor vision quest. After the events they were interviewed; a special focus was drawn to whether storytelling techniques and becoming a protagonist of an RPG adventure can support dealing with participants’ edge figures and help with anchoring their discoveries, thus facilitating the Process Work exploration of their Life Myth. The research findings can be of use to Process Work practitioners who run Life Myth workshops, storytellers and RPGs enthusiasts alike. The presentation features a poster and a selection of visual materials and objects, documenting the project origins, the journey itself, the participants’ experiences and the research outcomes. [Room 3, 12.00-13.00] Developing Deeper Movement Skills with Laban Movement Analysis for the Coach and Process Worker Kate Jobe Attention to double signals in movement, two things being communicated at the same time, like saying, “Yes, I’m excited”, while collapsing into a chair, is a powerful asset in untangling the unintended communication that muddies relationship. Yet, practitioners frequently miss these seemingly obvious signals because they don’t have a specific language, felt experience, and methods for intervening with movement. Laban Movement Analysis gives us this language along with experiential depth of meaning that goes well beyond body language. In this workshop we will experiment with some new Laban tools used with Process Work for enhancing our perception of movement in order to unlock potential, clarify intention and goals, and empower clients in practical tasks. [Main Hall-A, 14.30-16.00] Music as a dreamdoor: Exploring the potential of Music as a tool for group facilitation Moisés Espinoza and Paola Esperson In this workshop, we will present a theoretical and experiential taste of the possibilities that music offers in group facilitation. A small group will be invited to work in the middle to be facilitated using Music Therapy tools to complement the traditional Processwork approach. External participants will be provided with a number of criteria and guidelines to observe the group process and record their impressions. Following the group process, there will be space for reflection, feedback and discussion. [Room 3, 14.30-16.00]
4 Cultivating Social Field Awareness Carol Zahner, MS, DiplPW Inspired by the Social Presencing Theater (SPT) of Otto Scharmer and Arawana Hayashi, this presentation explores how SPT practices might be useful in Worldwork situations. SPT is a social art form that cultivates body-based, intuitive knowledge of self, groups and society; and applies this knowledge to leadership and change work. The fundamental practice is synchronizing mind with body feeling. This leads to a felt sense of the process dynamics or forces in the social field, which then can be expressed in simple body shapes and gestures. Since SPT limits verbal reflection to a few words and emphasizes expression through orientation in the space, body posture and gesture, there is an opportunity for each role to be an expression of the whole field. This gives equal importance to roles and gives participants who are less verbal an opportunity to participate in a significant way. [Room 2, 14.30-16.00] Poster presentations on display throughout conference Coconuts and Mangos, Metaphors for working with Primary and Secondary processes in Latin America Carol Zahner, MS, Dipl PW & Eduardo Luis de la Vega, MA Metaphors help explain new concepts and give people connections in direct and meaningful ways. Latin America is a culture that highly values a sense of belonging; to a family, a group, a community. Inspired by the ocean, islands, flora and fauna of the Caribbean region of Colombia where he grew up, Eduardo has developed metaphor of how a person might experience their primary and secondary process. We have been delighted to see how enthusiastic our workshop participants adopt the symbols and concepts. [Balcony, Main Hall] The creative process as companion of an underwater trip inside myself Surfing trauma with creativity 1983-2018! Soledad Abejon One day day I realized that something didn’t work the way I’d like it to. It was a terrible shock to realize that my body reacted without my consent and the explosion of rage that followed resulted in devastation. Once I became aware of this, I went through a long process throughout which artistic creativity accompanied me in an almost unconscious way. I realized that creativity was my way to bring out my emotions. Artistic creation has allowed me to extend my artistic limits to infinity. [Balcony, Main Hall] ‘Painting from Your Core’ Andrew Carroll ‘Painting from Your Core’ is a way to approach one's own total personal process in a visual way; it is thus just as much about understanding how process 'works' as it is about anything finally produced. A basic tenet of 'Painting from Your Core' is that the painter must hand over control of a painting's unfolding to something other than himself/herself. Andrew has run practical workshops exploring 'Painting from Your Core' for over 2 years now, both to develop students' understanding and also his own insight. [Balcony, Main Hall] Dreaming into Community: A Graphic Guidebook to Worldwork by Venetia Bouronikou & Lynn Lobo Presenter: Venetia Bouronikou This Poster presents the creative process of a graphic novel based on Worldwork Greece 2017.
