She will facilitate Group Critiques and connect you with resources and exercises to hone your Curatorial Project. At the end of the Program you will have a one-on-one session with her to ensure that you are prepared to launch your Curatorial Project. An is a freelance writer, curator, and arts educator. She has curated exhibitions at the Hamburger Bahnhof — Museum of Contemporary Art, Berlin as well as the exhibition Gesture Sign Art, Deaf Culture / Hearing Culture in Kunstraum Kreuzberg / Bethanien in Berlin. www.nodecenter.net 23 June — 7 July 2021 Key Moments in the History of Curating with Lauren Reid Key Moments in the History of Curating provides a guide to important turning points in the last 100 years of exhibition-making. Over three weeks we will focus on key exhibitions that changed the course of contemporary curating in order to achieve a richer understanding of where we stand today, as well as to gain creative insights from some of the innovative ideas of the past. Through concrete case studies, the course aims to give participants a grounding in the history of significant exhibitions as well as to provide inspirations for future directions in curating. www.nodecenter.net 21 July — 4 Aug 2021 Creative Thinking: Developing a Curatorial Concept with Nora Mayr In this module, we will go through different phases of developing a curatorial concept, starting from brainstorming to defining your topic to organizing your content and finally editing and refining information. We will look at the potential of narration and scenography for a curatorial project as well as test different ways of visualizing ideas. By moving through the research phases and gaining feedback along the way, participants will develop a strong foundation of information that will be used in their curatorial project. www.nodecenter.net 25 Aug — 8 Sep 2021 Expanding Exhibitions: Innovative Approaches to Curating with Lauren Reid This course will explore interesting strategies in exhibition- making and ways of thinking about curating contemporary art by sharing a wide variety of innovative curatorial approaches that are designed to inspire. Expanding Exhibitions aims to open up ways of thinking about your curatorial practice from the white cube and beyond: from boundary-pushing curatorial concepts, to exhibiting outside the art space and working with other disciplines. www.nodecenter.net 22 Sep — 13 Oct 2021 Exhibition Design with Raquel Chaves This course examines the planning and designing of three- dimensional environments that encourage visitor’s understanding, participation, and emotional engagement. Participants will learn different tools to understand and manipulate space using from simple existing elements to design graphics or multimedia in order to make the exhibition content more clear and accessible. Following the course participants will learn practical tools to observe a space and its interaction and will develop an exhibition design proposal. International Curatorial Program 19
www.nodecenter.net 20 Oct. 2021 Finding and Inviting Artists with Nora Mayr This seminar will provide tools to lead your through the process from discovering artists to successfully inviting them to participate in your exhibition. You will receive tips for how and where to look for artists related to your curatorial topic. Additionally, we will look at best practices for initiating first contact with artists to participate in your show, whether it’s with an existing work, a commission, an ongoing collaboration or more. www.nodecenter.net 3 — 24 Nov. 2021 Project Management with Doris Friedl This course will address the main elements of project management: from the concept formulation to the evaluation of its viability, from dealing with an expanding team and tights schedules. www.nodecenter.net 12 — 26 Jan. 2022 Curatorial Procedures: Contracts, Loans and official documents with Nora Mayr This course is intended to familiarise curators with some of the most common contracts and forms used when assembling exhibitions — customs declarations / pro-forma invoices, gallery consignments, and museum / biennale loan agreements. The course will supply a number of examples, going over each one in detail, as well as draw from texts that highlight the ramifications for such documents in contemporary art. www.nodecenter.net 9 Feb — 2 Mar 2022 Grant Writing and Fundraising with Karina Griffith The art of grant writing involves conviction, imagination and stamina. The key is to convince funding bodies that a) your project fits their bill, b) you can achieve what you propose and c) only you can do just that. This requires not only an understanding of your own skills and talents, but good comprehension of needs and desires of the people who will give you the resources you need. At the end of this course, participants will have the skills to create and outline for writing a grant proposal, evaluate grants and calls for funding for suitability, and initiate conversations with possible sponsors. www.nodecenter.net 16 — 30 Mar 2022 Professional Presentation: CV, Statement, Portfolio with Kate Brehme This course will help you to bring out the best in your professional presentation as a curator. Learn tips and techniques to formulate your CV, curatorial statement, personal biography and portfolio in a way that highlights your strongest expertise and expresses your curatorial interests. www.nodecenter.net Lauren Reid is an independent curator currently based in Berlin, Key Moments in the Germany. She is Coordinator at Node Center for Curatorial Studies History of Curating (since 2012). In 2014 she joined the independent space insitu + as Co-Director and initiated the Project Space Festival Berlin Expanding Exhibitions: with the insitu team. Exhibitions include Haunted Thresholds: Innovative Approaches Spirituality in Contemporary Southeast Asia in collaboration to Curating with the research network DORISEA and A Brief History of Memory, a strategic project at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, IV Moscow Biennial of Young Art 2014. Doris Friedl is an Austrian-born business operation professional Project specialized in the creative industry who has worked and lived in Management Brussels, Barcelona and since 2006 in Berlin. She has over twenty years of experience in both creative as well as intercultural environments. Through a range of roles in creative companies, including as Gallery and Senior Operations Manager at Esther Schipper, Doris has extensive strategic, organizational and administrative experience. Additionally, as a certified systemic coach, Doris accompanies artists and creatives through personal and professional changes, helping them to identify their goals, overcome blocks and to adopt new perspectives. www.nodecenter.net Nora Mayr is a independent curator working in Berlin. After completing Seminar: her studies of Communication Science and Art History at the Finding and Inviting Artists universities of Vienna and Utrecht in 2008, she was responsible + for the International Studio Programme of Künstlerhaus Creative Thinking: Bethanien Berlin for three years. Since 2012 she had been co- Developing a Curatorial director of the exhibition space insitu, Berlin, as well as is a Concept co-founder of the Project Space Festival Berlin. As insitu she has exhibited at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin and Another Space, Copenhagen, taken part in talks for Aarhus Art Weekend 2015; and is regularly invited panelists as events like the Curatorial Marathon for Picture Berlin and the Grosses Treffen — Portfolio Review for Nordic Artists. Raquel Chaves is a Brazilian designer, researcher, curator and educator Exhibition with an MA in Design from University of Brasília and complementary Design studies in Spain (University of Barcelona), Germany (Bauhaus Dessau Foundation) and France (Domaine de Boisbuchet). After some years of experience working as a product and graphic designer for companies and galleries, she opened her own studio, based in Brazil. Since 2011, she has been working as a curator and producer of exhibitions and events, as well as a guest lecturer in schools and universities. In 2018, she co-founded and curated Brasília Design Forum, coordinated the research project Map Design Brasília, and cooperated with several initiatives to promote emerging design in her country. Kate Brehme is an Australian independent curator and arts educator Professional Presentation: based in Berlin. She has worked in Australia, Scotland and Germany CV, Statement, Portfolio on a variety of projects, exhibitions and events and since 2008 runs Contemporary Art Exchange, a curatorial platform for international projects, exhibitions and events providing professional development opportunities for emerging and young artists. Her project and research themes include place and cultural identity, labour and work, globalisation, disability and social engagement. Kate is also a lecturer for the Master in Arts Education programme at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam and a DFG Funded Doctoral Fellow at the Center for Metropolitan Studies at Berlin’s Technical University.
