ARCHITECTURE A CELEBRATION OF WATER Waikkal is generally known for hot, dry weather, however our property was designed in a way to usher in fresh ocean breeze and tropical winds from the river. The low, extended roof in the lobby allows for the circulation of air offering a cool haven from the island heat.
A RC HIT ECTU RE The design and style of the resort revolves around one main thing; water. The property was designed to emerge out of the water. Wattura; the Sinhala term for ‘water’, surrounds and passes through our resort.
A RC HIT ECTU RE The architecture of the resort blends a combination of masculine; i.e. columns, and feminine elements, i.e. flora. Throughout the property, whether by the pool side or outside the rooms, endemic plants are placed to offer shade and privacy to the guests. The resort’s pool was designed to resemble the historic Twin Ponds concept from medieval Anuradhapura. A cascading waterfall plunges into one end of the pool and the other into the centre of the resort; its spa.
