#insideretaillive Hello and welcome to Inside Retail Live 2020. We’re only in February and there’s no denying this year has had a rocky start, with more brands sadly shutting up shop. Meanwhile, many of us have been personally and/or professionally struck by the unprecedented bushfires that have ravaged much of the east coast of Australia. But out of tragedy comes inspiration and hope, and it is an honour to be in the company of so many of you who stepped up and used your businesses to help those in the bushfire-affected communities. I sincerely hope the remainder of 2020 is happy, fruitful and productive for all of us. The team at Inside Retail has shaken things up and created an all-new formula to bring you an agenda jam-packed with great insights from some of Australia’s brightest retail leaders. Our hope is that when you leave Inside Retail Live, you’ll have been exposed to new ideas, practical advice and thought-provoking insights that will help you and your teams during these tough trading times. You will hear from both local and international keynotes each day on the mainstage, followed by an opportunity to choose your own content journey by picking from one of the four streams: customer, workplace, tech/innovation and retail management. For us, this is really just an extension of what we try to do each and every day. Our goal is simple: support the Australian, New Zealand and Asian retail markets with essential daily news and information for professionals in the business of retail. And this year, I am excited to note, will mark the 48th year of doing just that. Thank you for not only joining us at Inside Retail Live 2020, but for also being part of that journey. Happy retailing. Amie Larter General Manager Octomedia (publisher of Inside Retail) 3
FOREWORD We are very excited to be a platinum sponsor of this year’s Inside Retail Live event that brings together some of Australia’s brightest retail leaders in one place to inspire us with insights and ideas for the future. eftpos proudly supports retailers by promoting competition and choice, and we are always looking for new ways to enhance our core network propositions of network resilience and security. For example, we believe retailers should have the ability to send (or route) transactions to a least cost network – a process called Least Cost Routing. This is about getting the best economic outcome for your business, so you can pass those benefits on to your customers. When we think about the theme across Retail Week, “Dare to Disrupt, Innovate and Inspire”, we have witnessed a rapid acceleration of innovation and disruption across the payments landscape. Today, eftpos competes in a dynamic environment against a number of payment players but our core values remain true. As Australia’s domestic payments network, Stephen Benton Chief Executive Officer we believe we play an important role in driving eftpos payments competition, providing efficient, cost- effective and secure payments solutions for the benefit of consumers and retailers. I invite you to call in and talk to us on stand 32 and have a chat about how eftpos may be able to help you improve your bottom line. Welcome to this great event and I hope that you walk away feeling energised about the opportunities ahead for your business. 4
#insideretaillive FOREWORD Retail customer service is like any other customer service: it’s the act of providing customers with assistance, answering their questions and helping them solve problems. However there are some factors specific to this industry that make it important to learn and hone retail customer service skills. Doing so will lead to happier, more loyal customers. Keeping customers happy means making every interaction matter. With Zendesk, you can make sure your customers get the support they need - wherever they’re interacting with your brand. Because happy shoppers are repeat customers - and that’s what makes a good brand great. We are proud to be a supporter of Retail Week and Inside Retail Live 2020, a movement committed to driving growth and inspiring change in the industry. Meet us at our booth to see how you can join other leading Mikkel Svane Australian retailers who use Zendesk Chief Executive Officer and take your customer experience to Zendesk the next level - and perhaps win some fun goodies in the process! 5
