DATES & VENUE The 49th International COCOTECH Conference & Exhibition will be held from 7-11 September 2020 at Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 2. ORGANIZATION OF THE MEETING The Conference is organized jointly by the International Coconut Community (ICC) and the Government of Malaysia through the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry. The sponsored events and activities would be as listed in the program. 3. THEME The Conference theme is “Promoting Smart Farming and Eco-Friendly Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Coconut Development”. This meeting will cover new technological developments on coconut production particularly planting and replanting systems, varietal improvement, use of selected local elite planting materials and hybrids, coconut-based farming systems, integrated pest and disease management, post-harvest processing, and technology updates in the manufacture of emerging coconut products for the domestic and export market, cost effective technologies on integrated coconut processing, and marketing strategies. PARTICIPANTS: The Conference is open to the public. All ICC member countries will be represented at the Conference by a Plenipotentiary Delegate. Other senior government officials would comprise an official delegation. UN related agencies and relevant international organizations are invited to participate. Representative from ICC Accreditation organizations, coconut farmers, industry and private sector stakeholders are eligible to participate. 7. REGISTRATION FEE: Prescribed Registration Fees are in the following categories: 1) US$500 for non-government sector participants from non-ICC member countries, 2) US$400 for government sector participants from non-ICC member countries, 3) US$300 for non-government sector participants from ICC member countries, 4) US$200 for government sector participants from ICC member countries. Registration Fee is waived for one Plenipotentiary Delegate of an ICC member country. TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS The Government of Malaysia will provide necessary protocol and transport arrangements for National Ministers and Government Delegate. Transport assistance is also provides for Resource Persons. It is advisable to send your flight details to the ICC Secretariat by e-mail to cocotech@coconutcommunity.org and to the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry by e-mail at norzulaily@moa.gov.my or s.fikri@moa.gov.my 11. VISA REQUIREMENTS Passport holders of the following ICC member countries are eligible to enter Malaysia without a visa for 30 days: Fiji, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Thailand, Tonga, Vanuatu and Vietnam. Citizens of India and Sri Lanka may apply for and obtain visa through the respective Embassy of Malaysia in India and Sri Lanka or could also apply through Electronic Visa (eVisa) and Electronic Travel Registration and Information (eNTRI) facilities online. India, Kenya and Sri Lanka would require an International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever to enter Malaysia and it is responsibility of the Participant to organize. Delegates from other ICC member countries not mentioned above should obtain their Malaysian visa from the Embassy of Malaysia in their country of origin or from the nearest Malaysian Embassies/Consulates prior to their departure from their point of origin. INSURANCE Neither the ICC nor the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry of the Government of Malaysia will be responsible for personal accidents, medical services, or damage to the private property of participants. Therefore, it is recommended for participants to make their own arrangements with respect to personal insurance during their stay in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 13. AIRLINES SERVICING KUALA LUMPUR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KLIA), MALAYSIA There are many major airlines which serve Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) such as Malaysian Airlines, Garuda Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Sri Lankan Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Thai Airways, Philippine Airlines etc. Please be advised that Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) is another international airport hub which caters for local and international low-cost and full-service carriers. 14. CURRENCY The currency used in Malaysia is the Ringgit. The exchange rate against US Dollar is approx. US$ 1 = RM 4.12 as of February 2020. 15. CLIMATE Malaysia features a tropical rainforest climate with two seasons: rainy and dry. Rainy season lasts from October to March and a drier season covers the remining 6 months (April – September). However, Kuala Lumpur does not have a true dry season since the average annual rainfall is about 285 cm. Average temperatures remains constant throughout the year with average high temperatures at around 30oC and average low temperatures at around 24oC. Kuala Lumpur can be visited all year round.
