Thank you for joining us! Dear Colleagues, Thank you for joining us for our second CareFactor Pitch Day. CareFactor’s mission is to use the principles of innovation science to improve the lives of the elderly and frail in our communities. CareFactor delivers an accelerated program of growth and learning with access to mentors, community and networks in aged care, technology, marketing, investors and capital raising. CareFactor provides skills, resources and support for aged care start-ups, entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. Supported by major sponsor Telstra Health along with program sponsors – ACSA (Aged & Community Services Australia), Paynters, Sprint VC, Redchip and Westpac, and program partners AWS, CRC Longevity, Global Centre for Modern Ageing, the Office of the Queensland Chief Entrepreneur and Austrade – CareFactor has been developed to rapidly scale ideas nationally and internationally. We playfully call CareFactor Australia’s entrepreneurial playground for aged care. This is an open playground focused on build > measure > learn loops. We provide the teams with the tools, and help them deploy these. We surround them with mentors, entrepreneurs and subject matter experts to support them along the way. We push them to rapidly validate their product market fit through market collisions with providers via speed dating. All of this is unapologetically in the pursuit of deploying products or services that are wanted and needed, to improve the lives of the elderly and frail. For this cohort we had 52 applicants from three archetypes. Firstly, academia looking to translate their research into commercial outcomes within the Australian aged care sector. Secondly, entrepreneurs who understand the demographic thematic, highly defensive revenue flows and current low levels of innovation and technology adoption required to create productivity and efficiency outcomes. Thirdly, intrapreneurs within age care providers with a particular piece of Intellectual property, often in partnership with academia and research institutions, looking to spin this out of their organisation and rapidly build a commercial business model. We shortlisted 24 applicants and focused on how they planned to practically improve the lives of the elderly in our community. What key pain were they solving, or gain were they creating – for either the consumer, or the caregiver. This year the pivot to digital also meant we were able to accommodate global interest from North America and Europe! Both regions have a spotlight on Australia as a leading aged care system. With great pleasure, at Pitch Day we will introduce the 10 graduates of CareFactor’s latest business incubator program. These 10 teams have worked extremely hard over the past four months learning and applying these principles of innovation science. They will share with you their innovation and all have an ‘ask’ of you. In the following pages you will find: a brief introduction to each of the teams; information on the sponsors that helped make CareFactor happen (we encourage you to support them however you can); and the ‘rules of engagement’ for Pitch Day. In closing, thank you again for your support of this industry-wide initiative. Please let us know how we can further involve you directly in this program (or if we can practically help you deliver innovation in your organisation!) by connecting with us at carefactor@bris.bentleys.com.au We hope you enjoy the event! Yours sincerely. Heath F Shonhan CareFactor Founder & Partner, Bentleys (Qld) Pty Ltd 3
