Booster Vaccination to Prevent COVID-19 in the Era of Omicron
15 Feb 2022
As the US enters the third year of the global coronavirus pandemic, vaccination remains the
most effective tool against infections and symptomatic illness. Layered on other public health
mitigation tools such as testing and masks, vaccination is central to a larger strategy of control
and management of COVID-19 as the pandemic shifts toward endemicity

Risk factors for and clinical outcomes of ceftazidime-avibactam-resistant
carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae nosocomial infections: a
single-center retrospective study
19 Feb 2022
Abstract Purpose The emergence of ceftazidime-avibactam (CZA) resistance in carbapenem-
resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) has been increasingly reported in recent years. We
aimed to identify the risk factors of CZA-resistant CRKP infection and assess clinical outcomes
of the patients
Impact of the first COVID-19 lockdown in Germany on the rate of acute
infections during intensive chemotherapy for Hodgkin lymphoma
19 Feb 2022
Abstract Purpose Evidence on the effect of self-protection via social distancing and wearing face-
masks on infections during chemotherapy is currently not available. We asked if the occurrence
of acute infections during chemotherapy for advanced-stage Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) decreased
when COVID-19 protection measures were in effect
A 2-year retrospective analysis of the prognostic value of MqSOFA
compared to lactate, NEWS and qSOFA in patients with sepsis
18 Feb 2022
Abstract Purpose Sepsis is a life-threating organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host
response to infection. Being a time-dependent condition, the present study aims to compare a
recently established score, i.e., modified quick SOFA (MqSOFA), with other existing tools
commonly applied to predict in-hospital mortality

clinical and histopathological characteristics of critically ill COVID-19 patients suffering from
severe duodenitis that causes a significant bleeding and/or gastrointestinal dysmotility
Cycle threshold responses in SARS-COV2 PCR tests depend on the
method by which the samples were obtained and require strict global
standardization
17 Feb 2022
Abstract Purpose Since 2020, a SARS-COV2 epidemic has been raging worldwide. The cycle of
the PCR test in which the virus is detected is called cycle threshold (CT). The method of
obtaining the sample is not detailed in any published study and is based on general guidelines of
the CDC. Our contention is that the manner in which the sample is obtained has a dramatic
effect on CT values

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus responsible for the
ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak, is undergoing a progressive
evolution characterized by accumulation of several non-synonymous mutations in its genome,
garnered for better adaptation to its human host [1]. The most recently emerged SARS-CoV-2

Clinically healthy household dogs and cats as carriers of multidrug-
resistant Salmonella enterica with variable R plasmids
14 Feb 2022
Introduction. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a One Health issue concerning humans, animals
and the environment and a unified One Health approach is required to contain this problematic
issue. Dogs and cats are popular pet animals and are known to carry many bacterial pathogens
that are of public health importance, including Salmonella . However, data on AMR in companion
animals is limited
Outbreak of KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae ST15 strains in a
Chinese tertiary hospital: resistance and virulence analyses
14 Feb 2022
Introduction. Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) is a major cause of clinical
infection. However, K. pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing K. pneumoniae ST15
strains are occasionally identified and have seldom been reported to cause hospital outbreaks in
PR China. Hypothesis/Gap Statement. In this study, we describe nosocomial outbreaks caused
by KPC-producing K
