These measures may appear objective, however, they should be interpreted with caution Risk reduction of severe outcomes in vaccinated COVID-19 cases: an analysis of surveillance data from Estonia, Ireland, Luxembourg and Slovakia, January to November 2021 17 Feb 2022 Despite high COVID-19 vaccine coverage in the EU/EEA, there are increasing reports of SARS- CoV-2 infections and hospitalisations in vaccinated individuals. Using surveillance data from
Estonia, Ireland, Luxembourg and Slovakia (January–November 2021), we estimated risk reduction of severe outcomes in vaccinated cases SARS-CoV-2 testing in patients with low COVID-19 suspicion at admission to a tertiary care hospital, Stockholm, Sweden, March to September 2020 17 Feb 2022 Background Universal SARS-CoV-2 testing at hospital admission has been proposed to prevent nosocomial transmission. Aim To investigate SARS-CoV-2 positivity in patients tested with low clinical COVID-19 suspicion at hospital admission Job vacancies at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) 17 Feb 2022 [back to top] Infection Risk factors for and clinical outcomes of ceftazidime-avibactam-resistant carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae nosocomial infections: a single-center retrospective study 19 Feb 2022 Abstract Purpose The emergence of ceftazidime-avibactam (CZA) resistance in carbapenem- resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) has been increasingly reported in recent years. We aimed to identify the risk factors of CZA-resistant CRKP infection and assess clinical outcomes of the patients Impact of the first COVID-19 lockdown in Germany on the rate of acute infections during intensive chemotherapy for Hodgkin lymphoma 19 Feb 2022 Abstract Purpose Evidence on the effect of self-protection via social distancing and wearing face- masks on infections during chemotherapy is currently not available. We asked if the occurrence of acute infections during chemotherapy for advanced-stage Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) decreased when COVID-19 protection measures were in effect A 2-year retrospective analysis of the prognostic value of MqSOFA compared to lactate, NEWS and qSOFA in patients with sepsis 18 Feb 2022 Abstract Purpose Sepsis is a life-threating organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. Being a time-dependent condition, the present study aims to compare a recently established score, i.e., modified quick SOFA (MqSOFA), with other existing tools commonly applied to predict in-hospital mortality High titer of antibody against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein among patients receiving neutralizing antibody cocktail therapy with REGN-COV 18 Feb 2022 Abstract Purpose Casirivimab/imdevimab (REGN-COV), a cocktail of neutralizing antibodies against the receptor-binding domain of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike protein, was shown to be an effective treatment and post-exposure prophylaxis measure for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Duodenal tropism of SARS-CoV-2 and clinical findings in critically ill COVID-19 patients 18 Feb 2022 Abstract Purpose Duodenal involvement in COVID-19 is poorly studied. Aim was to describe clinical and histopathological characteristics of critically ill COVID-19 patients suffering from severe duodenitis that causes a significant bleeding and/or gastrointestinal dysmotility Cycle threshold responses in SARS-COV2 PCR tests depend on the method by which the samples were obtained and require strict global standardization 17 Feb 2022
Abstract Purpose Since 2020, a SARS-COV2 epidemic has been raging worldwide. The cycle of the PCR test in which the virus is detected is called cycle threshold (CT). The method of obtaining the sample is not detailed in any published study and is based on general guidelines of the CDC. Our contention is that the manner in which the sample is obtained has a dramatic effect on CT values The impact of COVID-19 pandemic control on vaccine-preventable invasive bacterial diseases in Piedmont (Italy) 16 Feb 2022 Abstract Purpose The impact of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on other pathogens is largely unknown. We aimed to compare the prevalence of vaccine-preventable invasive bacterial infections before and during the pandemic in Piedmont (Italy). Methods We defined the monthly incidence of S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae and N. meningitides-invasive diseases from January 2010 to June 2021 Sex differences in COVID-19 mortality in the Netherlands 09 Feb 2022 Abstract Introduction Since the first reports of COVID-19 cases, sex-discrepancies have been reported in COVID-19 mortality. We provide a detailed description of these sex differences in relation to age and comorbidities among notified cases as well as in relation to age and sex- specific mortality in the general Dutch population [back to top] Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology - FirstView Article Influence of critically appraising exemption requests from healthcare personnel along a spectrum of influenza vaccine hesitancy 18 Feb 2022 Published online by Cambridge University Press: Association between duration of antimicrobial prophylaxis and postoperative outcomes after lumbar spine surgery 15 Feb 2022 Published online by Cambridge University Press: Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole resistance patterns among Staphylococcus aureus in the United States, 2012–2018 15 Feb 2022 Published online by Cambridge University Press: Epidemiology of extended-spectrum β-lactamase–producing Enterobacterales in five US sites participating in the Emerging Infections Program, 2017 14 Feb 2022 Published online by Cambridge University Press: Acquisition of carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacilli among intensive care unit (ICU) patients with no previous use of carbapenems: Indirect population impact of antimicrobial use 14 Feb 2022 Published online by Cambridge University Press: Healthcare personnel frequently have positive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) antigen tests 5 days or more after diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) 08 Feb 2022 Published online by Cambridge University Press: Increase in the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) attack rate of fully vaccinated healthcare workers with high-risk household exposures

A systematic review and meta-analysis of disease burden of healthcare- associated infections in China: an economic burden perspective from general hospitals 16 Feb 2022 Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a global public health issue. However, the economic burden attributable to HAIs at a national level is unknown in China. The aim of this systematic review was to estimate the direct economic burden caused by HAIs in China. Cupriavidus spp and other waterborne organisms in healthcare water systems across the United Kingdom 15 Feb 2022 Cupriavidus pauculus is a rare clinical pathogen with cases having been linked to contaminated hospital water systems. An outbreak of three cases of C. pauculus and other waterborne organisms was reported in a Glasgow hospital in 2018. Effectiveness of a novel, non-intrusive, continuous-use air decontamination technology to reduce microbial contamination in clinical settings: A multi-centric study 15 Feb 2022 Despite rigorous disinfection and fumigation, healthcare associated infection (HAI) remains a significant concern in health care settings. We have developed a novel airborne-microbicidal technology ”ZeBox” which clears over 99.999% of airborne microbial load under controlled lab conditions [1].
ICU ENVIRONMENTAL SURFACES ARE A RESERVOIR OF FUNGI: SPECIES DISTRIBUTION IN NORTHERN ITALY 15 Feb 2022 Preventing and reducing nosocomial infections is a public health goal. Concern about healthcare-associated fungal infections has increased in recent years, due to the emergence and spread of new pathogens, increasing antifungal resistance and outbreaks in hospital settings. Nationwide surveillance system to evaluate hospital-acquired COVID-19 in Brazilian hospitals 14 Feb 2022 Although the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission within hospitals has been well recognized, there is a paucity of data on its occurrence.
