National surveillance of bacterial and fungal coinfection and secondary infection in COVID-19 patients in England: lessons from the first wave 05 Sep 2021 CONCLUSIONS: Coinfection/secondary bacterial/fungal infections were rare in non-hospitalized and hospitalized persons with COVID-19, varied by ethnicity and age, and were associated with higher mortality. However, the inclusion of non-hospitalized persons with asymptomatic/mild COVID-19 likely underestimated the rate of secondary bacterial/fungal infections Ten-year longitudinal molecular epidemiology study of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species bloodstream infections in Oxfordshire, UK 04 Sep 2021 CONCLUSIONS: Our large genomic study highlights distinct differences in the molecular epidemiology of E. coli and Klebsiella BSIs and suggests that no single specific pathogen genetic factors (e.g. AMR/virulence genes/sequence type) are likely contributing to the increasing incidence of BSI overall, that association with AMR genes in E. coli is a contributor to the increasing number of E Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the surveillance, prevention and control of antimicrobial resistance: a global survey 02 Sep 2021 CONCLUSIONS: This was the first survey to explore the global impact of COVID-19 on AMR among GLASS countries. A key implication of our findings is upsurges in community incidences seemingly leading to increased outbreaks in LTCFs; thus, identifying and shielding residents from key sources of infection are Staphylococcus argenteus transmission among healthy Royal Marines: a molecular epidemiology case-study 01 Sep 2021 CONCLUSIONS: The identification of S. argenteus within a single troop from the total recruit population suggests a common source for transmission, though high number of SNPs were identified, both within-host and within-cluster. The high number of SNPs between some isolates may indicate a common source of diverse isolates or a high level of S. argenteus mutation in carriage.
