What is Asset Tracking? Asset Tracking means tracking of mobile objects by using sensor technologies in a defined space. Such objects can be workpieces in industry or mobile inventory in facility management. It is also possible and very useful for many applications to track people on the same principle. The objects’ movement is displayed in real time on any mo- Asset Tracking uses server based positioning which only bile device. The movement of the objects can be tracked means that the position of the asset is determined on a live and recorded. A distinction is made between zone server. In case of indoor navigation one talks about client- tracking and location tracking. In the first case, the system based positioning, because the positioning is done on determines whether an asset is within a certain zone (see the user’s device (client). The smart phone interprets the Geofencing). With location tracking, the exact position is signals of built-in beacons. This makes also clear that Asset queried. Tracking and indoor navigation are two sides of one coin. While GPS can be used outdoors, a special transmitter/ receiver infrastructure must be set up indoors to achieve sufficient coverage to enable tracking. The main difference between asset tracking and conventional goods receiving systems is that with Asset Tracking not only an object’s position at a certain time can be checked, also the object’s route from A to B and it’s behavior on the way can be re- corded. The generated data can be integrated into any existing CRM or ERP system and/or evaluated using ana- lysis software. Positions can also be displayed on existing Kiosk-Systems.

Why Bluetooth? Favendo’s Asset Tracking System is based on Bluetooth As a rule of thumb, four beacon trackers can technology. Bluetooth is a short-range radio technology cover an area of around 100 square meters. In and with an accuracy of 1-3 meters does not reach the centimeter-accurate precision of the competing UWB practice, however, this value varies depending technology, but is completely sufficient for room-accurate on the required accuracy and the architectural tracking and indoor navigation. In addition, BLE technology is much more cost-effective in terms of purchase and hassle- conditions. free maintenance. Stand-alone beacon trackers require an external power supply. However, it is possible to install the trackers directly into the lighting or sockets. The tags are powered by batteries. Questions you should keep in mind: With Favendo’s Asset Tracking you can track and trace production parts, pallets or machines within your building. Important questions to keep in mind while thinking about an Asset Tracking Solutions are: How precise must the positioning be? / Do I need location tracking or is zone tracking sufficient? Remember that Bluetooth positioning is sufficiently accurate to guide people through buildings. To find a workpiece in a hall, the accuracy is sufficient. You will find what you are looking for when you are in close proximity. A centimeter-precise or even three-dimensional positioning is therefore often simply unnecessary. How often should a position be displayed? In some cases it is sufficient to know that a device is at its specified location, for example fire extinguishers or first aid kits. In such a case, it makes sense to only display the position or trigger an action only EOD or when the asset leaves its original position. How can I attach an Asset Tag? Depending on the further processing of the asset, various options can be considered, from magnetic mounting to fixed installation on material carriers. Is it sufficient for my case of use to track only inside my building or do I also want to track outside with the same system? We can also cover this case. For this purpose, the system is extended by a technological component. (See LoRaWan) LoRaWan (Long Range Wide Area Network) LoRa technology resp. Person Tracking Tracking people in many cases offers great advantages and convenience. In other cases it is simply a matter of security that back-up teams are informed about the current location of single workers. In conjunction with geofencing and zone alerting, on-site person tracking provides a security feature for both the company and visitors. People tracking follows the same sender/receiver princi- ple as regular asset tracking. Persons to be tracked must therefore be equipped with a tag. This sender can for example be handed out in touristic facilities (leisure parks, cruise ships, hotel facilities) in form of a bracelet. By that it is possible for example for parents to constantly track where in the facility their children are. Such “Kids tracker” are for example in use on cruise ships. For shopping malls systems are suitable that automatically send an alert, if the wearer leaves the pre-defined “green area”. For industrial use or smart office/smart building applica- tions, the transmitter can be integrated into the company ID card or visitor badge.

Richard Lemke, Founder of Favendo For the so-called Friend Finder, the data sovereignty lies with the respective person who would like to actively share their position with a friend, colleague or team member. In this case a user can actively release or share his location with other selected users, who in turn can let themselves be navigated to the shared location. Also useful in festival areas, sports venues or other leisure facilities. The location can be shared straight from the app to social networks.

Geofencing Geofencing is a made-up word from geographic and fence. By geofencing for example an immobilizer device can be activated if a car leaves a defined zone. The zone can for example be a construction site, a festival area or a defined zone within a building. Geotargeting/Zone Alerting It is called geotargeting if actions like push notifications are supposed to be triggered not at a certain point but when entering, leaving or staying in defined zones for example at the entrance area of an exhibition. For exam- ple if a festival visitor, who has the corresponding app in- stalled, enters the festival area and with that the defined radio signal radius, a push notification is triggered on his smart phone. This is independent from the point where he goes through the imaginary fence. In a wider sense these two work like positioning systems but with geographical defined border coordinates. Depen- ding on concept, area of deployment and geographical ac- curacy these systems can also work satellite or mobile ra- dio based. Such systems can also be used when searching for persons, for anti-theft protection of moveable assets, cars and facilities, monitoring of felons with electronic tags or compliance with driving routes or ways to school.
