every person is different. every habitat is unique. INDIVIDUAL DESIGNS FOR INDIVIDUAL STYLE This means that there is never just one over-arching look to Habitat design. Our products are formed from many different inspirations brought together each season by our Design Studio, curated to showcase designs for the home which we feel are relevant, inspiring, stylish and, most importantly, individual. Our aim is to create products that are divisive, that get people talking about design – to evoke passion, love-it or hate-it reaction. Some designs you might ‘get’, others you might not, but this is what makes us Habitat. Our style constantly evolves from season to season. You’ll find a range of design ideas within our SS19 collection – references from tribal culture, to the Bauhaus movement, 1980’s pattern to mid-century carpentry– all completely different design principles but reimagined and unified by colour and materials that work alongside each other or make a statement on their own. Our collections are curated for you to stumble across designs that surprise and push you outside of your comfort zone, that encourage you to try something new in your own Habitat, to express yourself more through your own surroundings. And importantly you’ll only find these designs at Habitat, democratically priced and beautifully constructed.
meet our design studio ABOUT “We work very collaboratively within the studio here at Habitat as we’re Kate Butler Matthew Long a small team of just four designing across all areas of interiors. We create practically all of our collection in-house from our London HQ so you won’t find any of our designs available anywhere else. With our Buying Teams we work with over 200 different suppliers from 12 different countries including the UK, Portugal, Vietnam, Thailand and India, releasing two main collections each year, each following a design orientation that we set following own our trend forecasting. Creatively we have the freedom here to adapt our skills to translate many different ideas – one day we’re designing using natural rattan, the next 3D printing and the next hand thrown ceramics. It’s this experimentation and playful attitude towards design which is at the core of our studio and inspires us all to push Martha Coates James Cottingham boundaries to create designs with individuality.” Kate Butler Head of Design Matthew Long Senior Designer Martha Coates Pattern Designer THE DESIGN STUDIO James Cottingham Designer
THE LOOK MID-CENTURY SIMPLICITY The understated simplicity of mid-century design is something that we’re still very much influenced by at Habitat. Designs are stripped back to clean lines, lack fussy ornamentation and mix together organic and geometric forms as well as mixing simple materials. Here, James Cottingham’s new Cornelia collection is characterised by its turned spindle detailing and nods towards its mid-century design inspiration with a slender profile, gently curved edging and a simple matt lacquer that showcases a beautiful wood grain. Coupled with the Julien sofa and Cooper armchair (in mid-century mustard yellow) with sophisticated curves and symmetrical profiles, this is a cool, reworking of ideas from the past that we still think work for how we live now. T H E P AT T E R N SEMI-ABSTRACT Surface & Pattern Designer Martha Coates has created a new series of artwork looking at semi- abstract forms in which the original subject remains recognisable but in a highly stylised way. Here a still life of vases from a recent exhibition at The British Museum was the original subject matter which has been translated by Martha through paper-cut collage, reassembled using different scales and colours, and then re-interpreted by our Indian textile suppliers across a range of rugs and cushions. Mary 170x240 rug £350 Ema circular 200x200cm rug £350 Valerie 60x60cm cushion £65 Jamie 30x60cm cushion £65
T H E D E S I G N S TAT E M E N T CLASSICS RE-IMAGINED Cooper armchair £495 Available in yellow, green velvet and grey velvet From February 2019 Hadley touch floor lamp £120 Re-visiting the Habitat archives has always held a fascination for us, re-imagining ideas or products that we feel are relevant for our interiors today. Cooper is a statement mid-century design that we immediately felt brought a new edge to the collection with a skinny metal frame that easily allows light to flow through the design giving the sense of more space within a room.

Made from crystalline glass, the collection is lead free.
THE LOOK 1980’S Polished chrome, angular glass designs and highly saturated brights introduce a 1980’s influence to this seasons collection. Chrome has taken a bit of a back-seat to warmer tones of copper, rose gold and brass in recent seasons but its cool, sharper look is a refreshing move on and when styled with warm colours, tones of rich walnut or paler oak and ash it can look very elegant and confident. James Cottingham’s Garcia floor lamp was inspired by a Habitat catalogue from the 1980s when city-slicker living was at its peak, as was his ‘Seattle’ chrome and glass collection which channels the power 80’s look. Nelly metallic glass pendant £100 Buttons saffron yellow vase £15 Seattle polished chrome coffee table £350 Garcia polished chrome floor lamp £90 Yuko 30x50cm cushion £60 Karena orange and yellow storage box £35 Ebony gun metal large vase £30
BAUHAUS T H E P AT T E R N BAUHAUS The Bauhaus design movement of the early twentieth century emphasised the importance of symmetry and geometric proportion within pattern. Here Surface and Pattern Designer Martha Coates has translated these principles into new artworks using two different palettes across rugs, cushions and throws. Our first screen printed furniture designs, the pattern is applied by hand directly to the wood by craftsmen in Vietnam. This modern re-interpretation of tribal influence is something we’ve taken further in our textiles and ceramics, opting for a bright colour palette instead of earthier, more rustic tones, and then coupled this with highly textured materials.

Reuben lava stone dining table £995 Mickey synthetic rattan dining chairs £80 Benson 170x240cm tassel rug £300 T H E D E S I G N S TAT E M E N T DINING by Matthew Long Reuben lava stone dining table £995 Handmade in Vietnam, the Reuben dining table is all about its dramatic lava-stone tiled top. We discovered these tiles last year and knew we had to make them central to a design. Laid individually and finished with cement grout, the tiles have a very slight unevenness in height which gives a beautifully textured, hand finished feel and means that each dining table is different in its finish.
DESIGN PROJECT N AT U R A L L I G H T I N G Focusing on spun bamboo and rattan we’ve designed a new range of easy-fit and pendant lights that introduce a softer, more organic vibe to your space. Each piece is hand-made in Vietnam requiring considerable skill and dexterity. The materials allow us to create beautifully curved lightweight structures and the rattan weave allows light to create beautiful patterns of light. We’ve also introduced a new matt black bamboo option designed by James Cottingham that is a beautiful contrast of urban, industrial style being created from a pure, natural material. Carlo sideboard £550 From April 2019 Carlo is a low height sideboard designed to let light reflect from its ribbed facia to give a more lightweight appearance. Raised skinny legs also give the appearance that the design is floating as well as letting more light through into your space. Finished in petrol-blue gloss, the colour was chosen to give a luxe effect when coupled with metallic accents but equally as good with pops of fluoro colour or a background of exposed brickwork or cement. T H E D E S I G N S TAT E M E N T LIGHTWASH Shadow brass leaning LED lamp £160 From February 2019 Designed as a playful piece of light artwork, Shadow has been updated into a tabletop design that creates different forms of ambient light washes against walls and pieces of furniture. THE DESIGN PROJECT S M A L L S PA C E by James Cottingham Juno sofa in yellow velvet £695 From February 2019 The brief here was to create a compact sofa that would work for the smallest of apartments which had awkward access. Arms on sofas are the main design feature that restrict access to some spaces so we’ve created an armless design with a generous seat depth to allow comfortable lounging. The lack of arms also allows more light to flow within the room giving a sense of more space. Cornelia solid oak side table £95 Juno yellow velvet 3 seater sofa £1200 Ladders 50x50cm cushion £60 Yuko 30x50cm cushion £60 Ellora screen printed coffee table £295 Valerie 170x240cm rug £350 Cornelia solid oak large bookcase £295 Bamboo black pendant shade £45 Bamboo pendant shade £45 Bamboo large pendant shade £45

The Keele sofa, designed by Matt Long, introduces a new shape to our upholstery collection with dramatic and elegant ‘wing’ arms and a high back that envelop you for ultimate comfort. Coupled with the Tilda metal and glass coffee and side table we’ve now introduced the Tilda bookcase with its copper-finish frame and glass shelving allows light to flow freely around a room. T H E D E S I G N S TAT E M E N T VERONA BEDROOM by James Cottingham Verona bedroom collection From February 2019 Using wood grain as pattern was an idea we saw at many installations and shows last year. For our take on this we’ve chopped the walnut grain at 45 degree angles to create a precise parquet front to the Verona collection. We’ve kept the rest of the design extremely simple, dispensing with handles for push touch drawers, so as not to detract from the chevron design. Lucia grey metal kingsize bedframe £425 Verona walnut beside table £220 Perie table lamp £65 Lowenna metal gauze pendant £130 Verona walnut tallboy chest of drawers £695 Verona walnut chest of drawers £695 Sorin teardrop brass framed wall mirror £195 Berber 170x240cm rug £450
T H E D E S I G N S TAT E M E N T INGRID by James Cottingham Ingrid dresser £695 From April 2019 Another focus for our Design Studio was to look at furniture designs that can be incorporated into any kind of space – living room, hallway, bedroom, office – without looking out of place. The Ingrid dresser is one example of this with its soft curved, art deco inspired design, re-worked with brass handles and legs and its height making it useful for storage in multiple room setups.
DESIGN PROJECT HOME OFFICE Etta oak desk designed by James Cottingham £895 From February 2019 James Cottingham’s Etta design uses strips of bent timber to give a soft curved profile that wraps around its user. Available in black or oak, the design has a modern ‘Mad Men’ feel about it with ribbed detailing on the three concealed desktop drawers to give an interesting front and minimal footprint on skinny legs in contrast to more traditional ‘banker’ style desks.
